Description

Are we really listening?

In our modern time-driven society, we tend to fast-forward through life and find ourselves lacking meaningful conversations.

We have taken the time to create a space to bring back that thing that makes life interesting. We have taken the time to change the perception of vulnerability and let deep conversations flow. We have taken the time to leave small talk aside. Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/smalltalkaside/support

Well, you know... Life really is a Roller Coaster. We go through highs, lows, plateaus... And we still pull through. It's on us what we make of our lows; how we learn from them and cherish them. In this episode, we talk about what each of us do in our "lows", when we experience change, when we face new relationships and when life is just too overwhelming. We also touch upon concepts such as programing and the effects it has on each and everyone of us. Tune in and enjoy our special guests. Have a topic you would like us to discuss? Is the system really teaching the minds of tomorrow properly? In today's episode we discuss our points of view and opinions regarding the educational system in the US [and even in a broader range]. We touch on topics such as standardized testing, educational figures and entities, and teaching methods among others. But we focus mainly on how most of them fail to achieve the main goal: Preparing humans for their personal and work life correctly. Education is such an important factor in a person's life nonetheless, some don't realize the impact it really has on the generations to come. Have a topic you would like us to discuss? In this new and different episode [without any guests], we have a conversation about what they think about traditional families vs. same-sex families. Do they have the same opportunities? Are the children raised differently in these families? How do the children grow up to be in the future? And just a heads up... one of the hosts is playing the devil’s advocate. Listen now and join in the discussion. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/smalltalkaside/support
Tune in with us for the very topic that first started our podcast idea: vulnerability. With our guest Gabriela Quintero, we touch upon why it is so important to be ourselves, and be open about who we are, what we want, what hurts us and what makes us happy. We talk about taking off our masks for the whole world to see us as who we are, and talk about why it’s so important to just be yourself, without trying to be someone else — to finally feel vulnerable and open up to others; that way people will start opening up to you! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/smalltalkaside/support
Faith is more than just trusting what we can’t see. To some it may only be or refer to that which one has towards a religion’s leading entity, but to others it goes even to that which we have for ourselves. No matter the meaning it adopts, we can establish that faith can apply to any context.  In this episode we managed to touch upon different points of view regarding what faith is or what is means to us REGARDLESS of our religious affinities or beliefs.  We agreed that it all comes down to trusting the process; a process that we have to go through in order to get to that place we are meant to arrive at. Does life consist of pursuing happiness? Mmm... not really. In life, if we stop looking and pursuing the happiness we want, we most definitely open the door for it to come naturally. Nonetheless, many mistake what happiness truly represents. To some it may represent financial stability while to others it may be more emotions-driven. But, who are the people who manage to be truly happy? Those who accept their circumstances, learn from them, and reach a state of tranquility that no one can take them out of. Happiness is a very relative concept, but one thing we agreed on was that it is not the result of achieving a goal. It is not the equivalence of satisfaction. Do you agree that happiness is a choice? We go through life trying to figure out who we are. As if that weren't enough, we also tend to try to figure out what everyone else wants us to be... What they *expect* us to be. If we live by them, some might say we're living someone else's perception of us - someone else's life.  Nonetheless, expectations can be good according to this episode's guests. They can serve as a drive to push us towards goals we wouldn't have otherwise considered. But, should we give "expectations" the power we usually do? Or should we just focus on the "now" or the path to get to the place we want to get? Have a topic you would like us to discuss? Do not hesitate to get in contact! Originality… A common word thrown around to describe how unique and different someone or something is. Truth is, everything has already been done, said and thought of, but can you still be an original under these conditions? Our take on that is yes, you can! Being an original doesn’t mean following the crowd or comparing yourself with someone else, it means paving your own path to walk on as you move forward. Go through the experiences of each one of us creative individuals, who aim and strive to be unique in our own little way. We talk about our childhood stories on growing up misunderstood by society, feeling isolated and going through struggles to accept ourselves for being different. We touch upon how originality can be taught and what the difference is between being an original and being successful. A lot of times people relate fame and success to being original, but the reality is that first, you must accept yourself and be comfortable in your own skin and at your own pace. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/smalltalkaside/support
Decisions are a big part of our life; choices have an impact on our present and our future. Decision making in general is a hard thing to do, but are the choices we take based on fear or love? Listen to a deep and thought provoking conversation with us, where we each talk about what fears are holding us back. What we are afraid of, and how we can start making choices based on love rather than feeling paralyzed and feeling safe. We explore how fears are formed, since we are just babies, and touch upon why the word failure has such a bad connotation. Are you currently in a job you don’t love but you need it to pay the rent? Don’t hesitate to tune in, because we also talk about career paths and relationships based on fear. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/smalltalkaside/support
Go into the Rabbit Hole with us while we talk about communications through technology. We invited an awesome friend, Jennifer Galué, who shares her personal experience and gives her perspective on the pros and cons of technology and how it has changed our society. We discuss topics that will have you nodding and agreeing with us, such as how and why social media connects us with the rest of the world but somehow makes us feel extremely isolated! We also touch on topics such as how technology has affected the youth of today and how it has changed people’s roles, their recognition and their importance, merely based on Instagram followers and likes. Technology is sometimes used as a mere facade to hide our feelings, however it's not all that bad. It has helped us to be more productive overall and to expand our horizons.
