Sorry it took so long, Hoodrats! This episode was recorded two months prior, but it took Rachael this long to learn how to use a MacBook Pro to edit this episode together. Oof! Find out where Sarah is moving and how Rachael is making it about her. The Hoodrats continue their discussion on the ins-and-outs of moving every few years and the affects moving has on the family. At the height of this quarantine, the Hoodrats openly discuss how the quarantine affects mental health and what you can do to stay sane-ish and safe from the ‘rona! How will the ‘rona affect Sarah’s move? Will they ever find toilet paper? Did they get arrested on Easter Eve? Did an intruder break into Rachael’s house? Oof! Put your hairties in, hoodies up, and come heal with humor with Hoodies and Hairties! This episode is almost as crazy as the year 2020 has been thus far.
It's the moment we've all been waiting for: The GalaxyCon Richmond episode! Come heal with humor with your Hoodrats here at Hoodies and Hairties! This week the Hoodrats kick-off “What’s Good in the Hood” with Sarah’s account of the Marine Corps Marathon in our nation’s capital cheering on her husband as he ran the race in less than favorable conditions. As Sarah describes how motivating the experience was, Rachael compares it to her Lizzo inspired motivational speech given at her work. Next, the Hoodrats discuss Rachael’s internet impulse buys for “The Time I Tried” and their plans to visit Charlottesville, VA to visit their mentor and host of Creativity in Progress, Nathan Beatty. For “Rachael’s Review,” the Hoodrats review Living with Yourself starring Paul Rudd on Netflix. In the final “Topic of the Week” segment, the realities and fakeness of social media vs real life goes under the microscope and how easy it is to fall into a mindset where you are always comparing. **We apologize for the noisy background in some parts. Many helicopters were flying during this recording. Life near a military base, am I right?**
We have a special guest! Kathryn of High Point, aka Kat, the neighbor! Kat leads “What’s Good in the Hood” and “The Time I Tried” by giving Rachael a lash lift and discusses esthetician school. Sarah continues to bully Rachael (all love people) while the Hoodrats get into an in-depth conversation about the correlation between anxiety and depression to technology and what it would take to go off grid by living off the land in modern society. Also, Rachael gives us some insight as to why she went off the technology grid for an entire year. For Sarah’s “try,” she describes her experience at the Yorktown Fall Festival in Yorktown, Virginia. Meanwhile, Rachael’s “try” tops off Halloween weekend with her review of The Haunting of Hill House that leads to the inception of a new segment titled, “Rachael’s Reviews.” For the “Topic of the Week,” the Hoodrats continue their discussion on anxiety and depression and little things busy women can do to help manage those symptoms that cost little to no money. Finally, the Hoodrats and special guest, Kat, finish up this week’s episode with tales of military wives and the preparation behind the birthday ball celebrations each year. With lines like, “I like my pizza how I like my sex; Mediocre and a lot of sausage,” you won’t want to miss it! When three best friends get together, no topic is off-limits!
Oooooffff!!! From matching tuxedos at the marine corps ball to crazy football moms, the Hoodrats prepare for this year's ball and Coach Hood keeps us up-to-date on football Sunday in "What's Good in the Hood." In "The Time I Tried," an exciting announcement is made while Rachael reviews the 2019 live-action film Aladdin. Meanwhile, Sarah's try takes us in a different direction with a good, old-fashioned Wolf of Wall Street memory Illuminati. Finally, the Hoodrats return to their roots and tackle what it's like to be a parent in the military and discuss how to approach parenting styles and techniques with your partner.
What a week the Hoodrats had this week! From a small cake fire at Rachael's daughter's birthday party to an unexpected loss of a pet, "What's Good in the Hood" dives into the highs and lows of life, including how $0.50 and a cupcake given as a tip could lead to stealing pizzas from a child's birthday party. In "The Time I Tried,' the Hoodrats perform their first on-air"try" with Rachael testing an acupen on Sarah. If that wasn't shocking enough, Rachael closes out the segment with an analysis of the controversial docuseries "Surviving R. Kelly." Last, the motivational topic of the week is Sarah's favorite subject: Fitness! It's close to Rachael's favorite subject: Fitness...pizza in my mouth!
We're back! The Hoodrats explain the reasons for their 2-week hiatus, one of them being the epicness of their Big Summer Blowout. For our topic of the week, the Hoodrats discuss their views on how the military lifestyle puts wives at a higher risk for postpartum depression. Oof!
The Hoodrats get down to business drinking coffee (sorry Gallo Family) and discussing some tries at Busch Gardens, the San Diego County Fair, and dive deep into the hardships of deployments and the stigmas that come along with it.
The Hoodrats tell the tale of their ghost tour capturing photographic evidence of a spirit in Colonial Williamsburg that turned into a rescue rangers mission into the morning hours.
