Mark T. Episode 108 – Remembering Bob GreenwoodOn Thursday, September 9th, the automotive service industry lost one of its most visionary business development trainers when Bob Greenwood passed away suddenly at the young age of 71. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bob’s family at this most difficult time, and we hope they find comfort in the outpouring of sympathy from the many in our industry who were mentored and had their lives touched by Bob’s wit and wisdom.  We interviewed Bob on October 21, 2020 where, in the midst of a pandemic, he shared his vision for elevating the automotive industry with a new way of looking at the business of automotive service and repair. Bob presented his new Business Development Class in partnership with the Automotive Service Association, and it was extremely popular. In fact, another 2021 Level 1 class was being promoted to launch in September when we received the tragic news of Bob’s passing.In memory of Bob and the good work he did, here is a rebroadcast of that recorded 2020 interview wherein Bob shares his vision for a better tomorrow. He was a good friend and mentor to many and did much to help our ASA members grow their business and achieve success. He was, simply, a good man. He will be deeply missed.Bob Greenwood, AMAM, was president and CEO of Automotive Aftermarket E-Learning Centre Ltd. (AAEC). With over 40 years of Business Management experience within the Independent sector of the automotive aftermarket in North America, Bob was widely recognized as one of the best business development coaches in the industry. Episode 106 – HEV’s and BEV’s: You’re Probably More Ready Than You ThinkThere are few individuals outside of the engineering community that know hybrid-electric vehicles as well as Craig Van Battenburg. As the founder and owner of Automotive Career Development Center (ACDC), Craig is acknowledged as one of the foremost experts on hybrid-electric (HEV) and battery-electric (BEV) diagnosis, service and repair. For the past 20 years, he’s been training shop owners and technicians on what they need to know to incorporate hybrid and electric vehicles into the service mix in their shops. Episode 105 – ASA Past Chairman Makes A DifferenceBob Wills is the owner of Wills Auto Service in Battlecreek, Michigan. He’s also an Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM), past chairman of ASA and someone who has given much to the automotive service industry he loves. Bob recently ended his term as Chairman of the Automotive Service Association (ASA) and announced his retirement. As one of the cadre of baby boomers deciding that it’s time to pass the torch to the next generation, we thought it would be fun to catch up with Bob and talk to him about his career in the automotive service industry to help inspire those who currently strive to fill what are often pretty big shoes. Episode 104 – Electrification: The Next StepWith rising concerns of environmental change and the continuing advance of technology, there’s been a lot of talk lately about the impact of electrification and what it means to the average automotive repair business. This episode begins our exploration of what’s now and what’s next in electric powertrains as we talk with Tony Mossuto, owner of Everything Automotive in Jacksonville, Florida. Tony’s shop has been providing hybrid vehicle service for about three years now, and it represents about 3% of his business. He’s ASE-certified as a Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist (L3), among other certifications. “Change won’t happen overnight,” Tony says, “And the independent repair shops have been dealing with changing automotive technology all along. This is no different.” As he points out in this podcast, a lot of the maintenance work will involve familiar systems like brakes, steering & suspension, tires, electrical and diagnostic work. Episode 103 – Protect Your Business from the Growing Threat of RansomwareIn response to a growing number of ransomware and other cybersecurity attacks, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), together with federal partners, have launched StopRansomware.gov, a website created to combat the threat of ransomware. In this episode, Steven Shipe, Business Development Manager for DELL Computers discusses the threat of malware and ransomware, why it’s real and what shop owners should be doing to protect their business, employees and customers from cyberattacks. You’ll also find more information for ASA members to access three recent webinars on the topic of cybersecurity available in the webinar library.In a press release announcing the new government website, Attorney General Merrick Garland said: “The Department of Justice is committed to protecting Americans from the rise in ransomware attacks that we have seen in recent years. It is critical for business leaders across industries to recognize the threat, prioritize efforts to harden their systems and work with law enforcement by reporting these attacks promptly.”Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas of the Department of Homeland Security added: “As ransomware attacks continue to rise around the world, businesses and other organizations must prioritize their cybersecurity. Cyber criminals have targeted critical infrastructure, small businesses, hospitals, police departments, schools and more. These attacks directly impact Americans’ daily lives and the security of our nation.
