Description

Where Coffee, Conversation, and Theology Meet. During my 40 years in ministry, I’ve developed an increasing burden for what I sense to be an increase in biblical illiteracy, not only among those in our churches, but also in the young men and women entering the ministry. Conversely, I am hopeful, because I also sense a hunger from people to learn and know biblical truth and the things of God has revealed to us in Scripture. Our Kitchen Table Theology team has developed a list of over 150 doctrinal topics which I, along with one of my cohosts, Jen Denton or Tiffany Coker, examine weekly. Our goal is to educate and share biblical truth on the same level as if we were sitting at your kitchen table with a Bible and a pot of southern pecan coffee in front of us. Welcome to the table!

056 Glorification

2021-05-0922:39

“Without sound doctrine, the church falls apart, releasing a torrent of false teaching and an onslaught of immaturity.” - Dr. Dustin BengeHello Kitchen Table Theology Family! Today Pastor Jeff Cranston and Jen Denton are continuing their study of understanding who we are in Christ. In today’s podcast, we’re going to talk about the topic of glorification. [00:01 - 10:26] What is Glorification? Glorification is the theological term used to describe the final removal of sin from the lives of Christians at the end of time.Biblically, glorification exists as one of three parts of the process of the Christian life: Justification, Sanctification, then comes Glorification. The body of every Christian will become like Christ's post-resurrection body, fully glorified for all of eternity.[10:27 - 17:47] What Will Our Glorified Bodies Look Like? When Christ returns he will give all believers at the same time perfect resurrection bodies like his own.Jen and Pastor Jeff discuss Glorification in the New Testament. [17:48 - 19:48] A New Creation In Christ   How the doctrine of Glorification weaves in with Salvation, Redemption, and Sanctification to reveal God’s will for Newness in Christ [19:49 - 22:39] Closing Segment         Final thoughts and reminders from Pastor Jeff and Jen Tweetable Quotes:“Those who know the Lord will enjoy a perfect eternity with a glorified body perfectly designed by the God of creation.” — Pastor Jeff Cranston“I always think about the stuff we have to endure here that one day we will no longer endure when we receive those glorified bodies, freed from the ravages and curses of sin.” — Jen Denton“The body of every Christian will become like Christ's post-resurrection body, fully glorified for all of eternity.” — Pastor Jeff Cranston Bible Verses Mentioned: 1 Corinthians 15:53-52Philippians 3:20-21John 20:27-28Romans 8:23-25Genesis 3:15Revelation 22:3Revelation 22:20Resources Mentioned/ Footnotes:Your Greatest Adventure: Taking the Next Steps in Your Faith by Jeff CranstonHappily Ever After: Studies in the Beatitudes by Jeff Cranston Join the ConversationWe love your feedback! 055 Sanctification

2021-05-0222:15

“Sanctification is the work of God’s free grace, whereby we are renewed in the whole man after the image of God, and are enabled more and more to die unto sin, and live unto righteousness.”Hello Kitchen Table Theology Family! Today Pastor Jeff and Jen discuss the Doctrine of Sanctification: what it means to go from living self-like to Christ-like.[00:01 - 05:04] What is Sanctification? It is a continuing change worked by God in us, freeing us from sinful habits and forming in us Christlike affections, dispositions, and virtues.[05:05 - 09:11] The Essence of Sanctification To make holySet apart from profane use for holy useSanctification applies to our minds, lives, abilities, and bodies[09:11 - 10:58] How Does Sanctification Fit in With the Other Doctrines?  Through justification, we are declared righteous so that in sanctification we through Christ may become righteous. It exhibits the fruit of the relationship[10:59 - 15:02] The Inception of Sanctification   Positional sanctification and progressive sanctificationWhen we receive Christ as Lord and Savior we are in one sense immediately sanctified. But subsequent to our conversion we often experience a struggle of the will. Recognize the presence of carnalitySurrender to JesusThe infilling of the Holy Spirit [15:03 - 18:56] The Continuation of Sanctification in Our Lives  Reaffirmation; Recommitting ourselves to Christ and reaffirming that we are no longer interested in that old life.[18:56 - 22:15] A Summary of What We’ve discussedFinal words from Pastor Jeff and Jen Tweetable Quotes:“Sanctification is not about trying harder to live a godly life nor to struggle more to be a better Christian. It is supernatural power released in us by Christ to enable us to live a holy life.” — Pastor Jeff Cranston“As we live out the life we are called to, we experience His sanctifying power in us, drawing us closer and closer to God and giving us an ever-increasing desire to live a life of holiness for His glory.” — Jen Denton“I’ve never regretted any time I’ve chosen Christ.”  — Pastor Jeff Cranston Bible Verses Mentioned: 1 Thessalonians 5:23-241 Corinthians 6: 19-20Hebrews 10 Romans 7:15 1 Peter 1:22 Thessalonians 2:13 Galatians 5: 22-231 Peter 3:15Resources Mentioned/ Footnotes:Westminster Shorter Catechism Join the ConversationWe love your feedback! 054 Justification

054 Justification

2021-04-2521:42

“For the Christian, justification is completely the work of God, which not only forgives our sins but also attributes to us the righteousness of Jesus. Justification can never be earned by our good works; it is only received by faith, based upon the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.” In this episode of Kitchen Table Theology, we will discuss the doctrine of Justification, the brevity of what it truly means, and how it affects our standing with Jesus Christ.      [00:01 - 04:23] What’s The Difference Between Systematic Theology and Doctrine?Systematic Theology is any study that answers the question, “What does the whole Bible teach us today?” Doctrine is what the whole Bible teaches us today about a particular topic.  [04:24 - 08:05] What Does Justification Mean?  Biblically defined: Justification means to pronounce, accept, and treat as just.1Justification is completely the work of God, which not only forgives our sins but also attributes to us the righteousness of Jesus. Justification can never be earned by our good works.[08:06 - 10:13] Unpacking Justification From Scripture  Acts 13:38-39[10:14 - 14:51] What Does It Mean to be Justified?  To have your sins forgiven in such a way that God's honor and integrity are preserved by it.If God merely swept sin under the rug, He could no longer be regarded as the God of justice and truth. But God has found a way, through Jesus, to lay the guilt of our life and heart upon his own Son.[14:52 - 16:45] How does Justification Affect My Standing with Jesus and My Identity in Him?  Jesus shed his blood on the cross and rose from the grave to reconcile us to God.Both the Old and New Testaments assure us, “The just shall live by faith”[16:46 - 21:42] So Now What?       Romans 5:1 Tells us that, because of Christ, we are now at perfect peace with God.Final words from Pastor Jeff and Jen. Tweetable Quotes:“Justification means to have your sins forgiven in such a way that God's honor and integrity are preserved by it.” — Pastor Jeff Cranston“Justification means that we are restored to favor with God… that the stain of condemnation has been replaced with God’s favor ... I am now, because of Christ, at perfect peace with God. And God has declared that so.” — Jen DentonBible Verses Mentioned: Romans 3:24Romans 3:28Romans 5:9Romans 5:1Galatians 2:16Ephesians 2:8 Titus 3:5Acts 13:38-392 Corinthians 5:21Habakkuk 2:4 Romans 1:17Galatians 3:11Hebrews 10:38Resources Mentioned/ Footnotes:1 Walter A.
