On this episode of Creativity x Culture, we paid our condolences to Nipsey Hussle’s family, as well as celebrate his life by shining a spotlight on the legacy he has left behind for being a philanthropist, entrepreneur and innovator._We also discussed Lil Nas X’s new song, a remix of country music singer Billy Ray Cyrus’ - ‘Old Town Road’, and the fact that it was rejected by the Billboard charts as a country song. This topic lead nicely into our discussion about our third co-host Beyoncé (inside joke lol), who has just signed a new fashion deal with Addidas for her athleisure brand Ivy Park. And if you didn’t know, the Queen Bee is also releasing a docu-series on Netflix about her performance at Coachella 2018, so we discussed that too._Speaking of Coachella, we also covered the fact that Kanye will be bringing his ‘Sunday Service’ to Coachella this year, and how it may just be the right fit for Kanye, especially after some of his shenanigans and infamous tweets from last year._As usual, we always try our best to bring you topics that are trending, but with a creative twist, so CLICK ON THE LINK IN OUR BIO TO LISTEN NOW and don’t forget to RECOMMEND, REVIEW and SHARE!--Nipsey Hussle and Iddris Sandu - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTcvSUEzwAULil Nas X - Old Town Road.... the remix out now! @lilnasx: https://twitter.com/billyraycyrus/status/1114029371168313344?s=12Beyonce Adidas deal - https://twitter.com/BeyLegion/status/1114129438709559297Beyonce Netflix deal - https://variety.com/2019/film/news/beyonce-coachella-documentary-concert-film-teaser-premiere-date-netflix-1203182673/Sunday Service at Coachella - https://coachella.com/sunday-service/Drake welcomes J Hus home - https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv6gyCantTP/?utm_source=ig_web_options_share_sheet---Review, Rate & Share! On this weeks episode of the podcast Vernaire sits down with Kojo Marfo the founder of My Runway Group, a production company which merges the different elements of creative arts to empower young people._Kojo’s story is an extremely fascinating one, because his journey from boarding school to the philanthropist that he is today, was filled with many ups and downs, but he persevered through it all. _Throughout the conversation they discussed how he went from living a privileged life in Ghana, to cleaning toilets in the U.K. From planning to commit to suicide one day, to planning events and eventually owning his own night club at university. And finally what sparked the idea for his amazing organisation My Runway Group and the work that they are doing with young creatives in the U.K._If you are a creative who has struggled with a mental illness or if you are just interested in hearing a truly motivating and empowering story, this is the episode for you.Links:http://www.myrunwaygroup.com/https://www.instagram.com/myrunwaygroup/https://www.instagram.com/kojosteveaustinShow notes:---Review, Rate & Share! On the latest ‘Creativity x Culture’ episode of our show, we discuss the seemingly blurred lines between pop culture and creativity 😳_We give our two pence on the topics that are trending right now, including the Empire actor Jussie Smullet’s pending court case for allegedly filing a false hate crime police report; how WhatsApp and instant messaging has affected the way that we communicate with each other; JayZ and Beyoncé’s epic Brit Awards acceptance video featuring the Duchess of Sussex as Queen Victoria and Kim Kardashian vs fast fashion brands._It is definitely a juicy episode, as we weren’t trying to hold back our opinions on any of the topics that we discussed lol. Amit and Naroop are advertising, portrait and celebrity photographers from London.Amit and Naroop have achieved a great deal in a very short time. In the first stage of their career they took the world of urban music by storm. They are the photographers (and often video directors) of choice for many of the genre’s biggest stars and their client list includes @officialWretch32, @Tiniegram, @TinchyStryder and @AlexandraBurke.Now that they have broadened their horizons, they are still passionate about music but their work has expanded to embrace advertising and publishing (they are official photographers of @guardian @shortlistmagazine), as well as actors, comedians and sportsmen, all interpreted with their characteristic passion and intense visual style.Their personal work also includes being the authors of the book #TurbansandTales, creative directors and photographers of ‘Singh’ - a series of portraits of Sikh men that celebrate the Sikh look of turban and beard and the list goes on.https://www.amitandnaroop.com/Buy the book Turbans and Tales! - https://amzn.to/2HQip1sShow Notes5 mins- Early life and School- Visiting the national portrait gallery, - Dad losing millions and becoming a cab driver- Demonstrating humility, lessons learned- His brother Jay Sean and him being supported by parents & family- Cousins parents invested to start their company- Receiving feedback, being nice to work with- Maintaining and building relationships- ‘Before you build your business, build you’- Being nice, confident- Doing public speaking to get over the fear of running a set25 mins- Starting a shoot with Amit ‘shall we just do this together?- moving into studio- getting into film- Directing music videos Tinchy Stryder, Taio Cruz, Ms Dynamite- Diving in and getting stuck in33 mins- getting more lighting- building studio38 mins- Burning your boats- Feeling the pressure to make your dreams come true"Its amazing what you can achieve when you don’t care who gets the credit"40 mins- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spike-What-are-You-Great/dp/1911498525- Working with Amit- Going through tough times and come through the other end43- Talking about their work, bold, bright, vivid- your work and your style has to feel natural to you, if it doesn't, don’t do it46- Your approach and how you work- The industry needs your approach- Don't expect the make up artist to go the extra mile if you don’t make people feel appreciated- Always make everyone feel good48- Shortlist- Shooting Ricky Gervais53- The Sikh project- Ad agencies don’t look at what you have been commissioned. (This episode originally aired on July 30th 2018)In this episode, we sit down with Yinka Bokinni aka the one and only Yinkdaddy. Yinka is currently a presenter for Capital Xtra and Diet Coke, she is a TEDEx speaker, a blogger and her list of accolades go on and on. At such a young age and with so many achievements under her very fashionable belt, she is definitely a force to be reckoned with. But the best thing about Yinka in my opinion, is the fact that she swings to the beat of her own drum and is unapologetically herself 100% of the time. During our conversation, she reminisced on what it was like growing up with 6 siblings, witnessing the impact of her neighbour Damilola Taylor’s death, studying law at university and how after hearing how much fun a Superdrug DJ was having whilst at work, made her want to become a presenter. Our conversation was filled with laughter, moments of reflection and too many motivational gems to count. With Yinka’s talent, drive and confidence, we are sure that she hasn’t even begun to scratch the surface of her limitless potential. So, if you are an aspiring DJ, presenter or female boss, this episode is definitely for you. Show Notes- Growing up in Peckham, not knowing she was poor- ‘When everyone has nothing, that’s just the norm’- Not ever yearning for money and why insatiable thirst for money can take away your joy- “if I was in your shoes for 12 hours I might throw them off”- Growin up as a middle child and having no excuse, but to be herself. learning from her brothers and sisters mistakes and become the best version of them- Growing up next door to damilola taylor, what the effect of his murder was on her and her area.- Being an avid reader, learning from her dad who- ‘I hope my daughter is like me’- The values of reading, non fiction- 20 mins Studying Law at University, ‘I studied a subject that would allow me to have excuses to not be able to go out” because she was really ill.- Not going to her own graduation- Favourite quote ‘to be spoken about is a bad thing, but not to be spoken about is worse still’- Not being boxed in as a creator, being a multi-hyphenate- Why Life is like a chess board- Losing her mum early in life.. her siblings becoming a mother figure as a unit- Discovering her love for presenting by hearing Superdrug FM while shopping- Loving to talk, craving human connection- Why doing what you love can bring out dedication, working on Rinse FM and working a pub job. Why Rinse FM was and is a launching pad for great new presenters- Rinse hosting a female only stage at Wireless Festival- Why Equality is a trend worth pushing- Why Yinka left Rinse- Why working at Capital Xtra is so much fun- Having ‘listen back’ sessions of Yinkas shows, quality assurance- Preparing for interviews- Not being a ‘celebrity’ and what its like being known and having a fanbase- It takes 10 years to become internet famous and 10 seconds for your fanbase to turn on you- Learning how to DJ and opening for Craig David at a Capital Xtra Event- The difference between playing on Radio and playing Live- Learning how to interview and stopping interviews mid-way if they’re not going right. Getting the best out of people- Why Yinka refuses to let nerves get in her way- Asking for what you want & doing what you need to do while getting what you want- “If you’re not willing to do what you want to do for FREE, why should you get paid for it?”- Being bullied online by an anonymous account by someone she knew in real life- Dealing with people thinking she has more than she has- Writing to her 15 year old self- “When 2 people have the same opportunity, they do not do the same thing with it”- Realising that she doesn’t get happiness from work, but rather from human interaction- Keeping private things private, not doing everything for Instagram and social media- The downsides of posting on instagram to thousands of followers- Wanting to get into Television, ignoring YouTube commentsLinksYinka TedX talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kczac6wWY9Uinstagram https://www.instagram.com/yinkabokinni/Website https://yinkabokinni.com/2018/07/26/2018-so-far/@forthecreatorspodcast on insta@for_thecreators on twitterHosts:Ryan Nile - @journeyofthenileVernaire Bass - @vernairebassListen on iTunes, Spotify and more:linktr.ee/forthecreatorspodcastSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/for-the-creators-podcast.
