Description

Mental health isn't just mental illness, it's in everything we do. There are ups and downs, it's beautiful and messy, and at the end of the day, life's a wreck. Thing is, that wreck is what makes us 'US' and isn't that worth celebrating? A layered and rich wreck of emotions, nuance and stories, all culminating in very human experiences. We believe that conversations surrounding mental health deserve to leave the tall shadow of stigma and have their moment in the limelight. Life's a Wreck aims to be a museum of mental health, a parlour to the people, a place to celebrate all things mental, curating the stories of others and examining a world hidden behind stigma with a joyous curiosity and passion for storytelling. Join Kyle Moore around our proverbial campfire to share stories about the world we live in looked at through the lens of mental health. This is Life's a Wreck.

Welcome back to Life's a Wreck (it's been a minute). I've been working on this podcast for the past five months and finally get to share it with all of you. It's been an experimental podcast for me as I look forward to what the future may hold for Life's a Wreck and let me promise you it has been a ton of fun piecing together. The entirety of this episode is inspired by the future. The future of me, of this pod and of the mental health care system in Canada. I was inspired to create this episode while listening to an episode of Malcolm Gladwell's Revisionist History. The episode was on experiments and specifically what magical experiments experts in various fields would do to vastly advance their understanding of their work. I wondered "huh what would this look like for mental health" and the concept for this pod and its new sound was born. In this episode, you'll hear from:The Scientific Director of the Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics (CAMH) Dr. Sean Hill, Canada's first EVER Federal Minister of Mental Health and Addiction The Honourable Dr. Carolyn Bennett, and the Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association's Nova Scotia chapter Karn Nichols. Prominent voices in the mental health space, all coming together to discuss what the future of mental health looks like in Canada. Kick back and relax for a much-anticipated episode of Life's a Wreck.Special thanks to:Willem Paynter (Bass) - @willempaynter IGGabe Mink (Guitar) - @gabeminkfurcoat IGMartin Davidson (Sax)Maya StakaCredits for additional Music:Bobby Shew Quintet, The Loop Jazz Club, Jul 16, 2017 Bobby Shew – trumpet Eric Marienthal – saxophone Matt Harris – piano Tomáš Uhlík – double bass Dennis Mackrel – drumsSupport the show Hosted on Acast. Hey you, sitting there about to listen to a mental health podcast, do you know anything about stress? Not really? You are stressed you just don't get it? Me too. How about regret? All too familiar? Me too. Well, you're in luck because this week on the podcast I'm joined by Dr. Leslie Bosch to explore our relationships with stress and regret. Dr. Bosch is a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach who received her training from the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona where she also earned a Ph.D. in Family Studies and Human Development. She knows a thing or two about a thing or two. Kick back, relax, and let's talk stress and regret.Connect with Dr. Bosch: https://boschintegrativewellness.com/Follow the podcast:@lifesawreckpodcast - IG@lifesawreckpod - Twitter Follow Kyle:@moorzyyy - IG@kmoore0081 - TwitterSupport the show Hosted on Acast. I had a tough time coming up with a name for this episode because of all that Marty and I chatted about. However, I think what strikes me the most is that this man has gone through some really tough times and still continues to seek out life's challenges, face them head-on, and embodies the idea of embracing the wreck. So this truly is simply a lesson in living. Martin Frenette is a fraud investigation, author, father, hockey coach, and role model for men everywhere simply in how he actively chooses to live. While Marty and I were in the Big Brother Canada house we talked about doing this episode so to finally have it come to life is really special. I hope you'll all enjoy listening to the episode as much as I enjoyed putting it together. Kick back, relax, and listen to a few New Brunswick boys (or boys at heart) talk about mental health.Follow the podcast:@lifesawreckpodcast - IG@lifesawreckpod - TwitterFollow Marty on IG :@martyfrenette_bbcan10 Follow Kyle:@moorzyyy - IG@kmoore0081 - TwitterSupport the show Hosted on Acast. WE'RE BAAAAACK BAAAABY! Welcome back to Life's a Wreck everyone! As many of you may know I recently participated in the most recent season of Big Brother Canada. It was an absolutely surreal experience to be a fan of the show and then actually get a chance to participate. In this episode, I break down my mental state leading up to the house, in the house and then after I was evicted. This experience is one I'll be processing for a while so this episode provides a sounding-off point, a benchmark for where I'm at in that process. Much love to all of you and I look forward to sharing more stories with you all. This is just the beginning. What's going on guys and welcome back to Life's a Wreck! Happy New Year and from everyone here at Life's a Wreck we hope it's better than the last two :D This week on the podcast I'm joined by my best friend and roommate Allister Nicholson to simply chat. Too often in the world of mental health, we get caught up in the big picture conversations but it's these kinds of conversations that can make the biggest impact. Showcasing two male best friends talking openly about their lives through the lens of mental health. This is Allister's third time on the pod and this time we went into it with no plan but ended up talking about perfectionism, creativity and finding a direction in life. It's a beautiful conversation, albeit a touch erratic, so kick back, relax and enjoy the first pod of 2022!Follow the podcast:@lifesawreckpodcast - IG@lifesawreckpod - Twitter Follow Kyle:@moorzyyy - IG@kmoore0081 - TwitterSupport the show Hosted on Acast. Happy Holidays to all! From us here at Life's a Wreck. Our gift to you: a conversation about suicide. Not the gift you wanted but the gift all of us need. This week on the podcast I'm joined by Dalhousie University Doctoral Candidate Bryce Anderson to talk about Social Anthropology and one of the biggest baddest words known to modern-day stigma...suicide. This episode is so important to me because I think it's one that my younger self could have used back when I was going through some really tough times. It's an open and casual conversation about suicide and I think all of us can take something from it. Kick back, relax, and let's have a long-overdue conversation about suicide.Follow the podcast:@lifesawreckpodcast - IG@lifesawreckpod - Twitter Follow Kyle:@moorzyyy - IG@kmoore0081 - TwitterSupport the show Hosted on Acast. What's going on guys and welcome back to Life's a Wreck! This week on the podcast we're sitting down with Taylor Lindsay-Noel to talk about self-identity, grieving the loss of yourself, and how mindset can help us achieve more than we ever thought possible. Taylor was paralyzed by a gymnastics accident at 14 and during incredibly formative years of her life had to readjust her sense of self. She's since blossomed into the amazing person she is today and has launched not only a successful podcast (Tea Time with Tay) but also a Luxury Tea Company (Cup of Té). The Life's a Wreck inception podcast. This week on the pod I thought it might be a fun little creative experiment to explore the world of self-talk in a deeper way by literally sitting down and interviewing myself for the pod. I woke up, thought "huh I wonder what it would look like to have a 40-minute conversation with myself?" turned it into a podcast and now you have the pleasure of suffering through it. You're welcome. In all seriousness though, I love the creative platform that the podcast provides me and this one was a lot of fun to think through and put together. If even for a second you reflect on the relationship you have with yourself and your mental state then this podcast was worth it. What's up you beautiful people and welcome back to another episode of Life's a Wreck. This week on the pod I'm stoked to be joined by TEDx Speaker, Mental Health Keynote and Public Speaker, Singer, Songwriter and Goodwill Ambassador to Holt International and HCMC Peace and Development Foundation; Amy Minh Hanh Corey. Amy reached out to me and after hopping on a call I knew we had to get her on the pod. Her experiences with grief, self-harm and self-acceptance are so powerful and she's chosen to share her story in a way the connects with so many people across so many mediums. I love what she's doing and I'm so happy to be able to share what she has to say with all of you. The whole reason I started this podcast was so that I had a creative medium to use when I needed to get some things off my chest. Now, going through a move, I figured it would be a great time to get back to the old Life's a Wreck podcast roots and just talk with you guys for a few. In this episode, I just talk through how being in a new environment both mentally and physically has changed my mental state and how I'm working on establishing stability in a new place. This was a fun one to put together so kick back, relax, and let's just talk for a few. Follow Kyle of IG @moorzyyyFollow the podcast on IG @lifesawreckpodcastSupport the show Hosted on Acast. And we're back with another one, another absolutely lights out episode of Life's a Wreck for the homies. This week on the pod I'm so stoked to be joined by someone that I've been a fan of since early high school and have grown up admiring how they've worked for themselves and blazed their own path. This week, I'm joined by the one and only Jon Kilmer.  Jon is a film, podcast, and music producer. He’s an in-house creative for Mike (formerly Mike Stud) and you can see his debut feature film “The Primrose” on Amazon prime. And we are BACK! Season 5 is off to just an absolute *chefs kiss* start with this one. This week on the podcast I'm joined by one of the most prolific Big Brother Canada players in the show's history, the man they call Ro Show, Rohan Kapoor. In this episode we talk all about isolation, spending time with your thoughts, the concept of trust, and how Rohan's time in the Big Brother House changed his outlook on life. To our dearest listeners, no fluff, this episode is long overdue. What's going on guys? This week on the podcast I'm really stoked to be joined by men's coach, Chris Wilson. I met Chris through the monthly Tethr pods that I participate in and that Chris helps run. His impact on all the men that he works with is obvious and I couldn't wait to get him on the pod. We had a super interesting conversation surrounding some of the more philosophical concepts about the relationship between mind and body, feelings and emotions, and our internal and external life. Chris is the Founder and The Unshakable Man Brotherhood, an online community of conscious men holding space for connection, healing, and growth and in this episode, he explains the unshakable paradox which can help all men open up and live more emotionally fulfilled lives. Welcome back to the podcast guys, this week I'm really excited to be joined by one of Canada's biggest mental health advocates and someone that I've looked up to along my own mental health journey, Michael Landsberg. Michael, the host and producer of TSN's Off The Record, has been an official spokesperson for Bell Let's Talk Day since that initiative was launched. In 2016 Michael launched his own initiative, a charity, called SickNotWeak. SickNotWeak is dedicated to changing the way Canadians see mental illness. www.SickNotWeak.com gives a voice to celebrities and everyday folks to share their struggles and their views on mental health issues. He's a great guy with an impactful story and I'm stoked for you guys to give this one a listen. This episode speaks for itself. This week I'm joined by the amazing Dr. Michael Gervais, one of the world's foremost authorities on the relationship between the mind and high performance.  His clients include the Seattle Seahawks, world-record holders, Olympians, internationally acclaimed music artists, Fortune 50 CEO’s and MVPs from every major sport, just to name a few of course. Not only that, but he is also the host of one of my favourite podcasts, the popular show "Finding Mastery" where he explores the psychology of the world’s most extraordinary thinkers and doers. I'm a really lucky guy. I literally get to sit down and talk about mental health with some of the most interesting people I've ever met. I love every second of it and this week is no exception. Sometimes it can be hard standing out in a crowd, but especially when you're a woman and the crowd in question is a university football locker room. Reina Iizuka is the first woman to ever play men's tackle football in Canada at the university level and her story is one that needs to be heard more. From being called out by teammates to being featured on news outlets like TSN's, Reina's mental landscape has played a massive role in her life, especially over the past four years. In this episode, Reina and I talk about internal and external doubt, dealing with expectations, and also the self-imposed limitations we sometimes set for ourselves to avoid drawing attention away from things we care about. It's a great interview with an even better person, so kick back and relax because, at the end of the day, we're all just a bunch of wrecks.Follow Reina on IG:@_reinaiizuka Follow the podcast on IG:@lifesawreckpodcastFollow Kyle on IG and TikTok: @moorzyyySupport the show Hosted on Acast. This week on the podcast I'm joined by one of the foremost scientists in the world of mental health; Dr. Sean Hill. Dr. Hill is the Director of the Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics, Senior Scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), and a Professor at the University of Toronto (he's pretty smart idk if you got that yet). In this episode, Dr. Hill and I talk all about his work and how it's changing the future of mental health care, and to be honest, at times it sounds like something straight out of a sci-fi flick. Kick back, relax, and take some notes because this week we're talking about everything from artificial intelligence to sleep and even Italian food.Check out Dr. Hill's work:https://www.camh.ca/en/science-and-research/institutes-and-centres/krembil-centre-for-neuroinformaticsFollow the Podcast on Instagram:@lifesawreckpodcastFollow Kyle on Instagram and Tiktok:@moorzyyyFollow Kyle on Twitter:@kmoore0081Support the show Hosted on Acast.
