Description

How many terrible secrets can one family hold? In early 2019, Mary and Katie published a memoir named Broken Nek, detailing their life of abuse and trauma from Ken, Katie's father/Mary's brother. After speaking to crowds across the midwest, this aunt and niece duo realized that their story is far from over and both now strive for a life of authenticity. In this podcast, Mary and Katie sort out their family's history and their ongoing struggles and triumphs with mental health. All the issues that were once swept under the rug are now coming to light through these conversations about family, truth, and healing.

Join Katie and Mary in a fascinating discussion with Linda Sheehan, LicensedClinical Social Worker with a specialty in health challenges and Certified Instructor in Empowered Relief Pain Management Course, Stanford University. Linda shares her research into the brain’s response to chronic pain and disease in the human body. Our reactions to lingering discomfort, damage, injury, etc. create neural pathways in our brains that can become default paths if frequently used. Current information is now saying that it is possible to rewire these pathways, thereby alleviating pain without the need for over-medicating or surgical intervention. Listen to Linda share how this can be done and be prepared to change your view about the brain/body connection.“We’ve got it backwards: It’s not that the body is there to support the brain; the brain largely exists to cater to our bodily needs, no matter how dimly we perceive them.” - Scott Anderson, ‘Psychology From the Neck Down’, Psychology Today, Jan/Feb 2022Contact Linda through her website at https://www.lindasheehan.net/She accepts all major insurance including Medicare.Support the showSupport the showWebsite: https://thealbrechtauthors.com
