Parents make sure your children listen to this! And young people, this is MUST listen episode that will help you to stay on the right side of our laws! We are not taught the basics of the laws of our land anywhere! Not even in school, unless it is electively learnt. With over 18million young people in the UK aged between 10 and 18, and statistically with the number of young adults in Britain is set to continue to rise sharply, there is so much that young, fresh, ambitious and energetic youngsters, as well as their parents, carers and friends, should know about on this topic; to understand it, and to keep themselves safe from breaking the law. There are many myths on this subject, and surprisingly the UK legal age that you can have sex, engage sexually with another person using online Apps, drink alcohol and fly the nest, is NOT common knowledge! Furthermore, very few know which acts can be a criminal offence, and this has resulted in a sharp rise in young people getting on the wrong side of our laws! There are serious repercussions for a young person, if a complaint is made about them to the Police, if they have had sex with an underage person, or drinking alcohol where they’re not supposed to, and in many more circumstances. In this episode award winning legal professional Carla Riozzi, and our host Hatti Suvari discuss all you NEED to know on all of this and much more! As always, in Plain and Simple English.#ageofconsent #agetodrink #sexualconsent #agetomoveout #legallearing #hattisuvari #carlariozzi #getlegallyspeaking #empoweryourself

Buying a property can be a complicated and stressful process, and although the majority of property transactions proceed without a hitch, it is an unfortunate reality that innocent buyers can be left in a situation where they have purchased a property, that then shows defects and it needs to be fixed, through no fault of the buyers. In most cases, if you buy something and any defects where not outlined at the time of your purchase, then you can go back to the seller and legally ask for a refund. However, would that apply to a defective property? In this episode, Hatti and experienced barrister Antonia Halker tell you whether or not a claim can be made on a defective property after its purchase, to whom you could consider bringing a claim against, and making a claim for the costs of putting the property right, and much much more! Whilst issuing a Claim against someone in the Civil Courts is something that most of us are familiar with, bringing a private criminal prosecution is not a topic that many are aware of.  If you have reported an incident to the Police, and the Police have not taken action to prosecute the party that you have complained about, can you then, as an individual, bring a private criminal prosecution against a person or a company? Interestingly, the law does allow for individuals to bring criminal proceedings, so join Hatti Suvari and the former Chief Crown Prosecutor and Barrister Nick Hawkins, in this informative episode to find out about how this area of our criminal law works. Hatti and Nick discuss the role of the Crown Prosecution Service (also referred to as the CPS), outline what the Private Prosecutions Associations is, and what it does to assist, as well as aspects of the all-important Code of Practice, for those that are considering a Private Prosecution or perhaps defending a Private Prosecution. This informative and jargon free episode gives you an insight in to how to start a Private Prosecution, and the important considerations that should be made, including the costs involved, as always, in plain and simple English.Learn more about your ad choices. Young offenders are children aged between just 10 to 17 years old. Unfortunately, youth crime is on the up, with the number of children in custody in England and Wales expected to double by 2024. Most children and parents do not know the age at which a child can get a criminal record for wrong-doing, and also how long a criminal record remains on someone’s file. There are many unknowns and myths surrounding this topic, such as where a child would service a criminal sentence, and what happens to children when they serve sentences. At Get Legally Speaking, we believe that if children were aware of just some of these simple legal facts, then some would be put off committing crimes, empowered with the facts of the consequences of doing so.  This is a must listen episode for youngsters, and for parents!  As a young person or a parent, it is so important to be well-informed on the laws of our land, especially during important and vulnerable times of our lives from 10 to 18 years old. Studies indicate that 40% to 50% of athletes have experienced anything from mild harassment to severe abuse. During the mid-90s reports of sexual abuse of child athletes in sport started to emerge in the UK. By the mid-2000s, child protection and safeguarding procedures had been introduced in to sport, making the country one of the first in the world to adopt such measures. The 3-time Olympic Champion and the first British winner of the Tour de France in 2012, Bradley Wiggins, was one of many athletes who spoke out and revealed that he was groomed and sexually abused by a coach at the age of 13. There has been much criticism of our laws, with some saying that there is a wide gap, allowing perpetrators to mask themselves as ‘sports coaches’, and able to get away with their heinous crimes of abuse. An independent enquiry stated that ‘child abuse in sport has been covered up for decades’. In this episode Hatti Suvari and senior Barrister Cameron Brown KC bring you insights in to this topic, from what is meant by child safeguarding in sport, to the new planned laws to protect and safeguard children. A key part of child safeguarding is spreading the message about keeping children safe, and building a culture of always acting in the best interest of all children.#safeguarding #childreninsport #sportscoaches #abuse #emotionalabuse #mentalabuse #childsafety #codeofconduct #criminaloffence #legallearnig #getlegallyspeaking #hattisuvari #cameronbrownkc Hosted on Acast. Statics quote that up to 70% of business partnerships ultimately fail, even though setting up a business with people we know – whether colleagues, family or friends, and with whom we already have established relationships with, is very common; and we assume the relationship will be trusting, life-long and solid. Legally formalising your business relationship with a shareholder’s agreement, can seem unnecessary, and to some, even an uncomfortable subject to discuss with their new business partner or partners. When entering in to an exciting new business venture, it is not the 'good times' that could be the problem, however, it is how you will resolve issues, challenges and disagreements when they arise. Without a shareholder’s agreement in place outlining the understanding of the business relationship, you are at risk of damaging your business and your relationship with your business partner; and if matters cannot be resolved amicably, fighting a very costly and stressful legal battle can certainly take its toll. In this episode seasoned Barrister Tim Sampson and I bring you jargon free information on what a shareholder’s agreement is all about, top tips on what you should look out for when getting one drawn up, and why having one in place is so important, as always in plain and simple English.#shareholdersagreement #aclassshares #bclassshares #companyownership #legallearning #hattisuvari #timsampson Hosted on Acast.
