Description

We immerse ourselves in good conversations with friends - people with jaw dropping stories and expertise - about running and the world around it, general fitness, health, along with some random sh*t. We like sharing stories and experiences, inspire and have some fun along the way. This podcast is initiated by the Utrecht Running Project, a run crew based in the Netherlands. Sleeping while running, having a power bank for your watch in your backpack and burning nearly a week of calories is what Vasileios does for fun. He is an ultra marathon runner with distance like 40-160k in his pocket. During this episode we talk with him about how this ultra running fascination started, how he prepares physically and mentally, he tells us about some crazy events (we just say wild pig) and what is still on his running bucket list. Jeroen and Sjoerd from Plogging Utrecht collected more than 890kg of trash since June 2020 while running. That’s a lot of cigarette buds, plastic bags but especially energy cans. They told us how they started out plogging and how they professionalized to become Plogging Utrecht. We talked about trash rich neighbourhoods in Utrecht, catches of the day, waste management options and the change of consumer behaviour. This is the start of our new mini-series, in which we’re speaking to running crews around the world. The Sydney based running crew KXTC, or also Kings Cross Track Club, was our first guest, represented by their captain since the end of 2019, Ben Dwyer. He told us about the start of the crew, its values and intention to be an open and welcoming running community for “all speedsters, cruisers, lopers and dopers” while paying their tributes to indigenous people. We discussed the challenges and opportunities of keeping a community alive during COVID-19, but let’s stop here and find out yourself... James Morehen is an exceptional runner that probably still outruns the majority of us while not actively running since 2019. How? Many hours of training. During our interview with James we talked about his journey: delivering papers as a kid, squeezing double runs in as a stock broker until his best Marathon effort of 2:50:13 at 25 years that qualified him for the Boston Marathon. As a gift for this hard effort, he went on a training camp vacation in Kenya.
