Description

My name is Q. Lei. I am a Berlin-Shenzhen based curator and filmmaker. I grew up in Shenzhen, which was only a tiny village adjacent to Hong Kong 40 years ago, but is now known to the world as the “Silicon Valley of China.” This podcast is dedicated to my fascination with tech-art, the ethics of new technologies, documentaries and books on science and society, and my love for digital art.

The piece comes from the scribbles I've collected in my recent rides on the S Bahn in Berlin. Inspired by Patti Smith's M Train, I started to write down my random streams of thoughts as I took the S Bahn through Berlin. The outcome is the experimental text below, where the rhythmic sound of the railways, universalism, the French revolution, a lady with a sunflower, all seemed to find a way to connect with one another in my erratic mind. This audio piece documents a sequence of events in my  life, from an encounter in Shenzhen with a "lady from the West" who  "dreamwalked" into China, to a literary encounter with Patti Smith, to a  reunion with the "lady from the West" in Berlin. A writer friend of mine, Ripu, and I spent a day in Potsdam, initially just to see the exhibition of Picasso's late works at the Barberini, but the day turned into an intellectual adventure of some sort. We talked about Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe's time in New York, the hunger to be an artist, the necessity of a formal art education, and of course, Picasso and his final muse of twenty years, Jacqueline.  This episode in the audio visual format: https://youtu.be/TiA_Y4qZOrg #Berlinstories #artinBerlin #audiovisualjournal #Berlinblog
