Are the following things 🅿️? Bing Bong, Lil B, Gunna, MSTRKRFT GUY, Lil Durk requests, Gentrified Afrobeats? About 7 new songs…only you can decide
Well its the end of 2021 and none of us have a clue about how to feel about anything anymore. Before we wrap up some of our favorite songs and albums of the year, we talk about Mikes "illuminating" Christmas gift that he bought for everyone. We talk about the Kanye vs Drake show, other versuz ideas, and share some request stories from the club. We also do what we do best and talk about some new music and also listen to Rx Nephew which was long overdue. Joe also made a playlist of all the songs we talked about this episode...https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3B6o0mHOe15xFfpPC99GAO?si=lJ1ce8WFQTqQwjixS8f2_w
Tons of new music this week. Lots of new girls raps, Jersey club raps, uptempo raps, dance raps, all the raps. We discuss if uptmepo music hits the same with younger crowds as it does with us. We wonder how singles become popular these days. Mike talks about his impromtu Karol G afterparty and spotify charts. We go over how single chants are the sole factor of appeal in 2 major club songs this year. Joe channels David Guetta and tries to acheive world peace via dance music. Mike gets all Larry David about his Island Boys viral moment. We had to edit a lot because we were laughing so much so have fun with this one!
Peep this history-filled episode with one of Philly’s true DJ vets, SAT-ONE! We start off by catching up after not having seen each other since before covid, and talk about what we did during that time and how it changed us. We get into Old school DJ philosophies VS New School and share tons of stories about the ups and downs of DJing over the past 2 decades. Sat talks about his beginnings as a super young Grafiti artist and DJ, and the balance between being a turntablist and party rocker. Dirty South Joe admits to breaking a code that has been eating at his conscience for years, as we discuss the benefits of letting go of old ways and old beefs. Sat talks about him meeting the rest of his Skratch Mekaniks crew, working closely with Jazzy Jeff, and his non-stop work ethic that has lead to him having his hands in everything. We wrap up talking about our club lives now,how positive we all feel about out jobs, and how grateful we are to do what we do.

No one cared abut Big Daddy Kane VS KRS except Mike, who starts off describing what he enjoyed about the recent Verzuz between the 2 legendary MC's. Joe lets us know about some more cringe-rap thats dropped, as well as some other new songs that came out. We also talk about the appeal of getting rid of laptops while djing, and share some technology nightmares. This was a quick episode we know, but we really just didn't want you to miss us too long.
Whoa we go really deep on this one with our friend Asher Roth! His new album, The Greenhouse Effect Vol 3, is out now. Its a concept album, reminiscent of the great indie boom of the late 90's, where the production was completely crowdsourced via dischord. But more than just discussing the new album, we go deep on mushrooms, psychedelic experiences, ghosts, dreams, sleep and all types of otherworldly shit. We talk about Asher's hip hop jouney beyond "I Love College" and his growth as an independant artist, the rap industry, and the value of creative freedom. We also listen to some of our favorite tracks from the past and discuss some new music that we're feeling... and much more! This is a packed episode that was a lot of fun to record. Check out the new album here: https://open.spotify.com/album/6UPsuwRXqgz3gEREobcC0S?si=Tv2hcP5qSj-OK9uO-gzZKg&dl_branch=1&nd=1

We"re back to talk about why are consistency fell off. We discuss the new Drake album, a few new songs, and some current events that we missed int the alst few week. We're literally just vibing!
As payback for sending him cringe tik tok videos, Joe forces Mike to listen to a genre we can only define as 'cringe rap". We didn't wanna have to do this. We hate ourselves for doing it. But theres a disturbing amount of terrible music thats charting way too high on the itunes rap charts and it needed to be talked about. And we're not talking about the usual complaints that people tend to have about the latest rap trends. We're talking about truly awful rap. Not only are these songs the sonic and emotional equivalent of hearing people cry at a funeral, the sentiments and ideas in these songs go against everything that hip hop represents to us. From all lives matter nonsense to just bad country hip hop hybrids, theres a whole nation consuming horrid rap music, and we're here to vent. (we also have fun and talk about new music and current events)
Are we back or what?!! 3 weeks, 3 episodes! This week we have our first guest since being back from hiatus, Philly and Pittsburgh's own party Rocker, Radio vet, and tour DJ fir Wiz Khalifa.....DJ BONICS! We start off talking shop about clubs, request stories, twitch life, vinyl life, and the working class DJ perspective we all have. Bonics tells us how he got started as a DJ, and how he linked up with Wiz Khalifa. He shares some stories, including getting stuck overseas when COVID first hit, as well as, some of the difficulties one may face being a stoner in certain countries. We talk about the impact Wiz had on lots of todays rappers both aesthetically and sonically. Then the convo gets very "hits blunt" as we go on about social media, the news, and its alarming impact on ourselves and society. We end with Bonics talking about his new opportunities in Vegas in the marijuana industry, and his current fundraiser to help fight homelessness. You can contribute here by hitting the link in his IG bio @djbonics

Look at us! being consistent! After covering some current events, Joe turns in a vintage Dirty South Joe performance as we deep dive into Gucci Mane's A&R skills and discover the long list of new artist that he has been putting on from some of the most random locations throughout the south. We go over a bunch of new tracks in the hip hop, latin and dance music space And we end with current covid convo and the state of nightlife.
After several failed attempts of coming back bigger and better, we were forced to just...comeback. Returning after a long hiatus, Mike lowbeezy, Dirty South Joe, and Jabair are here to talk about DJing and whats poppin in the club. We start off with an impromptu battle of the genre we've dubbed "cubice pop". This has nothing to do with anything. Then we get into what we've been doing since clubs opened back up. We briefly discuss Dababy and Kanye and other dickheads, which leads us to breaking down the unremarkable world of current dude rap and the poor quality of production on so many songs. We talk about the internets influence on club bangers and Gen Z throwbacks. Mike breaks down his set list to demonstrate just how unecessary it is to play modern dude rap in a club. We rap it up hastily and promise to be better with being more consistent.
In our first masked up, socially distanced episode, Cosmo Baker joins us to talk about his crazy election season DJing adventures, including his work with Joy To The Polls, Election Defenders, and how he ended up DJing for the most important block party in the world. But first we start out all over the place talking about some new songs that came out in the last few week. Then we realize that we're actually doing a podcast and officially start the show. Cosmo tells us how it all went down in the weeks leading up to the elections and how everything unfolded in Philadelphia in the days after the election. We get into Covid and other current events. Since we love a good list here, we went down some of the classic uplifting freedom bangers Cosmo played at these events, which somehow leads us down the road of making fun of salty memes that old head rappers post. Then we talk about the Redbull Radio mix series that we're all involved with, HOLLERBOARED REDUX! This episode was really serious and hilarious at the same time and there was a lot of out takes that we may release in a bonus episode, but for now this is more than enough!
For some random reason we start off talking about our favorite songs that we found out about via memes! Mike and Jabair talk about some recent gigs, while Mike updates us on what's been hitting and what's been flopping ,and how tik tok has made Jersey Club easier to play in the club. Then, Mike and Joe start reminiscing on the days as employees at Armand's records and Doc B's influence on record buying. As usual we all run down some new music that we're feeling, including Mike's surrender to emo pop rap. We go over some mid 2000's dancehall classics and wish they were still being made and Mike asks the listeners to help him figure out what riddim the new Ape Drums track reminds me of. We listen to some new UK drill, paticularly from Ivorian Doll and Jabair put us up on some new vibey stuff from DJ moma and others. We wrap it up with some tech talk and how the Cosby show was our first intro to sampling technology.
We're back with more tales from the deejayshpere, starting off with a random discussion of Eminem's early work. Mike talks about his recent Djing experiences and what's been working and what's been flopping. Inspired by Vin Deisel's new song, we explore the rich hisrory of celebrities making music and share some of our "favorites". We have a lot of new music from both the hip hop and dance music worlds. Joe puts us all on new international drill from places you's least expect. And we wrap up talking about the latest Sault project. Another welcome break from the anxiety that is 2020!
Lets face it, it's impossible to keep up with alll the shit that goes on everyday in this hellscape of a year, so forgive us if these arent't the most pressing topics, but hey, maybe a little break from the chaos is needed. We start off with my Mike's triumphant return to DJing for people, the adjustments we're all making, and finally getting to see what songs are working for people and what songs didn't do that much. We fantasize about rolling into a club with a Travis Scott burger, while Mike explores his dancefloor body dysmorphia. Theres some brief discussion about The RBG acronyms other than Ruth Bader Ginsberg, reminiscing on Kony2012, and wondering how real is PS5 prostitution? We stumble upon a new microgenre that has been with us all along while going throught new hits, then end up reviewing the fallout of TIk Tok "bans" and some of the latest "bangers" that have emerged from a platform in which we all agree the world could do without.
We start off light this week with some feel good smilers of years past before we deal with the full gravity and realization that this year blows so hard, get "all political" , and talk about how we someties need to take a break from the insanity that is the internet. We talk briefly about Qanon, the DJ's it has inspired, and the appeal of conspiracy theories in hip hop. All this serious talk does not stop me from playing another ridiculous mash up and talking about funny pranks that can be played with song titles. Ww dip briefly into some new songs and then debate the relevance of the XXL's Freshman class.
IT'S A WILD ONE FOLKS! First we start off with one of Lowbeezy's terrible Mashups. Then we get into the announcement of Logic's retirement and some stand out cuts off his new album. We share some of our zaniest freestlyes that we've heard like Smokepurp and Haiti Babii and then assess the influence of Rick Ross' Teflon Don album after its 10 year anniversary. We go through some new music including Shaq's foray into dubstep, new hip hop and new house joints and Joe plays some of his favorite TrapMetal bangers... Lots of new music in this episode! Recorded on July 27, 2020
REVOLUTIONARY RAP!

REVOLUTIONARY RAP!

2020-07-2301:13:28

After a long hiatus, we're back! After starting off with the worst mash up that no asked for, we go through some of our favorite knowledge-dropping revolutionary jams. First we explore some of the new protest music that's come out in the last couple months, then we switch to some of the most impactful songs we remember from back in the day. This is by no means an all inclusive list, but its our faves! LETS GO! check out our playlist for this week here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0cDBNwPqsQkBosVjsRv0AR
It's episode 30 and our 1 year anniversary "special"! We get together to update each other on how "month 2" of quarantine went. We talk about what live streams were watching., the incredibly aggressive drum and bass (yes, you read right) joe has been obsessed with. We go through some joints off the new El Alfa, Charlie XCX, and talk about the state of Drake, Future, and other rappers who have ruled the universe for the last few years. We also talk a lot of nonsense-entertaining nonsense- but still nonsense, nonetheless. This episode was recorded on May on May 20th.
WHAT'S UP ARDISTS! @lowbeezy, @dsjoedeux and @_jabair_ talk about the new streaming phenomenom, the pros and cons of different platforms and other tech stuff involved. Joe explains OBS technology and its potential. We discuss how we are approaching finding new music without the club and our and how are relationship with music has changed in the last few months. We get into how we're adjusting to the new reality and various bro science theories we've adopted. We play some of our favorite new song, Ghanian Paul bearer anthems, and debate who has the biggest hit right now, Drake or Megan? Then Lowbeezy play some songs that he has no idea why he even downloaded and hilarity ensues.
