I have mixed feelings about the pomp and circumstance surrounding the new year. Don’t get me wrong, I love a cause for celebration and reflection, the opportunity to buy a new planner, a reason to commit to making all of my dreamy dreams come true.  But, the idea that we will be automatically infused with motivation and a path to achievement because the year turns seems inspiring at best and naive at worst.NYTimes articlethis article suggests picking a word instead of a specific resolution.I will remember it is only me that can bring about change. I will practice graceful and fast recovery.I will prioritize long-term gain over short-term comfort. I will create small, attainable goals that build momentum to achieving larger ones. ♡

This is what I am recommending: become 100% conscious of why and how you’re using social media and the technology in your life and learn how to take the reins on your attention. As Cal Newport writes, “Your ability to concentrate is only as strong as your commitment to train it.”  Social Media Stats: source NYTimes: Addicted to Screens? There’s a lot of self-help talk about thinking positive. You can do anything! Just imagine how wonderful you are! Reach for the stars (or the moon, and then you'll apparently land among the stars?)  Of course I understand and appreciate the essence of this advice, and I wouldn't be here unless I thought it was possible for everyone to accomplish what they want. But really, just blindly reaching for the stars isn’t very helpful. Links: Tim Ferris WOOP your life hereVisit my blog!
