The show is for social workers, counsellors, psychotherapists and anyone in the mental health profession as well anyone looking for more information on improving their mental health or overall wellness. The show is hosted by a group of Registered Social Workers/Psychotherapists including; Matt Barnes, Michele McPherson, Taylor Dunlop & Rachael Fowler. 

Every episode aims to be informative, relevant and full of practical tips, tricks and wisdom from some of the leading experts in the field.

On Ep 35 guest host- Michele McPherson is back with another episode in a mini series on mental performance and athlete mental health. You may recognize Michele from our first ever episode and again on Ep 14 where she discussed the use of EMDR and Yoga. Michele is a Social Worker, Yoga Instructor and program head of a Mental Performance Program called Perform through Southwest Counselling Services in Sarnia, ON. Michele chats with Eric Corda who is a Registered Massage Therapist in Sarnia at the Sarnia Chiropractic and Performance Centre.  Michele and Eric do deep dive into the support experiences he has had with athletes locally and around the world. Eric’s expertise goes beyond the physical realm and into supporting the whole individual. Eric became a Registered Massage Therapist in 1999 after graduating from Sault College in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Eric has received further postgraduate training in a variety of courses that he combines to provide a comprehensive treatment for his patients. Some of the techniques Eric may apply include myofascial release, neurofunctional acupuncture, soft tissue release, K-Laser therapy, advanced sports massage and joint mobilization. Eric has worked with athletes from several different sports and at various levels of competition including local clubs, minor and junior hockey organizations, collegiate and university athletics as well as international sports competitions. Some of the outstanding teams and competitions Eric has been a part of include the Sarnia Sting (OHL), 2018 Commonwealth Games, 2018 U20 World Athletics Championships, OHL Gold Cup (Team Alliance), 2005 World Transplant Games, 2001 IAAF World Track and Field Championships. Eric is an active member of the Ontario Massage Therapists Association. Sports and physical activity have always played a huge part in Carolyne's life and she has participated in gymnastics, Tae Kwon Do, hockey, soccer, and CrossFit. Over the years, she has won multiple national championship titles in different sports as well as played on several National teams. Michele is a Social Worker, Yoga Instructor and program head of a Mental Performance Program called Perform through Southwest Counselling Services in Sarnia, ON. Michele sits down with Jordan Todd who is a former high level hockey player turned holistic health coach. Jordan was born and raised in western Canada and hockey was his entire life for over 15 years. Making it to a high level, but ultimately finishing with a bad taste in his mouth after his hockey career had a sour ending to it. This was the catalyst for everything that came after, and the transition into coaching. He has experience working with athletes and teams ranging from young kids, all the way to junior hockey teams and current professional players. Social Work Me is back after a long hiatus with the first episode in a series on Mental Health & Performance in Sports. Originally recorded in November 2021, Ep 31 features Amy Mausser who shares her experiences as an athletic therapist working with elite level junior hockey players. She is the former Sarnia Sting OHL Hockey Athletic Therapist and is a Certified Athletic Therapist, Certified Strength and Conditioning specialist, Registered Massage Therapist and former athlete. On Episode 30 Matt sits down to chat with Kate Becker who is a certified EMDR therapist, Trainer, Consultant, Yoga instructor and Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapist based out of Glastonbury, Connecticut. On Episode 29 Matt is joined by 2nd Year Psychology Student Quinn Bisson to interview King’s University Social Work Professor Dr. Rick Csiernik. Quinn has been working with the homeless population and his interests in mental health and addiction have led him to develop a focus on Social Work. On Episode 24 Matt is joined by psychologist and psychotherapist Roger Solomon to talk about trauma, grief and EMDR. Roger has over 40 years experience in the mental health field and is currently the program director for the EMDR Institute.  He is an author, international trainer in basic and advanced EMDR, and consultant for the US senate, NASA and has provided clinical services and training to the FBI, Secret Service, ATF, US Dept of Justice and the Polizia di Stato in Italy. Michelle is the first and only Black/person of colour, Director of Service with the Children’s Aid Society of London & Middlesex (CASLM).  Her passion has always been using her voice to challenge oppression and the status quo in all areas of her life, so having the lead role in guiding the CASLM through a multi-year organizational change of embedding equity into the fabric of the agency, with a strong focus on addressing anti-Black racism is a natural fit.  Michelle oversees the agency’s Indigenous Services Unit, which she feels privileged to do.  She was elected by her provincial peers to co-chair the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies’ Anti-Oppression Roundtable.  Michelle designs and delivers workshops and training sessions on equity, anti-racism and addressing anti-Black racism for the public and private sectors.  On this episode we discuss:-Child welfare practices and advancements-The role of child protection workers-How our individual views guide our assessments and work with families-Cultural implications for assessing safety: co-sleeping, bathing, supervision of children, boundaries, car safety-Equity, anti- oppression, anti-racism-Black and indigenous children in care-George Floyd, Black Lives Matter, Candace Owens-Virtue Signaling & Slacktivism-The importance of understanding trauma and history-What can we do?
