Description

I am no expert by any means of the word, but I don’t believe you need to be in order to help others. My goal is to simply share knowledge & Information. I want other people with Parkinson’s to know they are not alone, that there are things they can do to improve their situation and live a improved version of their life with pd and help them be informed about their Parkinson’s so that they can advocate for their own care and lead more empowered lives. In helping others, I am helping myself. This podcast is me moving outside of my comfort zone and challenging myself to expand my own horizons. Now you might ask why I would want to do that. How can I expect to help others to change and evolve if I am not willing to myself?

"Whoever changes one life, changes the whole world;”  -Michele AmitraniChristine Jeyachandran is definitely changing this world for those living with Parkinson’s. Christine is the author of the Handstand for Parkinson’s Blog, and the creator of the Documentary of the same name as well as the only WPC Ambassador in South America! In this episode, I had the chance to talk with Christine and hear how exercise has changed her life for the better and how she is using her talents as a filmmaker and rising gymnast to inspire and encourage other people with Parkinson’s to exercise.  We also discuss what it is like living with Parkinson’s in a country like Peru, a country where there are few resources for PWP and there is very little public understanding of the condition and how Christine is working to change that for the better!Support the show

Christine Jeyachandran initiated this video project because she knows what it is like to struggle but wants everyone to know that it will make a difference, for the better.Fluid Fitness is located in Parksville British Columbia.“When you do nothing, you feel overwhelmed and powerless. In part two of my interview with Doug, he shares observations he has made as a REMO HealthRHYTHMS® facilitator on the effect that drum therapy has on people with Parkinson's especially on mood, improving gait & other motor symptoms and even enhanced immune function! We also tackle the 6 million-dollar question which is "does exercise slow the progression of the disease?" Support the show

Installment 2 of the ABC's of PD.  Did you know that Parkinson's has a distinctive walk? It is called the Parkinsonian gait, and one of the potential characteristics of this is festination.  This episode explains what festination or festinating gait means. Here is a great video demonstrating what festination looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5hrxKe2nP8** disclaimer ** I have no affiliation with any Parkinson's specific exercise program I only mention PD Warrior as a point of reference.  ** I say posterior chain in the podcast but know that working your posterior chain will also strengthen the anterior muscles including your quadriceps, hip flexors, and abdominals.**Support the show
Happy New Year! I am back at it.  I don't know about you but I have to take medication to manage my symptoms enough so that I can function, and with medications come side effects.  One class of medications used in the management of Parkinson's Disease has some pretty complex and potentially upsetting side effects, Dopamine Agonists. They act like dopamine in the brain and can cause patients to behave differently than they normally would. Not everyone will develop these side effects, for many of us they are a very beneficial treatment option.   But I believe that by understanding the risks of taking these medications empowers us as patients and empowered patients have better outcomes! Support the show

Yes I did a podcast about pooping...or not pooping!  Pooping, having a food baby, going number two...however you call it, it is a normal healthy and IMPORTANT bodily function.  I think we underestimate how important it really is until we can't poop. And so many suffer in silence because, let's face it, it is SUPER embarrassing to talk about ESPECIALLY with your Dr.  If I can talk about it on the internet, you can talk to your Dr.!!   Everybody Poops by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Artist: http://audionautix.com/Support the show
