Description

We all agree that being prepared for an emergency is important. That's why preparing a "Bug Out Bag"  that will allow you can grab and go can be a lifesaver. So I began posting information here over 6 years ago, and I'm updating that information regularly. I've also gone beyond the traditional products. Because creating "the bag" is just the first step to being prepared, not the final product. We now know we each need to have at least 30 days of essential supplies like food water and medicine. We must be our own first responders.

I cover topics like:
*Products I both use and trust.
*Often forgotten items you need to have in your bag.
*Psychological and Emotional planning for the family
*Planning for Kids and Seniors
*What to do when Plan "A" fails?

This includes a curated list of links from a variety of sources too. I'll be sharing and updating links to sites I buy from and products I use. So we are clear, I have no sponsors, so the opinions,  both good and bad, are my own.

Join me as I begin the 7th year/6th season of productions in an ongoing series of podcasts for you and your family to use and to share with others as you build a community. Is this fun or what?

That's exactly what you'll grasp in this episode as Bill Bateman walks you through the essential steps of first aid and wound care. Bill shares his expertise on the ABCs of emergency response, emphasizing the importance of airway, breathing, and circulation, and guides us on how to tackle bleeding with confidence. Moreover, he highlights the life-saving Stop the Bleed program by the Ashland Fire Department, reminding us that cleaning wounds and seeking medical help is paramount. Bill's advice doesn't stop there; he knows that teaching others and being self-sufficient is vital in a crisis, and he discusses the need for two types of first aid kits—outlining what essentials your "boo-boo kit" should contain. In our second segment, we get into the nitty-gritty of what makes a first aid kit effective, from the practicality of vet wrap to the psychological comfort provided by fun bandages for all ages. Bill's insights into the items your kit should never be without, like gauze pads of various sizes and saline solution, are invaluable. He also navigates us through the importance of professional medical training and consulting healthcare experts for emergencies. By the end of this discussion, you'll not only be motivated to ensure your kit is up to scratch, but you'll also understand why looking at product ratings is crucial for emergency readiness—not just for minor issues. Let's take a look at what's going on due to the weather as a perfect example of why we need to be prepared. (Over 400 Thousand homes without power on the East Coast.) I'll also send up a flare on the EMP question. I know they are a serious issue, but the information is so divisive I am hard-pressed to make a recommendation. Merry Christmas, or Happy Holidays if you prefer, to everyone out there from all of us.My wife and I just got back from a trip to New Orleans. We did all the Touristy things- We took the double-decker bus tour and had a memorable seafood lunch at Dragos in the Hilton. Not only was the lunch great but included some of the BEST gumbo we've ever had. Along with that was the worst excuse for a Po Bo I have eaten at the French market. Gak! We watched a TV show filming on Bourbon Street while having a libation, from the back of a pedicab. Exceptional driver and guide. We had some alligator on a stick. I even managed to decorate my dark slacks with the powered sugar from a plate full of Benigets. Well good for us.  What's the point? Well despite it being in the low 50’s temperature-wise and too cold for gators, and the water lower than normal, we still had a series of great adventures thanks to some great people. When it is said and done, it is all about the people.  Time for a look back at  some of the lessons from last year and some thoughts on getting into  2024(And by the way: That lake I was trying to pronounce is: Cataouatche. Each  month I review all kinds of information. I came acorss some notes I'd made perviously about some items  worth mentioning. I'm  going to be sharing information and a few links to things thatI think  are useful. Medical information is pricesless and I'm including a link to a site I like  quite a bit. It is run by  an actual Doctor and Nurse and has all kind of useful  information to share. The Stie is  Doom and Bloom and I think it is worth a look. Not only does it offer medical information, but articles like What To Barter Off The Grid? I also found an interesting  read on People to Avoid in a Collapsed World at Urban Survival.  That includes s certain crazy Uncles at Holiday dinners.I'll be sharing news on our newly redesigned website and improved class booking  for the coming year, and somequick stocking stuffer suggestons for  gift giving. The topic of Radiation and how to deal with it safely is a  very deep dive. I shared links last week and I'm finalizing the topic here by stepping back and urging you to follow up and get first-hand training and product information. It is too complicated and important to hear secondhand. I'm including some new information on Rsperatiors or Gas Mask to designed to be used in an emergency situation. Now is an excellent time of year to take advantage of Black Friday sales to fill in any holes in your supply cupboard. It also occurred to me that some of my listeners may not be familiar with Thanksgiving, as it is an American Holiday. We have news on Classes, Gift certificates, and a Fruitcake that got passed back and forth for over 12 years. Is it still good? Was it EVER good is the question?A very Happy Holiday season to everyone in our family.Full Face Respirator ExampleIf you wish to subscribe to our newsletter or for questions and comments, email: profprepper@protonmail.comPlease "Follow Us" or Subscribe, and remember that this program may be downloaded and shared for educational purposes. To be able to deal with a problem, especially a scary one, I have found you have to look it in the eye, say its name, and tell it to **** off.  Then you can deal with it. The thought of a bomb, or a "radiation event" is like that.  OK. We've named our fear.Let's begin to identify what steps we can take. I'm sharing resources to dig into. The first two have a wealth of information on useful steps to take and reliable product information. I'm including information about ways to measure radiation and the medication you may encounter if such a scenario were to take place. It is a big topic, so I will also be going back next week. I also want to touch on EMP and RDIF  issues. (For some reason the two seem to be linked.)I also have class information and news on gift certificates.  Thanks to my wife, I've included the address along with my invitation to come visit the range. This week I'm looking at the more advanced aspects of prepping in the medical area. Because it is a serious area of study, the standard disclaimer applies: I'm not a healthcare professional and this is not medical advice. Speak to your healthcare practitioner before making any changes as they can have very serious implications. I'll be sharing some resources for emergency medications,  techniques for emergency treatments, and how to create survival caches. This is intended to be a basic introduction to the topic and will require additional research and effort to use properly on your part to be useful.I'll also have information on classes, and Gift Certificates for the upcoming holiday season.Link to TruePrepper Best Antibiotics for a Prepper EmergencySurvival Caches and Resource Dispersal | TruePrepperWhere There is No Doctor – A Village Health Care Handbook [Werner, 2011] – A great guide for getting through difficult first aid situations with fewer resources.Where There is No Dentist [Dickson, 2010] – A dental guide that breaks down dental first aid in layman’s terms.YouTube link to Prepping Cache VideoIf you wish to subscribe to our newsletter or for questions and comments, email: profprepper@protonmail.comPlease "Follow Us" or Subscribe, and remember that this program may be downloaded and shared for educational purposes.  A new listener from Southeastern Ohio reached out and had some good suggestions to share. His name is Todd and he reminded me that building a plan is the key part of the Bug Out Bag and it can be pretty overwhelming at the start. He had some good ideas to share.  Let's take a look at some of those ideas, and I'll share some tips on how to build your plan. I'm pleased to report that we have good news on the new class, Non-Ballistic Self Defense, we are setting up. It is live on the website. We of course still have our Concealed Carry class happening on October 14th and again on November 11th.  I recommend you register early, while there is still space. Back up Power Planning

Back up Power Planning

2023-09-2427:46

It seems we are seeing more and more reports of emergencies lately. When we do, one of the common issues is the loss of power to the home. There are an increasing number of choices when it comes to choosing a source of backup power. It is a deep subject and the key to success is research and planning. It can be confusing and it doesn't matter if you go Gasoline Generator, Solar backup, or some of the new alternate systems. Your first task is to decide what you are going to keep running. Let's go over the basics.I'll also talk about two really good things that happened this week to brighten my attitude and perhaps can help you with that as well. All that plus new classes are coming together nicely.  Harpers Ice Cream https://www.facebook.com/harpersicecreamcoIf you wish to subscribe to our newsletter or for questions and comments, email: profprepper@protonmail.comPlease "Follow Us" or Subscribe, and remember that this program may be downloaded and shared for educational purposes.
