The war between Midland and the Tudor Empire rages on as we watch the next four episodes of Berserk. With each victory, Griffith and his Band of the Hawk receive more respect and adoration. While the King entrusts the Band of the Hawk with one mission after another, others in his court grow suspicious of the group. Guts and Griffith face their greatest challenge yet when Nosferatu Zodd, a seemingly immortal demonic entity, enters the fray on the side of the Tudors. Outmatched in terms of pure strength, the two warriors are only spared when Zodd notices Griffith's Crimson Behelit. He leaves Guts with a grave warning: when Griffith's ambition crumbles, Guts will meet his death. Such a crisis might be approaching faster than anyone realizes, with the Midland nobles conspiring to kill Griffith from the shadows. Episode 257: Berserk (1997)

2024-04-1401:37:07

Despair and destruction follow any podcast that bears the Brand of Sacrifice. Berserk (1997) was the first anime adaptation of Kentarou Miura's legendary work. While numerous changes and omissions were made in order to condense Berserk's first two arcs into a 25-episode season, this anime is still remembered fondly. The story follows Guts, the Black Swordsman, as he seeks revenge against the man who plunged the world into darkness. Guts draws the Snake Lord, one of the Apostles of the God Hand, out of his castle in order to face justice. After retrieving a strange relic from the fallen baron, Guts reflects on the events that brought him to this point. In the past, the mercenary Guts found himself inducted into the Band of the Hawk by the group's charismatic leader, Griffith. The Band of the Hawk rose to even greater prominence as the hundred-year war between Midland and Tudor reached its peak. As Guts settled into his newfound role as a war hero, Griffith resolved to defy fate at any cost. The coast of Egypt is finally in sight, but the battle is just getting started for Jotaro Kujo and his friends. As the first half of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders comes to a close, the group takes a detour to a small island. There, Polnareff gets a lesson in grief and greed from the genie-like Stand Judgment. Only the timely return of an old friend is enough save Polnareff and roast this dangerous new enemy. Next, the group uses a submarine to cross the Red Sea in style. Deep beneath the waves, the High Priestess Stand merges with the submarine and takes the Joe-Bros by surprise. Mind my Gooseberry Bushes! Tonight on Good Movie Podcast? Dan and Jonathan are taking a much deserved trip to Dogville (2003). In this town is the underlying belly of seedy Americana. With a cast full of goodie goodies what happens when Nicole Kidman waltzes in? In a theatrical commentary of America who will be left standing, gnawing at the bones of humanity? Bring your chalk outlines and labeled stage directions, who is to be believed? Will Dan Ryan  finally write the next great American novel? Will Jonathan resist smashing some Precious Moments figurines? The answers are both resoundingly clear, but maybe you should listen and demonstrate the tenants of stoicism?  Rate, Review, Subscribe, and Listen to Us on Podbean/iTunes/Stitcher/Spotify Follow us on Instagram:@animewasnotamistakepodcast Or on Facebook:@animewasnotamistakepod Music Provided by: Cab Calloway, Irving Mills and Clarence Gaskill – “Minnie the Moocher” – RCA Instrumental/Karaoke Version Dave Flesischer – “Let’s All Go to the Lobby”- National Film Registry/Library of Congress Kansas Joe McCoy, Herb Morand– “Why Don’t You Do Right” – Claudia Santoro Instrumental/Karaoke Version
Just as the sun rises and sets, another Sinister Six cycle comes to an end. Today's pick is none other than Gods of Egypt, a goofy, controversial, and extremely forgettable flick from 2016. In a (very) fictionalized version of Ancient Egypt, the god Horus is blinded and usurped by his uncle Set. A young thief named Beck steals back one of Horus's eyes back in hopes of ending Set's tyranny. In the process, Beck's lover Zaya is killed. With his sight partially restored, Horus enlists Beck's help in destroying the source of Set's power. In return, the exiled god will restore Zaya to life. In their journey across Egypt, Beck and Horus are joined by the gods Hathor and Thoth. We should also mention that some of these gods have CGI Saint Seiya armor and bejeweled organs. And Geoffrey Rush gets to fight a giant worm. Is there a moral to this story? Not really. Maybe something about lettuce? We don't know. Just as we promised (and/or threatened), Anime Was (Not) A Mistake is finally heading to a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars, now subtitled Episode IV - A New Hope, is the legendary film that launched a (mostly) beloved franchise. Pursued by the Galactic Empire, Princess Leia sends the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO on a vital mission. They must find the famed Obi-Wan Kenobi and deliver the secret Death Star plans to the Rebel Alliance. The Death Star itself is a monstrous battle station capable of obliterating entire planets. Fated to undertake this quest is the young Luke Skywalker, who goes from a naïve farm boy to a Rebel pilot and a fledgling Jedi Knight. Rounding out the cast is the cynical smuggler Han Solo and his co-pilot Chewbacca. This unlikely band of heroes will have to escape the Death Star, outmaneuver TIE Fighters, and make it back to the Alliance before the rebellion is extinguished. They are opposed by the cold and calculating Grand Moff Tarkin and the mysterious Darth Vader. Vader, the fallen Jedi responsible for destroying the order, still has unfinished business with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Everything leads to one of the most iconic outer-space dogfights in film history as a the Rebels launch their assault. Try to practice proper lightsaber usage, drink plenty of blue milk, and remember to check your motivator for today's exciting installment of Good Movie Podcast! On this episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake we return to our Studio Ghibli roots and raise the curtain on a new stage. That's right, we are heading back to the bathhouse with Spirited Away: Live on Stage. We embark on a young girl's journey to traverse the spirit world with a cast of eclectic characters. With today's episode, 30 installments of Sinister Six have come and gone. To celebrate this special occasion, we'll be taking a look back at some of our favorite terrible movies. After that, fate selects 1990's Dick Tracy as the 30th sinister feature. A passion project for director, producer, and star Warren Beatty, Dick Tracy adapts the classic 1930s comic strip of the same name. In a larger-than-life city, organized crime is running rampant. Boss "Big Boy" Caprice is forcibly bringing other mafia families under his control, intending to run the city's underworld like a villainous corporation. Dick Tracy is hot on Big Boy's trail, but finding charges that will stick is no easy feat. Tracy is joined by his girlfriend Tess Trueheart and an unnamed Kid with a penchant for thieving. Complicating things are the sultry singer Breathless Mahoney and a faceless assassin who keeps to the shadows. Will Dick Tracy be able to outfox Big Boy, save the city, and maybe even get the girl? So, you little Italian devils, you want to know about podcasting? In a cinematic move, Jonathan has decided that he is going to direct Dan's descent further into madness with a mix of pleasure and pain. Many thought it should never happen, but life is fleeting. Tonight, in a Good Movie/Sinister Six New Year's Double Feature are two films, the same story, but vastly different in execution/style.  First on the bill, is a classic with Federico Fellini's sensationalized auto-biographical opus, 8 1/2 (1963). When Guido is at his wits end how will he survive his own multiplicity as director, man, husband, womanizer, and young boy? The women around him are done with these games and a deadline is fast approaching. He can only soft shoe around these issues for so long in this gem of Cinema Italiano. Next, if Dan survives, is the musical adaptation of the same material with Rob Marshall's Nine (2009). Now Jonathan lives for musical theater, and this is one of his favorites, but how when director, actors, production design and more align can this still be considered a Sinister Six pick? What could possibly go wrong? Well, that's show business, kid. You will have to use your own eyes and ears to judge. So, take a seat at the Folies Bergère. Pour yourself a drink. Light a cigarette. Reminisce and Remember, with your sunglasses on in the dead of night.  Rate, Review, Subscribe, and Listen to Us on Podbean/iTunes/Stitcher/Spotify Follow us on Instagram:@animewasnotamistakepodcast Or on Facebook:@animewasnotamistakepod Music Provided by: Cab Calloway, Irving Mills and Clarence Gaskill – “Minnie the Moocher” – RCA Instrumental/Karaoke Version “Live and Learn” – Crush 40 - Main Theme of Sonic: Adventure 2 Kansas Joe McCoy, Herb Morand– “Why Don’t You Do Right” – Claudia Santoro Instrumental/Karaoke Version
