This mom is concerned that her 4 year old will look down on feminine things and women in general because of his loud clear dislike of "girl things" now at 4. In this episode we explore what is typical development for a 4 year old and and helpful ways to ensure self advocacy, tolerance for different preferences, an expansion of nuance and perspective as this kiddo gets older. As per usual, it starts with us, the grown ups in his life and requires calm confident leadership and modeling. Sometimes I hear people say that their trauma is what made them strong and I vehemently disagree. Responsive respectful parenting is NOT making weak children or weak adults. This video gives several examples of how, when, and why SURE Parenting creates resilience, persistence, and a problem-solving mentality. Grief is a complicated, multi-variable, every changing process of lots of emotions. There's no wrong or right way to experience grief and it's normal if the holidays create extra sessions of grief for you. You're not broken, you're not alone, you're not expected to be "over it already." I see you, I hear you, I believe you. You're doing better than you think, and you've got this. December 1st brings with it the yearly Santa discussion. Is it lying to your kids? It it manipulation? Is it ruining the magic of Christmas? Does it make your kid hate you and not trust you later? In this episode, I talk about some of the takeaways from Yin On Fire this past weekend. I'll share what it really looks like to hold space for someone's emotions, why we might struggle to do so, and how we can then hold space for ourselves and feel whatever needs to flow through us so we can heal.  JOIN the SURE Family www.sureparenting.com/surefamily Submit your own Topic: https://forms.gle/HE9wsUoNzAJ9Jcas6 Check out the book: S.U.R.E. When people decide to shift to conscious or respectful parenting they often worry about the "big stuff" and wonder if perhaps those are exceptions to the new approach and require a step back into the old punishment paradigm. They question what sort of consequence they should use when they really mean punishment. In this episode I'm able to answer this mom's question, break down consequences vs punishments, help her son repair and learn accountability, social skills, and trust after her son comes home with a startling tale of misadventure.
