At what age is it appropriate to give your kid a smartphone? How can we #savethekids from the dangers of social media?  This is the work Collin Kartchner dedicated what ended up being the final years of his life to.I had planned to have Collin on the Podcast to share his mission, but unfortunately, that time never came. Collin Kartchner passed away suddenly on October 20th, 2020. So, even though he cannot be here today, it is my honor to share his mission with all of you. He fought hard for our kids and it's in our hands now to carry the torch. Today in our country and across the globe we are seeing an epidemic rise in the levels of anxiety, depression, and suicide among our teenagers. According to the CDC, suicide is the second leading cause of death for 10-24 year old Americans. The rate of death by suicide in people 10-24 years old increased 57.4% over the 10 year period from 2007 to 2018. Much of this epidemic has been attributed to the rise of cell phones and social media over the last decade.  Let's dive in and tackle this important topic.Links Mentioned:Collin Kartchner Tedx Talk#SaveTheKidsCollin Kartchner WebsiteGabb WirelessDon't Miss:Collin Kartchner Celebration of LifeCollin Kartchner Memorial Fund To Support Collin's beautiful wife and 4 kidsThe Collin Kartchner PodcastLet's Connect:WebsiteEmail: katy@motherhoodaligned.comFacebook GroupInstagram

Today's topic is huge. It is something a lot of us have been lacking this year, and something the world needs more of. We’re going to be talking about Connection: The importance of connection with our kids, social connection during Covid,  and finally (and most importantly), the connection we have with ourselves. With a quick google search of “the importance of human connection” you’ll get a ton of articles and studies supporting the value of feeling connected. Human connection is basically relationships. Brene Brown, who I love,  defines connection as “the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”So let's dive in! ---Links Mentioned:Show NotesEventBriteConscious Parenting Group Program/Coaching1:1 Coaching for MomsMotherhood Aligned Facebook GroupConnect on Instagram

As parents, it is OUR responsibility to break the generational patterns of racism. It is our responsibility to be the change and empower our children to be the change. It’s not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist.  We should all be doing more, so today I am sharing what I have found in my own research on how we can talk to our kids about race and racism. This is not an exhaustive list, I am not an expert on racism and I don’t have all of the answers, I am just a real mom wanting to learn and help other moms do the same. In light of what’s going on in the world around us I will not be sharing our regularly scheduled podcast. Instead, I’ll be using this space to share the names of black people slain by police violence or victims of hate crimes. I will also be sharing some resources that I’ve come across and that I am utilizing to educate myself further on racism. I strongly encourage you to do the same. These names only represent a very small handful of victims of racism but their names deserve to be known and heard. Trayvon Martin Age 17 killed in 2012Tamir Rice Age 12 killed in 2014Michael Brown Age 18 killed in 2014Eric Garner age 43 killed in 2014Sandra Bland Age 28 killed in 2015Freddie Gray age 25 killed in 2015Alton Sterling age 37 killed in 2016Philando Castile age 32 killed in 2016Botham Jean age 26 killed in 2018Atatiana Jefferson age 28 killed in 2019Ahmaud Arbery age 25 killed in 2020Doug Lewis age 39 killed in 2020Breonna Taylor age 26 killed in 2020George Floyd age 46 killed in 2020RESOURCES:Black Lives Matter.
