For over 40 years, Alvin Elbert has been serving the Newberg community with ARE Manufacturing. Alvin was also instrumental in the creation and development of Tiger Manufacturing, a manufacturing business at Newberg High School that is run by students at NHS. Alvin continues to pour into these students and the community, though most of his work is done behind the scenes. Dr. Phillips was the first black professor at George Fox University and her kids were the first black students to enroll in Newberg’s public schools, back when racism was much more prevalent than today. But despite the opposition and racism she and her family faced, Dr. Phillips decided to respond with love and forgiveness and continues to facilitate reconciliation to this day. Dr. Phillips has also written numerous books and founded Women, Men, Youth of Purpose International.
