Description

A weekly show for listeners to hear stories and conversations that allow us to explore subtle events and interesting social interactions too often ignored. These stories are meant to arouse the emotions of listeners towards self-improvement and consider how our behaviors impact others. There have been many moments in my life where I have wanted to share interesting stories that can be used by others to improve their own lives. With 22 years of educating youth and adults, I would like to share topics with you that will push against social norms and shift your mindset to consider alternative views. Sometimes, the best advice can be collected from the stories of others.

Gender Bullies

Some may find this hard to believe, but men are bullied too. These behaviors against men go unchecked and have not been addressed. Men and their silence. Are we able to say, "I had enough!" instead of internalizing our feelings. How do we have a voice? How do we disagree with women? How can we release frustration within the current social constraints placed on men today?
A peek into the windows of our homes is often displayed in the behaviors of very young children. In their innocence, they will repeat the conversations of parents without a filter. Their voices can offer an honest account of our strange behaviors. How soon can implicit biases influence children? How can adults positively influence the beliefs of their children?
Can a woman give a gift to a married man or vice versa? How do we establish clear boundaries in relationships and determine what is appropriate when exchanging gifts? Who determines what is appropriate and how do you determine someones intention?
Who holds all the cards in a blended family? There are multiple television sitcoms that try to shape what life is like in a blended family. Only those you dare to engage in this process can begin to articulate some of the complexities involved. Where can we find the answers to making this union the most successful for all involved?
Why can't I keep my money? Every time I turn around, money is being paid to someone or something. Why can't I just pay it off? It seems like I have to pay to play to have a quality standard of living.

How much choice do we have in the information available to us on the internet? Are we simply following the leader without looking for other views? In the age of information through tools like the internet, how much can we know? With overwhelming information that is readily available at a keystroke, why are we being limited to predetermined profiles?

Join me in a frank conversation with Lakisha Fulmore, MS Ed LMHC. She currently works as a Care Coordinator for the State of New York, as well as a Psychotherapist for Urban Health Plan, primarily servicing the Bronx.
