Grahame Farmer's music career commenced on the dance floor of renowned London Club, Turnmills of Clerkenwell Road 15 years ago, when a chance meeting with club owner Danny Newman and a ballsy statement along the lines of "your website is shit" resulted in Grahame running and managing all of the Turnmills online presence for its remaining five years in operation.  In this interview we talk frankly about fun times in the glory days of the club, and what Grahame fondly describes as his "Cavernous Wonderland", including Roger Sanchez's parties, reforming the Happy Mondays in Turnmills studios, and the subdued shivery nature of Monday mornings at the office following a weekend of raving at the club. Grahame also shares his self taught strategy for the growth of his business, Data Transmission, which started in Turnmills and has now grown to become an online music platform that extends into all social media channels and that has recently expanding its service portfolio into online radio, a record label and consultancy services for DJ's and professionals in the music industry. He talks openly about the bumpy ride of being in the music business and shares some of the insight behind what it has taken to shape Data Transmission into the credible and well respected music brand that it is today.  Grahame doesn't hold back either, as he recounts what it took to turn around a business that was hemorrhaging money in order to climb out of a cash flow hole and reboot the business into profitability.Helping artists promote themselves is now at the heart of what Grahame does and in the last year he shares how his "Boost" service for DJ's and emerging artist has helped increase bookings, get DJ's signed to labels and provided clarity to artists on their social media strategies. With all that plus running a Traxsource acclaimed record label, an interview with David Guetta at ADE, a packed 2020 calendar and Grahame's favourite track of all time right at the end, makes this an open and fun chat with plenty of insight and laughs from an evolving master of music media.Thank you very much Grahame for taking the time to share all this with me!A bit about me …. This podcast recounts a small piece of Irish history that happened on April 14th 1920 on the streets of Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare, a small town on the west coast of Ireland. The story is told by my father, Michael Hennessy. For a long time we (the Hennessy family) believed the story to be different to the one that you will hear in this podcast. It is thanks to the work done by John Treacy, a historian who dedicated the first part of his career to uncovering the truth behind the folklore of that day, that I am able to share this story today.Patt Hennessy left behind his heavily-pregnant young wife Bridget, and two sons Joe and Mick (both under the age of 5). A few weeks after Patt died my grandfather, Paddy, was born. This is a very sad story because my great grandfather, Patt Hennessy, and two other men died completely unnecessarily that day, at the hands of a soldier who was never brought to justice despite the evidence that was shared at the tribunal afterwards. This podcast has been recorded as my way of paying tribute to my great grandparents and is dedicated to their memory and to the memory of the two other men, John O'Louglin and Thomas O'Leary, who lost their lives so tragically that day.
It's such a privilege and honour to present this podcast today with the Year 5 students (aged 10), and teachers at Ilfracombe's Church of England Junior School.  As a parent of 2 boys under the age of 10, I find the whole conversation about kids online to be incredibly negative and over sensationalised in the media.  In an effort to have a more positive discussion, I approached my son's school and asked them could I do a podcast about the subject with the Year 5 teachers and students. The school not only embraced the idea but added a whole layer of additional creativity and flair to the discussion that I could never have imagined, likened to "opening Pandora's Box" by Catherine Cox, the Head Teacher. In this podcast you will hear from Maggie Foster, an Assistant Head Teacher and Head of Music at the school, whose passion and love of her subject is transforming the lives of the children in the school.  We hear from Maggie and the pupils about how the Church of England School Values of Wisdom, Hope, Community and Dignity, are shaping the children's lives, both on and offline.Even more so, how music is at the heart of everything the school does, and how the Principles of Taiko drumming, which is a Japanese art of drumming, has recently been adopted by the school.  The children share how these Principles can be extended out across all manner of experiences both on and offline.  We also hear about the benefits of drumming and what it's like to experience a Taiko drumming session.  In addition we share fly-on-the-wall discussions in the class rooms between the children and the teachers as they talk about podcasting, digital media, and how to present themselves positively online. There is so much richness to this podcast and whilst I initially went into the school as a concerned, worried parent, I left feeling humbled, uplifted and inspired by what I heard and experienced whilst being at the school.  I would like to extend a massive thank you to the Year 5 teachers who are; James Clatworthy, Kimberley Campbell, Lauren Caller, Phoebe Reed, Will Speed, Rachael Moore and Jo Parsons and a heartfelt thank you to Maggie Foster and Catherine Cox whose total commitment to the subject and the discussion enabled this to happen.  To my incredible Sound Engineer and Producer, Will Flisk, who attended and recorded 10 hours of content in the classrooms and helped bring the podcast to life in the studio with me.But most importantly I would like to say a huge thank you to the wonderful children in Year 5.  You are so very special and you know so much, you guys are truly inspirational and I want to thank you for being so open and free with your conversation, knowledge and kindness.  Together with your teachers, we have turned the conversation about kids online on its head, and you will uplift so many people with your positive messages, insight and voices.Thank you so very much.Fiona xxxAdditional Note;'Drop in the Ocean' is featured in this podcast. Miami based DJ, producer and singer songwriter Kristen Knight shares her long term love and commitment to the music industry.  Fully qualified in music production, from an early stage in her career, she talks about her love of the freedom of being a DJ, her years of experience with reading dance floors and how her sets vary depending on the crowd, venue and international locations she plays at like Blue Marlin, Hi and Pacha in Ibiza. As a woman and mother, she talks about how she juggles and balances being a single mom with living her international dream, in the very male dominated music industry.  And how "Eve", the party she runs in Miami with her partner Roger Sanchez, rotates female talent locally and from around the world, to celebrate and support women in house music.  She opens up about how to leverage the hard times in order to grow as an artist, and how to embrace life in order to be the happiest you can be.  That combined with growing thick skin, groove cruises, yoga, addiction to phones, and waking up in the middle of the night singing into her phone makes this podcast happy, fun, lively and fabulous!  Thank you lovely lady for a fab Frogcast number 9!Find Kristen on Instagram here and on Soundcloud hereA bit about me …. Who started the first DJ Bar in the UK?   Will Flisk did.  Will, together with his business partners, set up Bar Vinyl which was voted one of the UK's Top 10 Best Bars in the 90's.  Located in Camden, Bar Vinyl had quite the reputation and Will openly admits to not remembering most of his time there.  That said with guests like Boy George and Fat Boy Slim together with the MTV crews casually popping in to record music videos and interviews from his bar, he has quite a few funny stories to tell. Come with me as we chat about the launch of Bar Vinyl; how he hosted a tent for 2000 people in Glastonbury whilst sleeping next to Rob Da Bank; his time in Greece where he was frequently called Malakas as a term of endearment; his up and coming new Vinyl releases and how world famous artist Damien Hirst drew him to Ilfracombe in North Devon which has now resulted in him opening his very own studio called Gates Of the West Studio to help new and emerging local talent.Oh and we also cover a bit about me and how my Box of Frogs podcast got its name which is as mad as it sounds! To hear more of Will’s music find him on Soundcloud: @WillFliskWill’s North Devon Studio is at www.gatesofthewest.co.ukA bit about me ….
