What is normalized deviance? It's likely something that you have witnessed before and after listening, we hope you'll begin to recognize it. As trainees, we are in a unique position to identify normalized deviance. We have not participated in the system long enough for "deviant" behavior to feel normal. That feeling you get when you look around the room and exchange glances with other members of the team, yet no one speaks up? And sometimes, you might even be the only one looking around the room? That is likely the result of normalized deviance. On this episode of the UnsCripted Medicine Podcast, we dive into the topic of normalized deviance and its presence in medicine and medical training.  Hosts Molly Carroll and Andrew Zahn sit down with Dr. Eric Warm, MD to discuss the topic.  For more information, check out this paper by Dr. John Banja, a medical ethicist with additional expertise in normalized deviance.
