I'm flying solo in this episode of The Writing Community Podcast. I received a bit of bad news from my extended family last week and it threw me into a bit of a funk. Even though I had the week off from work, I still didn't get as much accomplished as I had originally hoped and I didn't record any interviews to share for this episode. So I decided to do my first full solo episode and read the first twenty pages of my unpublished book, The Nemesis Directive. It's an adult thriller and as such it contains adult topics and language. If you're around little ones or if you don't want to hear the adult language then you might want to skip this episode and tune in next week.If you haven't already, please subscribe and leave a quick of the show on whatever platform you use to listen to podcasts. It really helps to spread the show to a wider audience which helps me to bring on high profile authors and publishing experts you want to hear from.As always, please leave me a comment on my website or reach out to me on Twitter. I would love to hear from you.

In this episode of The Writing Community Podcast, I chat with author Luke Murphy. Luke is a former professional hockey player turned adult fiction author. While recovering from a career-ending eye injury he sustained on the ice rink in the winter of 2000, Luke passed the time by reading books by some of his favorite authors, such as Greg Isles, Michael Connelly, and others.According to Luke's website, "One day, with an idea in mind, he sat down at a computer and began writing. Murphy wrote a little every day, around an intense rehabilitation schedule, and before he knew it he had completed his first manuscript." From 2000 to 2007, Luke worked to hone his craft and find his own voice. He continued reading and writing and made connections with other authors to help develop his skill. In 2007 Luke began work on, "Dead Man's Hand". To do research for his novel, he traveled back and forth to Las Vegas, Nevada to learn the in's and out's of police procedure with the Las Vegas police department. In 2012, Luke hired the Jennifer Lyons Literary Agency and signed a contract with Imajin Books to publish Dead Man's Hand.Murphy has since published three more novels. "Wild Card" which features the main character, Calvin Watters, is the sequel to Dead Man's Hand while "Kiss and Tell" and "Rock-A-Bye Baby" are the first and second books in his Charlene Taylor series. All of Luke Murphy's books can be purchased on Amazon.Dead Man's HandWild CardKiss and TellRock-A-Bye BabyYou can connect Luke on website http://www.authorlukemurphy.com and on Twitter @AuthorLMurphy
My co-host today is the amazing and incredibly talented, Miss Jori Hanna. Jori is an author, publishing consultant, literary agent, and freelance assistant from Denver, Colorado, who, from the time she began reading in the second grade, developed a love for books and the writing process which led her to attend Taylor University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Professional Writing. While studying at Taylor, she discovered a love for suspense, crime, thrillers, and mystery novels. She enjoys anything that allows her to pretend she could be a spy (such as a weapons class at the dojo she where she studied Karate, excuses to dress up and meet people, and random facts that may never be useful in normal, everyday life). After graduating college, she discovered a love for tabletop role-playing games, for many of the same reasons she loves anything else that lets her play a part in a story, and she is passionate about helping others achieve their highest potential—either through teaching the skills necessary for success in publishing or by coming alongside to assist however she can through her services offered on her website. Be sure to check out Jori’s website and connect with her on almost any social media as @authorjjhanna.Read Jori's short stories and publicationsJori's WebsiteTwitterInstagramYouTubeFacebook
