Howdy folks, Justice here with the 7th Episode of Texas Whiskey Talk the voice of the Texas Whiskey Experience. This episode is Part #2 of our two part series where the Weave and I visited MKT Distillery in Katy, Texas. In Part #1, we did a walking and talking tour through the distillery. In Part #2, we sit down with Nick and Nici Jessett and they run us through all of their spirits and craft cocktails. As far as spirits go they’ve got gin, vodka, moonshine, white dog and couple of Texas Whiskeys. You’re going to want to try them all, I’m not a gin guy but that gin is highly drinkable. Not a juniper bomb, citrus forward, great summer drink. As far as vodka their Bloody Mary is voted #1 in Katy Texas and then their whiskeys have got that unique element of having rice incorporated into the mash bill. You’re going to want to try it all. -  If you enjoy this episode, join the Texas Whiskey Nation and support the show by following us on Facebook and Instagram @texaswhiskeyexperience and on Twitter @texaswhiskeyexp. This is the 6th episode of Texas Whiskey Talk! In this episode the Weave and I went to Katy, Texas, and linked up with Nick and Nici Jessett, the owners of MKT Distillery. This is another two part series, where we do a walking and talking tour through the distillery and then we have a second episode with a tasting.MKT distillery is named after the Missouri Kansas Texas Railroad whose historic tracks pass within 30 feet of the distillery. What’s unique about this operation is their connection to the rice. Katy, Texas was once the "Rice Capital of the South." MKT distillery honors this history by incorporating rice into its whiskey mash bills.   If you enjoy this episode, join the Texas Whiskey Nation and support the show by following us on Facebook and Instagram @texaswhiskeyexperience and on Twitter @texaswhiskeyexp. This show is Part 2 of our two part series, at Gulf Coast Distillers in Houston, Texas. In Part 1 we explored the distillery with Juilian Geraldo, their Head Distiller. In Part 2, we sit down with Julian in Ben’s Den, Gulf Coast Distillers fantastic tasting room and he walks us through a tasting of the distillery’s entire lineup of Texas Whiskies. The lineup included their white dog, and their three versions of Giant Texas Bourbon. We talk mash bills, proofs, barrel management and barrel selection. Julian also gives us a rundown on the process to become a Certified Texas Whiskey. Julian also gave us some hints on some future products to be released so you definitely want to tune in for that.I got to tell you, when I walked into the tasting I wasn’t real familiar with Giant Texas Bourbon, and frankly throughout the tasting, I was a bit speechless. From the start, the White Dog was on point and the whole line was tasty. Because of the reasonable price point on all their whiskeys, I think I just underestimated what we were about to taste and they just nailed it.  The future is definitely looking bright for Gulf Coast Distillers. So you definitely need to get down to the Ben’s Den tasting room and checkout all of their whiskeys.Support the show
This show is Part 1 of a two part series, where the Weave and I visit Gulf Coast Distillers in Houston, Texas. In this episode, we did a walking and talking type interview with Julian Geraldo, the Head Distiller at Gulf Coast Distillers. Julian walked us all through the distillery and took us cradle to grave through the whole operation. Watch the episode all the way through because Julian provides little Easter eggs of info throughout.Julian ran us through the unique history of Gulf Coast Distillers which is intertwined with coffee and rice industry. He also told us about Dave Pickerell’s involvement in shaping the operation. As you know, Dave Pickerell was the Master Distiller at Maker’s Mark for 14 years before he started his own consulting firm that advised over 100 craft distilleries. He was a legend in the whiskey world and Gulf Coast Distillers was one of his last consults before he passed in November of 2018. These guys are in the process of installing two continuous column stills they purchased from Makers Mark. There is no question Gulf Coast Distillers is the largest distillery in Texas with an operation that will rival MGP some day.Support the show
