W3 M4D3 4 N3W 8357 Fr13ND! It's time to dig into the 2022 sci-fi horror M3GAN, spearheaded by James Wan! There's a lot of talent behind this meme of a movie, including stand-out child actors, unbelievable stunts, and a special effects department that blew us away. Jaime did the research for this one while Eric did the recap, and we had a blast watching this tiny robot's reign of terror. Content Warnings: parental death, grief and trauma experienced by a kid (portrayed by a very talented child...
WE'RE BACK! It's our first episode of the year and the beginning of SEASON 4 OF HORRORSCOPE (!) so we decided to kick things off with Brandon Cronenberg's latest sci-fi horror film, Infinity Pool. There's a lot going on here, but the good news is that Mia Goth had fun and so did we. Content Warnings:Gore, sexual content, nudity, non-consensual sexual contact (listen to the ad break for context), racism, anti-Semitism, and bodily fluids (like...all of them)Show Notes: “...
It's the best and silliest time of the year: let's end 2022 on a dumb note with the 3rd annual Scopies awards! We watched a lot of heavy hitters and more than a few bizarre movies. Get ready for Girlboss of the Year, Biggest Bastard, Most Rewatchable, and more! Thank you to everyone for listening and making it a great year!
Are you ready for A LOT OF SPOILERS?! We're covering four new (to us) releases from the last six months that we saw in theaters! Dive into a neo-Western science fiction horror, a black comedy horror, a good ol' fashioned horror film and a psychological thriller as we look at a very mixed bag of plots, directors, performances, and subject matter. (Check the show notes for some very ironic real-life drama surrounding the films.) Content warnings: spoilers for all movies listed, brief...
We're back with a new release of a classic franchise— it's time for David Bruckner's take on Clive Barker's classic Hellraiser! We went into this movie with our fingers crossed for more iconic designs and weird, horny vibes, but you'll have to listen to find out if this remake is more pain or pleasure. 💀Content Warnings: torture, gore, brief sex scenes, drug use, body horror Show Notes: The Dragon's Bride (A Deal With a Demon #1)by Katee Robert
What's your favorite scary movie.....because there's a good chance that Wes Craven's 1996 slasher, Scream is going to reference it. We finally get around to this classic and revel in the most consecutive girlboss moments of ALL TIME as well as iconic kills and stand-out performances (hint: it's Matthew Lillard again). Content warnings: gun violence, stabbing, gore, implied sexual assault.
We're completing our summer slasher block by counting sheep and watching Wes Craven's 1984 American supernatural slasher film, A Nightmare On Elm Street! An inventive revitalization of the slasher genre, this movie has legendary special effects, questionable performance decisions, a stupid amount of blood, and one tiny girlboss trying to make it through the night. Content warnings: gore, blood, dream stuff, mention of child death, maggots, burns and fire trauma, domestic violence, bugs, eels,...
Let's dive into Crystal Lake and a classic slasher, Sean Cunningham's 1980 slasher Friday the 13th! This movie was surprising throughout and not for the reasons you might think. Eric tries to keep us on track while Jaime just fully loses it. Content Warnings: referenced drowning and child death, stabbing, gore, sex, nudity, animal death, racism, and a spoiler for Scream in the second half.
HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY HORRORSCOPE! We're celebrating two years in the movie-watching business by returning to a classic franchise and a sequel we had high hopes for, Raja Gosnell's 2004 live-action/computer-animated horror comedy, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. We had the classic Horrorscope experience watching this one (we'll let you figure out exactly what that means)! No content warnings! Enjoy!
It's time to meet one tenacious child, his mom on the beat, and a tiny, tiny, horrible doll man. We watched Child's Play, Tom Holland's supernatural horror film. This movie is brisk, a little silly, self-aware, and filled with way more explosions than you'd expect from a possessed doll's reign of terror. Eric looks at the facts while Jaime confronts a childhood fear (and learns that they're not all named Chuckys! Who knew!) Content warnings: CREEPY DOLL CONTENT, burns, animatronics, kid...
We're going into uncharted territory...a place we've never gone...to a film with no Wikipedia article.! That's right, we're diving back into the toilet to watch the 1989 sequel with no relevance to the original, Ghoulies 2! This movie has a carnival gone mad, more magic, and, most importantly, more ghoulies. Jaime absolutely loses it and it's Eric's fault. Content Warnings: ableism, violence, gore, light sexual content
Buckle up, partners! We dove into Ti West's 2022 new release, X, which has received a lot of buzz for its style and homages. We were surprised by this movie's tone and restraint rather than the subject matter since this slasher grapples with aging, youth, beauty, sex, counter-culture, and one very patient alligator. Content warnings: sex and nudity, drug use, animal death, eye trauma, hand trauma, head trauma, gore, stabbing, gator stuff.
Grab your shovel and your Dad, it's time for André Øvredal's 2016 supernatural medical thriller, The Autopsy of Jane Doe! This movie is brisk, brilliantly shot, and carried by the two main actors and some advanced yoga techniques. Eric supports the snacking rights of coroners while Jaime tries to unravel the mystery and keep her lunch down. Content Warnings: animal death, mention of suicide, body horror, medical horror, unreality. Show Notes: Interview: André Øvredal Dissects The Autopsy...
We're tempting fate this week with a new franchise! James Wong's 2000 supernatural horror film Final Destination is established in popular culture but it's not even close to what we were expecting. Get ready for survivor's guilt, weird acting choices, and a lot of electrical fires. Content warnings: Paranoia, suicide, gore, hanging, head trauma, car accident, decapitation, fire, and a gnarly plane crash opening scene.
Sometimes, a movie meets you where you're at, and where we're at this week is a silly, silly place. We dove into Luca Bercovici's 1985 American horror comedy film, Ghoulies. This movie is a LOT and we loved every second of it.Content warnings: goopy textures, brief clowns
Double-check the calendar and settle in— we watched Christopher Landon's 2017 black comedy slasher, Happy Death Day. This movie has all the makings of a good time, but does any of it pay off? Jaime works through the details while Eric tells us some cursed, cursed info. Content warnings: murder (duh), brief graphic depiction of suicide, parent death, threat of implied sexual assault. Show Notes: Evidence
Grab your closest friends and your biggest pair of clown shoes! It's time for Stephen Cognetti's.found footage favorite, Hell House LLC. This movie is frequently recommended for a reason; it scared the daylights outta us. Does it hold up plotwise? Would we actually watch this documentary? What happens in the sequels and do they star a handsome, scarred angel named Russel?! You'll have to listen to find out! Content Warnings: suicide, cult stuff, claustrophobia, crowds panicking, gore, and CLO...
Did you double-check the GPS? Weird, it looks like you're pulling up to an identical podcast episode...it's time for David Bruckner's psychological horror, The Night House! This movie has clever cinematography, a knock-out performance from Rebecca Hall, and a whole lot of problems. Eric and Jaime try to escape the maze of plot together. Content Warnings: This movie has unreality, mental health themes, psychosis, suicide, and brief strong moments of violence with vignettes of violent ima...
We're going to Wall Street, baby! Let's start the year off strong with Mary Harron's black comedy horror film, American Psycho (2000)! This satire on excess and privilege had a surprisingly scrappy production history. Eric revisits a classic while Jaime is continually surprised. American Psycho is a horror satire based on Bret Easton Ellis's 1991 novel of the same name and stars Christian Bale alongside Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, Justin Theroux, and Reese Witherspoon. The film bodes a&nbs...
