On this episode of Beyond Med-Surg Nursing, I had a blast talking with Yolanda Russell, a Coach who specializes in helping nurses to get unstuck, kiss burnout goodbye and find happiness in their calling, what's right for them.We recorded this interview back in the 1st week of February, so you may hear some references to some activities and events that refer to pre- or early pandemic days.  I also have some updates on the information she shared because Yolanda has been going full-steam ahead in her coaching business.I live in California and when the stay-at-home orders went into effect, I felt like I went into a haze and I’m just getting my bearings back. So much has changed in the past few months. I had just started my podcast back in February, yet everything has changed for nurses and our country. It’s taken me the past few months to get out of the haze and back to producing more episodes for the podcast. What I’ve realized is how important these conversations with nurses who have moved beyond med-surg and bedside nursing are. You might be in a place to make a change and I hope this episode inspires you to do so, if that's right for you.I think you’ll get a kick out of my interview with Yolanda because she’s full of energy, has been where a lot of nurses are now, burned out, and needed to make a change. In this episode she talks about how she made the switch from ICU Nurse to Nurse Coach.  In today's episode Yolanda touches on The round-about path she took that landed her in nursingThe day that caused her to question if being a bedside nurse was right for her. How she decided to pursue her career path to coachingThe main skill she learned in nursing that helped her to make a successful career transitionWhat she would do, or not do differently if she was starting over again today.Lessons and tips for nurses who are considering leaving bedside nursingTo find out more about YolandaPodcast The Unfiltered Nurse Podcast-  https://yrussell.com/the-unfiltered-nurse-podcastYou can connect with her on Instagram -  https://www.instagram.com/xo_yolandarussell/Online on her website -  https://yrussell.com/And learn more about her coaching program for nurses, Breakthrough and Brand Accelerator -  https://yrussell.com/breakthrough-brand-accelerator If you enjoyed the show, please connect with me on instagram at @christy.m.moore and send me a DM.Do you have questions about changing things up in your career? On this episode of Beyond Med-Surg Nursing, I'm chatting with Chelsey Rodgers, a former Pediatric Critical Care nurse who took something that she was already doing, which was to organize herself and what she needed to do for her patients (something we all can relate to) and created a business that helps 1,000's of other nurses do the same. Not only has she created a thriving eCommerce business, Tribe-RN.com, but she's also created an engaged and active Facebook community of over 16,000 nurses and nursing students. Truly an amazing accomplishment. Here is Chelsey's mission in her own words: "My mission is to create the best resources, tools, charts, and diagrams for her fellow nurses. I want to help everyone in our field, from nursing student to seasoned nurse.I envision a community of nurses banding together, sharing ideas, focus, resources, laughs, and stressors. My hope in this is to create unity within our profession and improve patient care."In today's episode, Chelsey discussesHow her nursing background led to her businessThe push that launched her businessThe mindset shift she had to make to get comfortable leaving the bedsideHow her Facebook is designed to serve, educate and bring nurses togetherHow she develops her productsLessons and tips for nurses who are considering starting their own businessChelsey’s enthusiasm and commitment to helping nurses is contagious. On this episode, you'll hear from Marti Trudeau, RN, MPA, CPHQ and Doctoral Candidate in Social Work at USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work, where she is expected to graduate in May, 2020.Prior to returning to graduate school, Marti worked as a Director of Care Coordination with the BAYADA Home Health Care Center for Integrative Care (CIC).Integrative Care focuses on clients’ distinct needs over the continuum of their home care experience. This is a new approach to client care that looks beyond specialty settings and responds to clients and their changing health care needs. When Marti started at BAYADA her work involved Case Management (CM) of mostly VA home care clients. She then worked as a Division Clinical Manager and then Director of a BAYADA State Programs Office. In this role she had oversight of all aspects of the provision of home health aide services to Medicaid recipients in Philadelphia including those under and over 60 years old.Marti is the author or co-author of 22 articles and papers in peer-reviewed journals and other publications. When Marti first worked in home care, she observed first-hand the negative social determinants of health on impoverished patients in the community. She was inspired to find a way to innovate change and raise the standards of care not just for patients, but for the workers who take care of them.In today’s episode Marti shares more about:• Her innovative doctoral project to address the gaps in health care that could reshape the standard of care for home health• The subtle difference between home health and home care and why it matters• The 3 negative social determinants of health and how they impact the health of patients• Why you should educate yourself for the position you want• Why she calls herself a “nurse generalist” and how that identity has helped to shape her career• Tips for nurses who are considering home care and the foundational experience nurses should have before considering transitioning to home careMarti is so generous with her knowledge and wisdom, I’m excited for you to hear this episode.Links mentioned in this episodehttps://www.bayada.com/https://dworakpeck.usc.edu/You can reach Marti at MTrudeau@usc.edu.Connect with Marti on LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/marti-trudeau-rn-mpa-cphq-07413612/Sign up for career resources at www.ChristyMarieMoore.com
