Description

NOW PLAYING: Descendants, The Janus Descending Sequel: Book One - Inheritance

JANUS DESCENDING is limited series, science fiction/horror audio drama podcast, follows the arrival of two xenoarcheologists on a small world orbiting a binary star. But what starts off as an expedition to survey the planet and the remains of a lost alien civilization, turns into a monstrous game of cat and mouse, as the two scientists are left to face the creatures that killed the planet in the first place. Told from two alternating perspectives, Janus Descending is an experience of crossing timelines, as one character describes the nightmare from end to beginning, and the other, from beginning to the end.

DESCENDANTS is a two-season limited series science-fiction adventure/thriller, and the sequel of Janus Descending. The story begins where Janus Descending left off, at our lost crew's nightmarish homecoming, and follows Peter's older brother, Axel, through the aftermath of the Janus Disaster. Three days after the wreckage of the Adamantine was found, crashed on the barren plains of the Rosseter Moon Colony, the remains of the missing ship were brought back to Aphelion Industries. But something survived the crash, and now, it's beginning to spread. As the Gorgons begin their rampage to consume and multiply, Axel, Captain Rori, and the ARC Juno team must fight their way out of the quarantined facilities, and find a way to stay alive... but in doing so, they just might damn their world...

I love the premise of the story, but these two people are supposed to be scientists alone on a expedition into space and she sounds and acts like she is fourteen, and is completely mentally unstable. She spends half of the episode sounding like she is having a manic interlude and the other half crying and whining about some situation she has gotten herself into. He is terrified of everything and spends half the time leaving messages asking his brother to save them. Neither one has an ounce of common sense or maturity, or or the type of calm demeanour and logical thinking you would need to operate an interstellar scientific expedition. Yes, yes… I know it is a story but I find myself constantly irritated by both of the main characters which is unfortunate as the story could be quite good if the characters were not two doofuses in space! The acting is very good and the story has a great plot despite the bumbling characters.

Peter is hilarious- he is supposed to be an archaeologist but he is terrified of everything and is totally indifferent to the fact that they have just discovered a new, complex alien world… he just wants to hide on the ship. They’ve discovered etchings, statues, jewelry, a pyramid… and he is like… “meh”….

Okay, I totally understand why the aliens want to kill her, because I share their sentiment. ANYTHING to stop the whining.

Just started listening and I like how the story is progressing. For those of you have listened further, do you know if they keep using the crackling static sound effect (I guess it indicates a scene change) throughout the entire podcast?

I know we're supposed to feel bad for her right now but I don't. Like, not at all. Her stupidity and lack of concern for either of their safety is why their mission is doomed and she's where she is. She got what she had coming. And yet she's playing the victim. It's really annoying.

Chel is a fantastic example of where arrogance and too much pride will get you. And her degree of arrogance is astronomical. To be like, "If we don't go down there and discover this lost civilization right now then NOBODY will ever discover it until the end of time." 😐🙄

Great stuff. Loved the acting, sound design and atmosphere this show created. Wish there were a bit more twists along the story front (felt way too similiar to ALIEN/PROMETHEUS tbh) but this was such a pleasure to listen to after hitting a string of bad horror story podcasts. Hope they get to do their second series (haven't checked if it's out yet). Very recommended.

I'm currently listening to episode 4 and I'm hooked. Well actually I was hooked right from episode 1! The voice acting is superb and conveys the raw emotions perfectly. The style of the narrative (alternating accounts, field reports, mission logs, rescue transcripts, etc) is unique and refreshing - something you don't see so often in podramas. Then of course, there's the premise of the story. I got chills listening to Chel's account at the end of episode 1. Truly engaging. Highly recommended for all you scifi/horror/mystery podcast fans out there!
