ATLA Shrugged: The Avatar the Last Airbender Podcast

Zuko looks for honor in all the wrong places. The Earth nation has room for all sorts - except for folks who play with fire. Flashbacks teach us about an ideal mother, a twisted sister, and a sinister second son with ambitions too big for his britches. What exactly happened to shake up the line of succession? The Prince of Angst may have a good handle on his twin blades, but he's got a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone... but we believe, Zuko has room to grow. 

It's Fight Night at Earth Rumble 6! The Gaang arrives in a new city looking to get schooled in rock kicking. Aang is not impressed with Master Yu's teaching at the local bender academy, so the team follows a lead to the Pro Earthbending Ring. The Boulder knocks out the likes of Big Bad Hippo and Fire Nation Man, but then gets pummeled by the reigning Champion—THE BLIND BANDIT! Aang knows Toph is the teacher he's been searching for, but her richy-rich parents, the Beifongs, ain't having it. Even after Toph puts the smack down on a whole band of Earthbending pros, her dad can't see she's a total rock prodigy. But now that her true prowess is out in the open, Toph's gonna follow those good vibrations and offer her tutelage to the twinkle-toed Avatar. 

Gaang gets lost in the swamp. After seeing visions of loved ones lost (and persons unknown), tackling a swamp monster, roasting possum chicken with some newfound kinfolk, and embracing the interconnectivity of all living things, Team Avatar returns to familiar lands. Meanwhile, Zuko isn't yet jiving with his new refugee lifestyle, so he dons a blue mask and nabs a fancy-shmancy tea set for the Dragon of the West. Aang reckons with rumors his past life committed murder and gets thrown in jail. Sokka sets to sleuthing without his trusty boomerang. Can Aang step into some very large boots and clear the good Avatar name, or will he be boiled in oil to a crispy golden brown? We'll see in this special two-in-one episode so we can all get on to THE BLIND BANDIT already :)

Omashu's been overrun by some Fire Nation thugs. While Azula recruits her former schoolmates to hunt down Zuko, the city comes down with an entirely curable case of Pentapox. Momo kidnaps a baby by accident, and Aang learns there's power in doing absolutely nothing. "New Ozai" is thrill ride of chutes and ladders, plus some chin bending from our favorite Earthbending King.

"What kinda people are ya?" Team Avatar meets a band of nomads who've traveled the world through the power of song. Chong & crew say they say they've heard of a SECRET TUNNEL—a way through the mountain to reach Omashu! So curse be danged, Gaang lets love lead the way. Meanwhile, Iroh mistakes White Jade for White Dragon and brews a poisonous tea, leaving Zuko to seek help from a local Earth Nation herbalist who brings him face to face with the wages of his father's war. With the Fire Nation hot on everyone's heels, the Cave of Two Lovers uncovers the legendary power of trusting one another, plus some wolf bats and badger moles.

Welcome to the Earth Nation! Tales of Aang's Glow-Power have spread across the globe. General Fong says it's time to win the war - so it's time for Aang to fight the Fire Lord. Princess Azula joins the hunt, and Zuko yearns for his lost honor. AJ and I dive into Book 2 Episode 1 and talk power dynamics, culture shocks, sibling rivalries, and kicking rocks.

Sokka finds love in city of Ice-Venice, Aang gets a real Waterbending Master, and Katara proves that girls can fight too.  Commander Buzz-Kill tries to assassinate the banished Prince but gets outwitted again. Will the Fire Nation fleet succeed in defeating the power of the North? This is the penultimate episode of our first season - Next time we tackle "The Siege of the North" Parts 1 & 2.

It's a parrot - No! An Airwalker! Team Avatar hears fireside tales of flying men before heading on up to the Northern Air Temple. Aang challenges Teo to a hang-glider Sky Duel. The Airwalkers may not have bending abilities, but have they got Spirit (Yes! They! Do!)? Time to blow the lid off this  episode - Just follow your nose to the smell of rotten eggs! 

"UNTIL I GOT BORED!"We are literally fighting fire with fire on this episode of ATLA... Our fair adventurers pull off at the most life-threatening rest stop in the land. Just can't say no to a good Fire Festival. All it takes is some flaming fire flakes,  a little puppet show propaganda, and a dangerous stage trick to  unmask Team Avatar. But it turns out some Fire Nation soldiers are good and this COULD be Aang's only chance to learn fire bending. Will he shoot fire out of his fingertips? 

Serious dad vibes make Aang feel like yesterday's news, what with all the pelts and tales and stewed sea prunes. Bato of the Water Tribe tells it like it is. Zuko hires a Shirshu-riding huntress named June. Iroh tries to impress with some perfume. Team Avatar breaks up but they get back together. Everything's better with plot twists. Oh, and Kailey has quite a theory about F.C. Yee's daofei storyline. 

It's written in the stars... or was it the clouds? Howsabout that massive volcano that's about to wreak havoc on the town?Aang Gang ventures once again to a new town where dreams come true in 'The Fortuneteller'.

There are apparently 15 definitions of water in the dictionary. None of these describe bending water though. My intent was to see if a definition of water bending, or a quick how to, has in the dictionary. No dice. I guess I had such good luck when I looked up "goldsmithing" that I got arrogant.Aang picked it up quick enough I guess. But will his wet skills tip the scales? I visibly shrug.Hear us muse about Chapter 9, won't you? so prog rock ! ! It's the second-half of our two-part adventure and we're ankle-deep in the Spirit World, which has the same consistency and caloric content as maple syrup, matter o' fact.That's right, the Winter Solstice is TONIGHT, and Team Aavatar's gotta make it to the crescent-shaped island SMACK-dab in the Fire Nation where -- you betcha --  The Fire's Lord's FIRE SAGES keep a statue of the dude who used to live in the temple under lock and key. Five simultaneous fire blasts stand between Aang and his last life. Whatever he chooses, let's hope he remembers this Temple is a "shoes-off" household.(BTW Scorch marks guide the path. If it looks like it's working, it probably is. )
