Indiana Runner's Colin Altevogt chats with Guerin Catholic coach and friend Andy Cowen following the FlashRock Invitational. Andy shares his thoughts on building numbers and interest throughout the entirety of a program, developing athletes over time and the joy of watching that improvement. The guys reflect on Luke Combs' 14:56 race at Northview, the tight three-team battle in the girls team race and Erin Strzeleck's dominating senior season. Many miscellaneous minutes: Andy's month-long challenges like Chik-Fil-A May, Month Outside May and Spanish September. Also, Andy gives a very tepid reaction to the start of the Jacoby Brissett era in Indy.
Your host Colin Altevogt talks with Indiana high school distance running aficionado Brock Hagerman. Brock lists his 18 (!) title contenders with Colin adding two more girls to watch for. The guys talk about the importance of momentum as well as team-based motivation while discussing early results from August. After 15 years of the state finals on LaVern Gibson, Brock and Colin reflect on lessons and memories from the USA's best course. Also, the guys share some simple high school memories, rave about the importance of inccstats and agree on projecting the improvement curves of well-coached teams. Brock gives his quick packs for state titles, and Colin continues to drive the Suzanna Rigg bandwagons. Miscellaneous minute: meeting of the young dad's club.
Colin Altevogt and Scott Lidskin give a girls preseason outlook including the excitement surrounding Cardinal Ritter, the frontrunning potential of Crown Point, Scott's appreciation of Cathedral's medal chances, Noblesville's 4x8 success translating to the grass and Colin's admiration of Bloomington North. The guys break down the perceived three-team race for the title after declaring a fourth contender in Dwenger. All of that plus Scott's darkhorse (but no guarantee!) state meet pick in the northeast, Colin's pledging of loyalty to Guerin, the deifying of Zionsville coach Suzanne Rigg, an open invitation to the inccstats genius to join the pod and the theoretical impossibility of 100%. Miscellaneous minute: quick college basketball talk.
Colin Altevogt and Scott Lidskin discuss the boys top 25 teams, inccstats.com simulations and participation numbers from 2018. The guys talk about the excitement of Columbus North's youth, the intrigue of Batesville, the optimism surrounding Franklin Central, the remarkable consistency of Valparaiso, our admiration of Fishers and Concordia's ascension to the top of the state. Plus, the miscellaneous minute: advantages of Indy living against Chicago.
