As police and other forces of the state continue their crack-down on the impassioned but peaceful protesters currently in the streets of America and the country discusses "reopening", Ted puts this moment in perspective, recalling that the murder of George Floyd is just the latest in a long line of incidents that the black community have had to suffer, as he wonders if the public support we're now seeing for Black Lives Matter will survive past the latest news cycle. Because we're not giving out white participation trophies, folks! This ain't no picnic. And you know what else isn't a picnic? Emotional intimacy and raising a baby! And both of those things are on tap in today's extra-special "The Catch Up" where Ted dials up none other than artist, medium, wife, and mother of his still-new-smelling child, Madalyn Geraldine! Tune in for her passionate and nuanced take on powerful and controversial topics such as the pandemic, why the police should be abolished, white privilege, soul vs ego, and why she doesn't listen to this podcast! Plus, an exclusive special appearance, first time on any podcast by a very special little guest! Ted has your commute to the protest marches covered this week and the language isn't any softer in today's episode as Ted keeps the flames of frustration and disgust burning! For instance: Black Lives Matter is not a pride parade, its a funeral procession. Are you tempted to say "All Lives Matter"? Fucking don't. Then: This whole 'cops' thing isn't working, America. It's a racist cult and it needs to go. And on a lighter note, the Founding Fathers? Neither founding, nor fathers! Then, in "The Catch Up" who better to turn to for answers in these times of strife and upheaval but The World Champion himself Judah Friedlander, who is never scared to say it like it is when it comes to the police and the slow-motion civil war he says we've been in for years. What the fuck is going on? When will this shit fucking end? One thing a pandemic hasn't paused is white cops killing black people in the streets with fucking impunity. Ted goes full explicit content trying to process this disgusting fucking bullshit. Then in "Old Bits" - what's old is sadly not actually old as Ted breaks down his classic bit on that classic comedy staple, police brutality. Then in "The Catch Up" Ted gets possibly the last comedian to make a traditional stand-up special Matt Ruby on the phone to talk holiness in the art of comedy, plant intelligence, and leaving Ted voice mails on mushrooms. Coming to you from the hottest spot of actual hotspots, Lake Ozark, Ted cashes in on 3.5 mil to DJ a 20 minute set for those too brave to acknowledge established viral science or even observe common decency this Memorial Day weekend. Fwah fwah! And then it's OW! My Balls! as Ted goes 'America's Funniest Videos' in a new segment called "How's The Baby?" The answer: great, with feet like a powerful ape! And then in one of the longest distance "The Catch Up"s ever Ted finds comedian and former Astorian Jamie Lissow in the tundras of Alaska recalling their days of rebounds and rebounding classes at the gym! This week we find Ted locked in a psychic judgement stand off with the elderly neighbor woman across the street. Then, Ted reads just enough news to be dangerous, and it seems like Big Brother is back and he's bigger and possibly less brotherly than ever as he urges everyone to go back to work despite the pandemic. Plus, some info from Ted's son's pediatrician on how bad things were but how we can live long and prosper. Then, Ted's special Stay At Home Comedian helped make the COVID BAILOUT fundraiser a huge success! Then - why does every city have to be #STRONG? Maybe some of of those cities are full of human beings experiencing some conflicting emotions of all kinds and perhaps have some ambivalence about the way things are in the face of this pandemic? Well shut about about it! That pussy shit is bad for business! Suck it up and get back to work - STRONG! Then in "The Catch Up" Ted finds comedian Ian Fidance keeping it #STRONG, even in his native Delaware! He may not be on stage lately, but Ted is still slaying audiences in this pandemic - specifically, his infant son! Ted revels in his ability to provoke joyous peals of laughter in his newborn baby bodhisattva - and he's a pretty tough crowd (for a baby)! Then, in the new segment "Life Coach Ted", unaccredited life coach Ted offers free advice on dealing with the mental stress of this current crisis - and it's worth every penny! Last but not least, in a long-awaited "The Catch-Up" Ted finally bags his great white whale, the international man of mystery and his fellow Comedians Coalition creator Russ Meneve, who Ted at last harpoons with the help of a global crisis. Despite the pandemic continuing to keep stand-up comedy illegal, Ted doesn't need to be talked off the ledge - but he's open to being talked on to it! Meanwhile, Ted takes stock of the recent trend of comedians attempting to ply their craft over the internet video platform known as Zoom (not to be confused with the kids show where they ate donuts off of strings), and he finds it wanting! (and did anybody ask Skype how they felt about this turn of events?) Then - Ahoy! Ted recalls with gratitude that one of the many things comedy has given him over the years was a whale watching trip to Baja California that didn't exactly go the way he and Hollis thought it would! Then in "The Catch Up" Ted finds comedian Rojo Perez enjoying his pandemic by doing prison work-outs, grocery shopping with a purpose and feeling ready to vote!   Subscribe to A Little Bit Me then check out more from Ted at www.tedalexandro.com and follow him @Tedalexandro on Twitter and Instagram. Hot off celebrating his first Mother's day married to a mother who isn't his own, Ted appreciates these strange times that have allowed him to be so close to his new family. Then in "New Bits" Ted lets you in on some of his latest comedy, this time about how very excited he and his wife get in their search for a house. Next in "What Are You Watching?" Ted isn't afraid to go meta-textual with the words "white supremacy" as he enjoys the Netflix series "How to Fix a Drug Scandal". And in "The Catch-Up" Ted finds comedian Rob Cantrell in a meditative place, staying in the moment, and contemplating the joy and possibilities of this bizarre time for comedians, all while fully juiced!   Subscribe to A Little Bit Me then check out more from Ted at www.tedalexandro.com and follow him @Tedalexandro on Twitter and Instagram. Ted gets a lucky start to his day as his baby son hits the rare infant excretion trifecta! Then, Ted's wife gives him an unexpected gift - a temporary pass to go for a solo walk around the neighborhood where Ted finds his fellow citizens various kinds of dangerous - especially the mask-less prancing runners! Next, in "Cooking with Ted" Ted goes full tuna casserole as he conjures a caper creation thanks to Gennaro Contaldo as seen in this video: https://youtu.be/8t6ddIzPy0k And then in "The Catch Up" Ted catches comedian, storyteller, and Instagram handyman DC Benny on a corona-era TP run and considering the future of comedy.
This week it's confession time for Ted as he recounts the nail biting story of how he, his wife and his baby risked everything to pick up 13 whole wheat everything bagels - then took a car ride that turned into a commando raid on two oat milk lattes. Next in the triumphant return of "Old Bits" Ted tells the story of previous limits on his movement in the bit known as Mr. Grasci. And finally, in a beautifully honest "The Catch Up" Ted catches Brooke Van Poppelen in the middle of brushing her teeth but that doesn't stop her from opening wide and spitting truth about the ups and downs of taking her comedy career from NY to LA. Big things are happening from within the quarantine zone for Ted - his new special Stay at Home Comedian was glowingly reviewed by none other than the NY Times' comedy columnist Jason Zinoman, who called it "Vital" despite not featuring Ted's usual on-stage "feline gait"! Has this high-level praise changed Ted? Maybe not, but he's open to it! Then, in the triumphant return of "Grading my Marriage" (Pandemic Version) Ted revels the how the use 1930's switchboard operator role play with his wife strengthens their martial bliss and heals any rifts in this time of forced intimacy. The in "The Catch Up" Ted finds Ray Ellin, the huge, self-anointed "Prairie Head", catching up on his Little House on the Prairie in preparation for the return to the land that this pandemic is sure to make necessary. This week finds Ted commanding the kitchen, cooking cuisines of all kinds morning and night - is it passion or insanity? Maybe it's both, but one thing is certain - it is delicious. Next, Ted reminisces about the days of old when he would ride his bike into Manhattan and was allowed to hang it on the wall in his apartment. And then on "The Catch Up": together again for the first time! Ted finally gets to fully catch up with Gina Yashere as she fills him in on her house buying saga which she completed just in time to see the major sitcom she co-created with Chuck Lorre get picked up! This week is all sunshine and rainbows despite the continuing global pandemic as Ted stops to smell the roses of his most recent accomplishment - Stay at Home Comedian, the first Instagram quarantine comedy special just released to the masses for free via his social media. Ted reflects on his growing habit of accidentally making comedy specials, recalling how his second special I Did It was also not initially planned but felt all the sweeter to have been a product of doing it for the love. And speaking of love, in "The Catch Up" Ted finds fellow former teacher and socially conscious comedian Gabe Pacheco making his peace with still living with his ex-fiance during this crisis as well as using the time to focus on helping others through art and activism - including COVID Bail Out NYC, the same organization raising money to get people out of New York City jails who haven't been convicted but can't afford to pay their bail that Ted partnered with on Stay at Home Comedian. The two wise, funny men go deep on what this odd moment can mean for us going forward both personally and as a planet.
As the working classes of this country reckon with the taxman in reverse while trying to get their meager stimulus checks, Ted calls out the stupidity of certainty as he takes on the twin evils of authoritarianism and the word "droplets". Next - are you getting the dreadful feeling like it's Sunday and they're about to make us all go back to school tomorrow? So is Ted! And he don't like it! Then in "What are You Watching?" Ted get his Jew on as he digs into the Netflix series "Unorthodox". And then - check out Ted's new special "Stay At Home Comedian" coming soon for free on Instagram and YouTube in partnership with Covid Bailout NYC. And finally in "The Catch Up" Ted gets ahold of hilarious NY comedian Gary Vider who catches Ted up about finally expecting a baby at the exact time comedy stops being a paying profession! As time loses all meaning in quarantine, Ted discovers that COVID19 could actually be our own collective Clarence the guardian angel showing us how our lives could be different, gifting us with a forced look at a more zen-like existence. Then, returning to his time spent studying jazz piano, Ted recalls learning the way Bach saw his life - as just a guy serving his community - and how it continues to inspire him to not be obsessed with getting as big as possible or to be always trying to reach more and more people - in fact he doesn't even care if you're listening to this right now! And then in probably the most special "The Catch Up" ever, a 3-way phone call with the comedy duo with arguably the biggest impact on Ted's career, his role models in love, forgiveness, and communication - none other than Ted's mom and dad, Pat and Dick Alexandro! Ted goes deep into the wisdom they've gained in their soon-to-be 54 year marriage, from tales of meeting over a bowling score, to a vomitus first date, to doing the deep loving work of encounter groups and back again! This is one "The Catch Up" true Tedheads cannot afford to miss!
In today's episode Ted cherishes the moments of song (or at least sing-talking) that his baby son inspires while he absorbs just the right amount of pandemic news, and works to stay semi-sane by pondering how Lassie or Benji might help us address the dangerous lack of personal protective equipment our country is currently facing! And in "What Are You Watching?" Ted sings the praises of time-spanning star Jason Bateman in Ozark Season 3. Then in "The Catch Up" Ted get comedian and fellow Astorian Greg F Stone to talk pandemic freedom and about the night he did the literally killer crowd work that turned into a viral video!
On today's show, more dispatches from within the quarantine zone of Astoria, Queens as Ted brings you his mostly serious wellness tips - including strapping a baby to your chest, breathing deeply, taking cold showers, and finding a way to channel your preferred ethnic grandma to cook yourself various lasagnas and moussakas (or whatever recipe enters your field of vision)! Then, Ted's comedy special Senior Class of Earth gets some love from the NY Times' comedy columnist Jason Zinoman on Twitter! (available for free here: https://bit.ly/2UYgcWF) Finally in "The Catch Up" Ted catches up with killing-it comedian Joyelle Nicole Johnson just in time to hear how she decided to take a stand-up gig on the world's last cruise (for now!) The level of crazy the world is currently achieving hits home with Ted this week as he finds himself singing Christopher Cross songs to make sense of things and contemplating the opportunity this pandemic might give us to reimagine our entire way of life as we while away the hours. Next, Ted meets his food guru through youtube (that's also his mantra) in the triumphant return of "Cooking with Ted". Follow Ted's spiritual journey towards a modified faux butter chicken under the silent tutelage of an extremely old Indian woman cooking not from a cookbook but from her soul. Then in "The Catch-Up" Kirk Fox greets Ted with the words this segment has been begging to hear since its inception: "How did you get my number?" then proceeds to twinkle his way through his amazing journey as a late-bloomer in comedy. Despite a persistent but improving cough, Ted comes to you once again in his new twice-weekly format from within the hot zone that is New York City, NY - specifically his home in Astoria, Queens where Ted learns to deal with the gamut of emotions that recent events have been evoking (thanks, recent events!). That means making time for the quiet amidst the impulse to be constantly updated with news on the pandemic, replacing scrolling endlessly through the noise with contemplating the infinite within. Easier said than done! The bottom line? It's time to pray (or meditate)! On the positive side, Ted appreciates the moments of joy the shut down has granted him as he gets to be with his wife and newborn son every day at this formative time. Then, this fascinating time of possibility and confusion finds Ted turning a busted pipe in his bathroom into a moment for deep gratitude and genuine emotion with his plumber. Next in "What are you Watching?" Ted fills the void another way - with the strange look into the underground exotic animal trade and internet sensation know as "Tiger King", where he finds a bit of us all on display. Then Ted catches up with longtime friend and fellow quarantined comedian Buddy Fitzpatrick in "The Catch Up" where they discuss a time long in the past where they learned to be in the moment.
