Four Decades In Scientology

In the 1970s a woman befriended my mother.  She was a scientologist that worked for a few of the Sea Organization church groups:  Guardian's Office/Office Of Special Affairs (today) and Author Services.   Mom really loved her and for the rest of her life, she talked about that friendship.My mother, who had to dumpster dive to feed us, spent every extra moment she had executing the orders coming from these two groups.  From sending my sister and me into a bookstore to buy every L. Ron Hubbard book at Waldenbooks (and storing them all in every extra space we had in our house) to sitting in a make-shift electric shock machine on the State Capital stairs.  Now don't get me wrong, Kathy may have had NOTHING to do with any of these shenanigans but one thing is for sure: she knows about it all. She was my mom's "friend".In 2020 why is Kathy back on my radar?  My mom passed away in 2006.  Now that I think about it no one from scientology stepped up to help us during that time.  That's another story. How is LinkedIn and Kathy Wattman and scientology connected?  This is what I dissect a bit...and why I'm worried about it.  PS: I do not capitalize the word scientology on purpose.@Randy-shoemaker-1Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/sarita88)

Celebrities are an important part of luring people into Scientology and accepting that the information and technology L. Ron Hubbard wrote actually works.   In the first decade of my life in scientology I was regularly shown photos of celebrities from race car drivers to athletes to actors and their testimonials that raved about what scientology did for them.  The magazines the church printed always had a celebrity on the front.  I didn't know that it was all vetted and built to be promotional pieces (I was a child) so I believed every word of it.  I also did not know that this was a strategy L. Ron Hubbard wrote to strategically get people to join.  Celebrities in scientology get special treatment.  They are coddled and fawned over.  Every Sea Org member basically kisses their butts to make them happy.  In hindsight, I SMH when I think about how I helped create this fake world.   In this episode, I share how certain celebrities helped me become even more dedicated to L. A quick explanation of why I have not posted an episode in FOREVER.   I guess I should know by now that life will never be simple or easy!  We had to move TWICE in two months and tried to keep things under control (all smiles people!).  My husband is OK after his truck was totaled in an accident.  The dogs are still alive and Piper hasn't run away pissed at us for putting her comfort in 5th place on the priorities (she was in 1st place in her world).Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/sarita88)

Over time I forgot my biological father and put my money (and soul) on the only male figure in my life that gave me guidance: L. Ron Hubbard.  Wait, he was the only one I was allowed to follow for face the consequences.My mother handed over the responsibility of being my parent to this man.  He influenced every decision I ever made.  Even today I have a hard time processing situations.  It takes me a while to mentally prepare before responding.  I still worry about replying to adhere to a policy or make sure my response isn't going to upset people.  I share how this evolution occurred including personal details and specifics.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/sarita88)

I have no idea what I don't know.  None of us do.  Punishment for a child and adult are the same in Scientology. I explain one of the many methods used to control me, my sister and every member.   How is this OK?  Why is it done?  One thing that has been proven is a child's brain growth follows a specific path as they get age.  If you took a chunk of time out of a child's life (say age 5 until 25) and taught them they were not a child at all but that they were an adult in a small body, kicked them out of their family if they misbehaved, publicly shamed them into conforming, punished them for showing any resistance to the life they were being forced to live including sexual, physical and mental abuse...how would they turn out?  This is how children are "raised" in Scientology.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/sarita88)

I was only 6 or 7 when the cult of Scientology took over my life.  I explain how this happened to me, my little sister and my mom.  I found a handwritten letter my mother wrote that helped fill in the blanks.  We were a happy NORMAL family of 3. As a Sea Org member, I had to keep my pregnancy secret.  I knew what had happened to other women that got pregnant: they were sent away to strange and unknown places to run small and failing Scientology organizations (they don't call them churches).  I was getting sick a lot and that means you are in trouble and sent to the Ethics Officer to "figure out" what you are doing to cause your sickness. That's when I spilled the beans and was immediately branded an unethical human.  Why would I choose to have my baby over "putting in ethics on Planet Earth"?  Who was the woman that trapped me in a room in an attempt to get me to abort my baby?  Where would I go to get help or try to change the ugly future I was expecting to live?  I went to David Miscavige and I share exactly what his response was to me BEGGING for help. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/sarita88)

So you've got extreme pain, maybe a broken arm or leg, fever, terrible headache?  Most parents in the real world would dig in to find out why or what happened FIRST! I discovered my W2 from 1986 when I worked for the Church of Scientology International. My pay was $1202.94.  My hours worked were over 5,000 in that year!  This would be 24 cents-an-hour.  On paper, I was being paid by the C of S as a Sea Organization member having signed a billion-year contract when I was 15 years old.My last year of public education was 1982.  I signed the contract in 1983.  In this podcast, I give you a good idea of what life was like for me working for Scientology in 1986 - I was in big trouble for escaping the International Base in Hemet California and all I wanted to do was GET OUT and I believed I could do this following L.
