Description

Hello and welcome, fellow humans on the journey. My name is Grady Milligan and you're listening to the "To and From Podcast", a record of process and transformation through creative and intentional living. Through this podcast, I want to hold a safe space for thoughts, questions, tears and laughter, and to create one more little stage for collective story. So thank you for listening. I hope that we can grow together in the tension and beauty of who we are and who we are becoming.

We return for part 2 with the always-fantastic VINCENT CHARLOW! If last week’s first chat and the new album clips didn’t get you stoked, I don’t know what will, folks! “Sojourn” is going to be such an immensely rich project and I just can’t be more excited for it. Thank you for listening and for diving deep with us in today’s portion of the interview. Accepting our past and integrating the fullness of our life’s story is not easy (to do or even to discuss), so I hope there will be meaningful nuggets to mine in this chat. Love y’all, thank you like crazy to the supporters of my creative work on patreon.com/gradymilligan and be on the lookout for new episodes with some wonderful friends and creators, COMING SOON!
I sincerely hope y’all enjoy this first segment of a truly wonderful conversation with Vincent Charlow! The upcoming album is ridiculously good (I feel lucky that I’ve gotten to hear the final mixes already) and I hope our two-part chat about change, collaboration, 2020, and the importance of integrating all the parts of our stories can set you up for a fantastic first listen when “Sojourn” drops soon! You’ll also get to hear sneak-peek samples of the album throughout these two episodes, get stoked :) Make sure to follow Vincent Charlow on all your social media platforms and click the “follow” button on Spotify or wherever you stream, you won’t want to miss this release!

Hello to the wonderful listeners! Thank you for joining me for this fantastic episode featuring the amazing Zack Miles. As a singer-songwriter, Zack’s music has a depth and sincerity that is felt from the first note, and I think hearing more of his story (which is what almost this entire first half of our interview focuses on) will give even more weight and context to his two studio albums. Make sure to follow Zack on social media, look for the second episode next week and be streaming the tunes until then! ALSO, please vote and make sure others are registered to vote. Fight to end oppressive systems and make this world safer for all. We can do this, y’all. We really can. Hello, hello! It’s week two with Elijah Cruise, y’all! I’m so glad you’re here. Today’s show features some more goodness, as Elijah and I talk on the points of what live shows will look like for him, the Lost Dreamers Productions project that he and Olivia are creating, and the importance of deep friendship and connection. TRIGGER WARNING: At the end of this episode, we spend some time talking about losing a friend to suicide. If this is not safe or too difficult for you to listen to, that is totally okay. Do what you need to, friends. I’ve missed you, To/From listeners! I hope that you have been safe and that you are healthy since we last met, here in podcast land. The hiatus felt important, in the wake of so much injustice being on display, and I wanted to quiet this space so that folks (including myself) could be listening to, learning from and acting alongside Black voices and justice movements. We’ll talk a little more about that in this episode, a show that is actually a special feed-drop from the Patreon-only podcast “The Freakin’ Radcast”. I hope that you are taking care of those around you, as well as being a part of the change that we so desperately need in this time and in this country. I love you all and there will be lots of To/From goodness in the days to come. Check out the link below if you wish to become a patron and support the creative work that I do (but maybe consider this after donating money and time to organizations and folks that are hurting in these trying times)!https://www.patreon.com/gradymilligan
Hello To/From listeners! Today’s episode features songs and conversation with Knoxville’s own Travis Bigwood! Travis and I wandered into so many different topics including his love of history, his father’s work ethic, stepping into the songwriting and band worlds, boxing, skateboarding and more. One thing that became clear, before and after the mic’s had been turned on, was that Travis cares about the community that art becomes. We spent a lot of time returning to this picture of how the songs or pieces that an artist creates are almost like a town or city that folks might reside in or pass through with fond memories and new perspective. I hope you’ll take the time to subscribe to all of Travis Bigwood and The Lonesome Doves’ pages and social media profiles, and don’t forget to stream the tunes at the Spotify link below:https://open.spotify.com/artist/3Eg88RNB1auS11scjrF3C4?si=SHN_7R6NSXG_kw9E0gV8KwCheck out the Facebook page of Travis Bigwood and The Lonesome Doves and the video for “Track Record” at the links below:https://www.facebook.com/TravisBigwoodandTheLonesomeDoves/https://www.facebook.com/travis.bigwood/videos/10223139890471620/

Hi there, all of you amazing To/From listeners! There’s quite a bit of goodness packed into today’s relatively shorter show, as y’all are in for the wonderful treat of conversation + the beautiful, original music from Nashville’s Emily McMichael! Even though I’ve only known Emily since our first show together in late 2019, I have quickly become a very big fan of both McMichael’s killer songwriting as well as her kind and friendly spirit. Emily produces and writes and performs amazingly atmospheric songs full of authenticity, so do yourselves a favor and follow her on Spotify / Facebook / and Instagram @emilalalalalaBe sure to stream “Unknown Caller” and “Two Week Notice” — as well as all of Emily’s music, links below:Two Week Noticehttps://open.spotify.com/track/2lOHVGrC80KSEeF7G3RfbY?si=0TlL8twdTqKvjFevi3-kDgUnknown Callerhttps://open.spotify.com/track/3CAKszePb3LdUi4COZ7ulO?si=ugSA4mXISq66PCGeZIMMqA

Thank you for joining me for this week’s To/From! You know, sometimes you’re reminded just how grateful you are to have friends that overflow with kindness and a love for what they do. Evie Andrus is one such person, and this episode’s interview was a goofiness-filled reminder of the impact my friend makes in this world. Evie is a world-class fiddler, lives a life of adventure and creative shenanigans and always pursues the passion for music. You can just tell, in any amount of time spent with Evie, that her own joy from music is ready to overflow to any that will listen. I hope you enjoy today’s show and PLEASE do yourself a favor by watching all of Evie’s livestreams on Facebook, she’s bringing a lot of smiles in a time when we can all use them.Check out Evie’s official website, and the site for her band Buffalo Fiasco below:https://evieandrusmusic.com/https://buffalofiasco.com/
Hello there, To/From listeners! I am so glad you’re here to share in the encouraging and creative spirit that my friend Alex Cherry brings to today’s episode. It was a blast listening to stories from Alex’s journey into filmmaking and a career in her industry. You can find two of her favorite creative works in the show notes below — an amazing film and her lovely podcast — so make sure to do so! Also, make sure to stick around to the end of the episode for an update on how the COVID crisis has changed some things for Alex since the recording of our interview. Welcome back, you lovely To/From listeners! Today’s show with Adeem The Artist is intense, encouraging and full of the creative goodness that this talented friend brings to both Knoxville and the country. We cover some heavy ground, regarding our personal journeys within organized religion, so let this be a bit of a content warning if that’s a hard topic for you. Also, this episode features two of Adeem’s songs (the second of which is a special unreleased version of Learning To Drive Again), but you really just need to take a few afternoons and listen to this songwriter’s whole catalogue. Adeem writes with honesty and a skilled mastery of storytelling. Follow my friend on all social media and stream, stream, stream all your local artists’ music! It’s another To/From, y’all! Welcome to today’s episode, featuring Knoxville singer-songwriter, Redd. To hear Redd perform is a delight, as she brings a unique and soulful sound to each song that stays with you. In both her original tunes and covers, Redd makes each note very much her own. Be on the lookout for one of our main topics of discussion from this episode… Redd’s debut album!!! Kelsi's Podcast Takeover

2020-03-1701:24:56

Friends! I’ve been looking forward to this episode for months — Kelsi Walker, singer-songwriter extraordinaire, has taken over To/From this week! I think you’ll really enjoy this conversation that, if I’m honest, had me quite nervous (as Kelsi kept her plans and questions secret from me). Also, stay tuned for another episode later this week featuring (drum roll) the show’s first listener mail excerpts! This is something I want to become a BIG part of this podcast, so please consider joining the conversations online and via the email below.I would love to hear from you, so please always feel free to send thoughts, stories or questions to gradymilligancreative@gmail.comA REMINDER: Please make sure that you are staying safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Love people and make choices that help keep the most vulnerable among us safe.I love you all — look for more content this week and throughout this crisis, as I want to do my part to bring encouragement and meaningful conversation and song to you amidst the difficult season.
Welcome back, all you lovely To/From listeners! I AM WAY TO EXCITED ABOUT THIS EPISODE! Meet my pal, Zack Roskop! Zack has done a little bit of everything… like everything. This kind and excited dude is full of so much passion for such a long list of stuff and, as so many Knoxville folks know, one of the biggest of those passions is the love of beer culture. The Knox Brew Tours business, Zack’s amazing brain child, has already had such an impact on the Knoxville beer scene and beyond. In this conversation, we discuss so many of the individual experiences in Zack’s story but also some of the overarching themes of desiring to try much, as well as the fear of not trying things on the horizon. In both the chat and in knowing my friend, Zack holds a truly contagious fervor for life and what possibilities exist. I love this thought that was reflected upon: that life is more about chasing our authentic self than just about anything else. So many of our dreams and relational growth and the way we can affect community is naturally grown and cultivated in finding who we really are. Life is hard y’all, let the bitter and sweet (as we’ll get into in our beer analogies) mingle together. And sometimes you should just have a beer, eat something you love, take a shower and stop being so hard on yourself. Love you all so much. Thank you for being here. Check out so many things that Zack and the Knox Brew Tours family have going on at their website below: https://www.knoxbrewtours.com/
