Description

Proof of Location is a new field at the bleeding edge of technology and is an important part of the Internet of Things, gaming, supply chains, insurance and many other fields. Your host, Kiersten Jowett, is a Proof of Location Specialist in blockchain technology but this podcast isn't just about blockchain technology. Lay of the Land introduces you to specialists in all areas related to proof of location. What is proof of location? Proof of location is like a mirror. Our digital world is mirroring our physical world and what proof of location is trying to do is build a better, more accurate mirror in the digital world to better represent where things are in the real world. It's an exciting and complex field involving computer science, social science, law, finance, cryptography, mechanism design and software engineering. This week’s The Lay of the Land proof-of-location podcast is with Ariel Seidman, CEO and co-founder of Hivemapper. Listen to the podcast to find out what problem Hivemapper is solving, how it got started and how it’s going. Hivemapper’s goal is to provide higher quality maps at an affordable price.  In our conversation, Hivemapper explains their formula for achieving this goal.TL;DRHivemapper plans to go live at the end of 2022. Hivemapper’s outward-facing dash cams (currently on pre-order) will take pictures of local street views.  The dash cam’s location is proven through encrypted GPS and via the Helium hotspot network. Helium’s network uses radio signals to provide internet coverage to IoT devices and record data on the Helium blockchain. For privacy, the dash cam owner’s ID and dash cam location are de-identified.  Anyone can own part of the Hivemapper mapping network by using the dash cam to earn the mapping network’s native token, HONEY, or by purchasing HONEY on a cryptocurrency exchange. HONEY runs on the Solana blockchain. Hivemapper Inc. builds APIs on top of the mapping network and The Hivemapper Foundation (a 501(c) independent of Hivemapper Inc. personnel) oversees the governance (technical decisions, economic decisions, and licensing) of the Hivemapper mapping network.Disclaimer: This podcast and supporting material is not financial advice. You should consider seeking independent legal, financial, and other advice to check how this podcast and text relates to your unique circumstances. Tyler Mulvihill, co-founder of Consensys company Treum, discusses the proof-of-location solutions being built at ConsenSys. ConsenSys, founded in 2014 by Joseph Lubin, is the world's largest pure-play blockchain company on the planet.  Treum brings transparency, traceability and tradability to supply chains, agtech, auctions and non-fungable tokens using the permissionless, ethereum blockchain or a permissioned ethereum instance. Listen as Tyler recounts stories of the World Wildlife Fund's bait to plate trail tracking wild tuna across the world, verifying organic hemp and ensuring the supply chain for personal protective equipment (PPE)  masks during the Covid-19 era.Find out more at:websitehttps://treum.io/https://consensys.net/https://entethalliance.org/Follow and contact Treum at:twitter: @MulvihillTyler@treum_io@Consensys@EntEthAllianceemail: tyler.mulvihill@consensys.nethttps://www.linkedin.com/in/tylermulvihill/https://www.linkedin.com/in/think2win/https://www.linkedin.com/in/dragos-rizescu-9499a987/Support the show

Internet of things (IoT) technology is often about software.  LoRaWan technology is different.  It was invented in 2015 and is definitely a hardware play to begin with, then a software/network technology and maybe, one day, in the not-too-distant-future blockchain will run on top of it too.  Begin unpacking the new, low cost IoT solution, LoraWan (long-range, low-power, wide-area-network) with Laurens Slats of The Things Network.www.thethingsnetwork.org - The Things Network Websitehttps://github.com/thethingsnetwork - The Things Network Github The Things Network Conference https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/conference/Resources require to organize your own The Things Network Conference on tour https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/conference/on-tour/Twitter: @laurensSlatsSupport the show

What does Thailand tapioca and Australian grain have in common? Find out in this fun and engaging interview with the brilliant Emma Weston of Agridigital.Asked why proof of location is important to Agridigital Emma explains; “No financier should finance something if they don’t know where it is.  They should know what they’re financing.  They should know where that asset is and they should be able to track that asset in real time.  That is not available in supply chain at the moment and that’s part of the mission that we have.”  Agridigital are cutting a path in location asset tracking, blockchain and agtech.  Follow them in this week's episode.https://www.agridigital.io/twitter: @emmamwestonIf you are enjoy Lay of the Land please subscribe, rate it and write a nice review to help others find it.  Thank you.Support the show
