Description

Podfluence is the show for business coaches who are aiming to grow their reach and recognition by mastering the methodologies to maximise the impact of your presentations.
More and more coaches are realising that podcasts are one of the best ways to develop your personal brand, become a trusted voice and generate organic lead flow through strategic investment of time and energy.
Relationship marketing is here to stay and there are few better ways to build relationships with your perfect future clients & customers than being on podcasts as a guest or starting your own podcast. Lots of people can tell you how to start a show, a few can show you how to grow a show but hardly anyone out there is showing you how you can become known as a key person of influence in your area of expertise by going on the right shows and by showing up in the right ways.
Just as public speaking can increase your credibility and professional image, it all depends on being able to present yourself well, deliver messages with clarity, confidence and charisma as well as being able to keep people entertained and engaged whilst you have their ears. Few other formats have your voice going directly into the ears of most of your listeners the way podcasts do and the ability to have longer form conversations that allow people to better know you and understand how you can help them solve specific problems.
Join me week by week as I share my own experience and expertise as well as those of other experts and valued voices who are maximising their impact through the medium of podcasts. You're invited to join the Podfluencers Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/mrpodfluence and to subscribe to the Podfluencer Weekly Newsletter on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/podfluencer-weekly-6882642444815519744/.

My guest for this special episode of Speaking of Influence is political speechwriter and well known TEDx speaker Simon Lancaster. To celebrate recent milestones with the show, I decided to re-edit and remaster the audio for this episode, which is my most downloaded episode ever (at least so far). The audio still isn't perfect in a few places but you can thank the internet connection for that. However, it sounds much better than it did and makes much more sense. In this episode:How writing speeches is like writing musicWhat you probably never learned at school but should haveWhy corporate speak sucks and what to do insteadThe one core skill every citizen should possessWhy Boris Johnson's speeches win him votesDo emotions matter more than facts? What do people get wrong when using metaphors?Who's the better speechmaker: Michelle or Barack Obama? I first became aware of Simon from watching his TEDx talk called 'Speak like a leader'. This was the first time I had ever come across the tools of public speaking persuasion known as rhetoric. After watching and listening to Simon, I was obsessed and found out as much as I could about this ancient art of persuasion I had never heard of before. Simon has also written speeches for many well-known politicians and has worked with many well-known organisations. For those familiar with my show, you will know I am an avid learner and a huge fan of audiobooks, usually getting through about two a week on my Audible account. When I saw there was an audiobook from Simon Lancaster called 'Winning Minds', you can bet I was keen to take a listen. The book is packed with so much great information and really blew my mind on some of the concepts like how we use metaphors and using the right kinds of metaphors for the right kinds of messages and audiences. We discussed his books and TEDx appearances and had a good chat about who in current events is using speechmaking and rhetoric well and who is not. I have to say, I was a little surprised but it all made sense through the lens of a political speechwriter and it was nice to get that perspective. You can find Simon's books on Amazon, Audible and from all reputable booksellers. His TEDx speeches are available on YouTube and if you'd like to work with him or learn from him, visit his Website BespokeSpeeches.com Make sure you're subscribed for future episodes and if you enjoyed this and learned something, share it with your tribe.  Support the show (https://speakinginfluence.supercast.tech/)Mentioned in this episode:Podfluence WeeklyJoin us for the official Podfluence Weekly newsletter https://present-influence.ck.page or Subscribe on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/build-relation/newsletter-follow?entityUrn=6882642444815519744
My guest for this episode has a healthy way of pushing. When we had a pre-recording chat to plan the episode he gave me a gentle push to join him on a Facebook live. I did and it was my first. I popped my Facebook live cherry. I'm ready for more :)Kit Pang is a public speaking coach and trainer based in Boston, USA. You can tell he has his own podcast because he likes asking the questions too. When I asked Kit why I would want him as a guest on my podcast he told me "I’m here to give your audience a kick-in-the-butt to improve their public speaking so they can be more successful as leaders." That's the kind of direct charm I just can't resist.Kit is the founder of BostonSpeaks and a public speaking coach at Harvard Business School who has worked with speakers ranging from NFL Players and Three Star Michelin Chefs to Fortune 500 CEOs and TEDx Speakers. In our chat, we discuss the difference between influence and persuasion and why that matters.I hope you'll enjoy listening in to our chat as much as we enjoyed having it. To find out more about Kit Pang you can connect with him on Linked In and you can also visit his business website here...Next episode, don't miss my chat with a former dominatrix turned presentation trainer. The conversation is explosive, fascinating and powerful. Wondering if there's some dominatrix energy in you? Why didn’t your interview get published? Why do hosts sometimes ghost their guests? Maybe you’ve had the experience of being a guest on someone else’s podcast and later on discovering that episode not only hasn’t been published but the host isn’t responding to messages. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons this happens and what you can do about it.Is it just the host to blame when an episode doesn’t get published? What can you do as a guest to make it more likely that your episode will get published and that the host won’t ghost you?Enjoying the content? When you’re presented with the choice of spending $1000s on FB ads, sprinting on the content creation treadmill or choosing the road less travelled as an ace podcast guest, how can you know which is right for you? I first encountered Christine Amerman on LinkedIn. I saw her profile headline saying she was the Queen of podcast guesting and I knew I had to find out more. I reached out and we managed to connect but it took a while before we got to have a proper chat. In the meantime, I heard her being interviewed by my good friend Kevin Chemidlin at Grow The Show and I was so impressed by how she showed up as a guest, I doubled my efforts to get to speak with Christine and set up an interview. Christine will share with us why her years of media experience led her to podcast guesting as a marketing strategy and why she went on to start her own show Podcast Guesting for Profit. What’s the difference between showing up and REALLY showing up? Should you be starting your own podcast sooner than later? How podcasting and podcast guesting can save you time in your business and why quality trumps quantity every time.Christine’s podcast is called Podcast Guesting for Profit, which I can highly recommend checking out. Christine has a free offer for everyone here which shows you 20 ways to monetize one podcast interview and I know Christine would love it if you connect with her on LinkedIn.Enjoying the content? Do you ever wonder if you're just kidding yourself about being in business as a coach, speaker or consultant? Are you one of the many who talk a good game but don't deliver the goods or one of the people who get stuck in overthinking things to the point of inaction?Do you have realistic expectations and are they based on the action you're going to take to achieve the outcomes or... are you just kidding yourself? This week I wanted to try out a somewhat more freeform style of episode, more like a fireside chat. Let me know if you like it or think it was a mess. Next week I'm bringing you my chat with The Queen. No, not Camilla, Christine Ammerman, the Queen of Podcast guesting. Why is it that most of us will do just about anything to avoid picking up the phone and calling someone, even when that call might get us a new client or booking?Coaches and speakers need to be good at picking up the phone. Why? Because in most situations of getting a new client or booking, you're going to make a lot more progress speaking to relevant people than you ever will sending emails and SMS messages.I'm not saying you can't make sales and bookings without making calls but I am saying that your ability to close the deal will increase when you pick up the phone (or hop on Zoom). I'm using this episode to explore what I think are some of the key resistance factors and how I overcame them. This really does come only from my own experience and not from any specific research, although some of the wisdom and guidance I have received in this area may well come through and is certainly relevant.Getting good at something most people aren't willing to do will set you apart. Currently, especially in the world of high-ticket sales, it's proving to be one of the most effective strategies for growing your community and increasing sales. Best of all, you'll relate more to clients and customers, building relationships in a way that most others aren't willing to do.Be sure to check out Episode 96 with Weny Harris on How to warm up your cold calls and if you want to know more about Wendy, you can find her on LinkedIn.Enjoying the content? In this episode of Podfluence, we tackle the issue of lacklustre podcast guests and offer advice for those aiming to elevate their performance. I've noticed that many people shy away from speaking up online due to a fear of negative reactions, resulting in bland and unremarkable content. To combat this, I urge you to turn up the dial on your personal energy and express your passions and convictions wholeheartedly. Additionally, I stress the importance of tough love - being willing to challenge clients and respectfully disagree with others, while still remaining positive and kind in feedback delivery. Ultimately, I believe that being memorable requires standing out, and the only way to achieve that is by authentically and passionately embodying your work. Enjoying the content? Are downloads the best measure of success in podcasting? Did you think it was OK to turn up for a virtual interview in your PJs? We’ve probably all had the experience of being unfairly judged by one superficial aspect that felt unfair. You may also have felt at times that other people don’t get your definition of success. It’s easy to get focused on the wrong metrics and it happens all the time in podcasting. Most people think podcast downloads are the be-all and end-all metric but that is blinding us to reality. Also, now that most podcasts are recorded with video, how should we be showing up for recordings? In this episode, we’re taking a fairly shallow dive into vanity metrics and vanity in general as one of our 7 deadly sins of podcasting series. If you want to check out the hilarious TED talk from the late and great Sir Ken Robinson, here's the link: https://youtu.be/iG9CE55wbtYEnjoying the content?  Being a coach can be frustrating. You learn to become a coach. You put in the hours of coaching and build up your confidence to start charging for your services, but then you find out you need to have media and marketing strategies, and you need to do sales and loads of other things that aren't coaching, aren't your zone of genius. Some coaches don't bother and end up falling by the wayside.  Some will find work with coaching companies that will help to find you clients and will give you an hourly rate, and some will want to do things their own way and grow their own coaching business. Or maybe a combination of those options, and this episode is for those of you who really are ready and willing to learn and do what it takes to grow your business.Podfluence is all about growing your business and your brand to help you get more clients and more opportunities, but we need to know how to find or create these opportunities. My guest is Simone Sauter, and Simone became a divorce coach after her partner of 10 years, suddenly left her. In that time, she found that one of the best ways to promote her own business and service was by getting featured in prestigious magazines and on podcasts. She figured out how to do that, and did such a great job of it that people started asking her to teach them how to do it too. So now Simone is a publicity coach for professional coaches like you and me. If you've been wanting to grow your business and your personal brand, but struggling with the how, you are going to get some great tips in this episode and we'll be taking a look at why coaches should be getting featured in magazines and other podcasts, and how to get you started with this and what you need to be doing to grow your business through digital media.
