I get asked 'how should I talk to my daughter about switching to reusables' and so thought I'd share my little nugget of wisdom (?) on how to broach the subject with our young women in this pretty short podcast epLet's face it, teens won't do anything we tell them is good for them, and chances are that they won't try out anything 'too weird' that their mates may judge them on, we have to tread carefully It's all in the delivery babe, we can only lead that horse to water and only hope that it drinks. In this episode I share how I navigated it with my now 16 year old, I also talk about the other conversations it's vital we have with our young women, alongside period chat To be informed is to be armed....or something like thatI hope you enjoy the episode and please do connect with me if you have any questions or want to carry on the conversation
In this episode, I am answering some of the most common questions I get asked about using reusable period pads. Questions such as; How many will I need? What do I do when I'm out and about? Do they leak? Do they smell? What are they made from? and many more.If you're considering switching from disposable pads to reusable, and fancy reducing your landfill contribution by up to 22 menstrual products a month *gasp* but have questions, then listen in to this episode babe. And if I don't answer your question here, come over to the socials and ask me it there @wearemoutpads All the love Lauren x

Overwhelm seems to be at epidemic proportions right now, more and more of us are struggling with burnout, I regularly have times of huge burnout that leaves me feeling totally wrung out with insatiable exhaustion, life shouldn't feel this hard right? In this episode, I am joined by Suzy Reading aka @suszyreading. Suzy is a mother of two, an author of 3 *books, a Chartered Psychologist and Yoga Teacher. She specialises in self-care, helping people manage their stress, emotions, and energetic bank balance. It was her life experience of motherhood colliding with the terminal illness of her father that sparked her passion for self-care which she now teaches to her clients, young and old, to cope during periods of stress, loss, and change and to boost their resilience in the face of future challenges. We chatted about how to recognise when burnout strikes, why guilt need not be applied (even when you feel wracked with it) and Suzy shares some really simple, really effective tools to help manage your symptoms when in burnout. Suzy is doing such fantastic work in helping others live a more fulfilled and chilled life, regardless of the life they live and shes also a thoroughly lovely lady to chat toEnjoy ❤️*Suzy's books are;Little Book of Self-Care - 30 Practises to Soothe the Mind, Body and SoulThe Self-Care Revolution - Smart Habits and Simple Practises to Help You FlourishStand Tall Like a Mountain - Mindfulness and Self-Care for Children and Adults
If you're too young to be worrying out the menopause then this episode is still for you (and for you to share with your menopause friends/family). Our education around periods is pretty dire and our education around menopause even more so and so we want to start open and honest conversations about what happens when your peri-menopause kicks in, how to navigate the GP appointment where they don't investigate and instead offer a blanket prescription of anti-depressants, and we want to offer you a virtual hug with a side note of 'you're not loosing your mind, it's just your hormones'. In this episode I have a casual chat with Nicola Lewis aka @thisgirlcanorganise about her experience so far with the peri-menopause. Nicola is a mother, an author and a professional organiser who speaks candidly and openly about how she's struggled to get a diagnose, the effect this stage of her life has had on her relationship, and kids, and where she finally found the *support that she so desperately needed.*spoiler, her support came in the shape of her 'queen' Dr. Louise Newson aka @menopause_doctor Please keep the conversation going, shine a light and remove shame from an experience we will all, at one point or another have to go through.
Did you know that everyone can suffer issues problems with their pelvic floor, not just women who have experienced vaginal birth!! And did you know that none of us have to suffer from bladder weakness? Or that we can repair any damage done to our pelvic floor whether it was caused by impactful exercise, childbirth or general life?I did not know this, but I've learned so much incredibly informative and useful information in this episode when I chatted with Anya Hayes aka @mothers.wellness.toolkitAnya talks about how we all have a pelvic floor (men included), what the pelvic floors purpose it, how we can prevent causing damage to this area, and how to go about repairing it when it has suffered trauma. Please keep this conversation going with your friends and family and if you want to chat more, come and find me or Anya over on the socials.Instagram @wearemoutpadsFacebook @wearemoutpads
A short but loaded impromptu episode from me this morning. I saw a post on Insta that has inspired me to jump on a record my experience with motherhood. The post was shared by Jen aka @ettaloves and she talked about how she's struggled with the transition from woman to mother and the impact it had on her and her relationship. Her post took me back 15 years when I was at my lowest point and couldn't see any other way to cope with parenting other than to leave my then-husband, this backfired. On saying I was leaving my husband it became very clear that that would mean I would have to leave my home, resulting and ended in me co-parenting for half the week each.In this episode, I share openly and honestly what drove me to leave, why I will forever feel sad for choosing that option rather than find another way and why it's so important that we share our honest parenting journey so that we can find other ways.I hope this episode is like a warm, understanding, non-judging hugAll the love to you mama x
In this episode of the podcast, I'm chatting with Le'Nise Brothers aka @eatlovemove about how our nutrition can be a cure or a curse for our cycles. Le'Nise is a registered Nutritional Therapist and women's hormone & menstrual health coach, she works with women who struggle with sugar cravings, hormonal bloating & acne and low energy and help them understand their menstrual cycle."The intensive work I do with my clients helps them get control over hormonal issues such as PMS, fibroids, PCOS, endometriosis, heavy, missing, irregular & painful periods, and perimenopause.I love seeing my clients regain their spark, improve their health and boost their energy." - Eat Love MoveDuring our chat, Le'Nise talked about how our endocrine system works, and all the things that could disrupt it, causing heavier and more painful periods. We also talked about the cultural rise in us eating sugar and how this is affecting our periods. Our periods are one of the vital signs of our overall health and we can support them to make them healthier. Please leave any comments or questions you have about this episode in the comments or drop us an email, we'd love to carry on the conversation. Thanks for listening, sharing and supporting
Wowsers what an episode we have instore for you. Today we had the huge pleasure of talking to Lisa Williams, one-third of @thehotbedcollective.Lisa along with Anniki Sommerville and Cherry Healey host a fantastic sex-positive podcast and have just recently released their first book 'More Orgasms Please - Why Female Pleasure Matters'In this episode, Lisa and I chatted about why as women, our pleasure should be our priority. We talked about how sex isn't a one size fits all situation, why porn can be good, and a lesson in how sex toys for both single-sex and partnered sex can be an added bonus, we even talk masturbation, how it could *lower consumerism and help us all feel a little less lost.Lisa discussed the importance of why we need to talk to our kids about sex (boys and girls), the book fully acknowledges all gender identities, sexual abuse and the 5% of women who can't reach orgasm - there are also some fab resources to support all. *an equation I figured out, it'll make more sense when you listen 😜Lisa is a huge supporter of @eveappeal the only UK charity focused on raising awareness & funding for research into the prevention of the 5 gynae cancers (yes there are 5!!) We even talked about our Wear 'em Out period pads, Lisa is already a reusable convert and is fully on board celebrating menstrual cups and reusable pads - what a girl! This is a conversation we all need to be having, the patriarchy has done a bit of a number on us women, sexual pleasure isn't just for men. Please feel free to join the conversation, you can leave a comment, message me over on the socials @wearemoutpads or email me hello@wearemout.co.ukThanks for listening - Lauren x
In this episode, I talked with Jade aka @notbuyingnew, we chatted all things style, the fun to be had in second-hand shopping, upcycling what we have and how to cut our addiction to fast fashion and mass consumption.  Jade was a self-confessed fast fashion addict in the hopes that shopping would bring all the happy. After dipping her toe into the fast fashion story and our need to consume, whilst digging deeper into this topic Jade realised the harm that fast fashion was doing, not just to us as consumers but to the people that were making the clothes, and the environment.Consumerism is a real psychological issue and I myself struggle with the idea of no longer getting the hit from buying new, my chat with Jade has totally made me rethink my views on how I shop and has Jade has even made a promise to hold my hand on a virgin charity shop trip, I'm EXCITED.I also talk about the challenge of having a teenage girl who is big into fast fashion, as are all her peers and how I can navigate that situation as I find it a huge contradiction to what I'm trying to move towards. We talked around the stigma that is attached to charity shops and the stories that we carry around linked to wearing second-hand clothes, I'm keen to challenge my 'stories' and follow Jade's lead.I'd never heard of 'greenwashing' Jade has begun my education on it and it was fairly uncomfortable listening and made me view H&M in a new light. If you want to hear more about how to take 5 items of recycled clothing and turn it into multiple outfits and that all still manage to look pretty stylish then you're in the right place with this podcast and I highly recommend giving Jade a follow. "Research has shown that increasing the active life of all clothing by nine months would reduce the annual carbon, water,  and waste footprints of UK clothing by 20-30% each, and cut resource costs by £5 billion.  These are the largest potential savings of all the actions considered in the research." - Water and Resources Action Programme (Waste and Resources Action Plan - WRAP )Instagram; @notbuyingnewFollow me on the socials; Instagram; @wearemoutpadsFacebook; @wearemoutpadsSign up for 10% off your first order with us; www.wearemout.co.uk
Today I had the joy of chatting with Sally aka Women With Sparkle.Sally is a holistic nutritionist and a life coach, a 'sparkle coach' if you will, and she's helping women who have lost their energy, confidence, and passion for life. Hands up if you can relate * handheld firmly in the air*. She helps women to get back to themselves and find their all-round sparkle.I really love the ‘sparkle’ element as it brings that lightness to something that we could all get really bogged down in - the topic of how mental stress can cause physical illness.Life's tough with women right now and when I saw Sally talking at Suzy Ashworth's event Limitless Live event - I thought she was amazing and had my eye on her for a podcast episode.Sally brings tricky conversations and makes them light, fun, energetic and a little easier to digest.I want to be part of that crowd.Sally shares her journey back to health after having had a tumor removed, she talks about the connection she made with her mental stress and poor lifestyle choices, having been a huge contributor to her physical health, and how she changed things up for a better life. We talk about how we need to take some personal responsibility in our health and ask if we're not applying chemicals to our faces, then why are we still applying them to our vaginas via disposable sanitary protection - a valid question which we give a good answer. The conversation also covers heavy periods and why we're not getting to the root cause of the problem (we're not meant to have heavy periods) instead, choosing to stop the symptoms without 'fixing' the problem. It's an interesting, varied and important chat, a chat that will benefit it us from having heard it.Please come and follow us on the socials;Insta @wearemoutpads Facebook @wearemoutpads
