In this episode, I interview Dr. Frank Benedetto about his experiences throughout his career in the medical field.  He touches on why he thinks our medical system sucks and what he is doing to improve it.  Frank is a board certified physical therapist and has experienced unfortunate situations, both personally and professionally.  He talks about these experiences, one of which was his father dying, and in his eyes due to lack of care and understanding through our medical system.  This led him to rely on substances to function.  The most inspiring thing about this interview is exactly what he did to get away from these substances and even more so, creating the Honeybadger project.  The Honeybadger Project is about helping individuals in the health field, doctors, PT's, trainers, coaches, dietitians, etc., take charge of their own careers and to not rely on insurance companies.  Frank keeps it real and if you can handle that, then this an episode you need to listen to, especially if you are a health professional. Frank also works with UFC and MMA fighters, so if you are someone in this field looking to build your business, this is the man to talk to. Blood Flow Restriction Training has attracted an increasing amount of attention in the last decade in the US. However, work has focused on rehabilitation from musculo-skeletal injuries and improvement in strength and fitness for Olympic and Professional athletes. It is recognized that regular exercise and good nutritional practice are the “medicines” for health and fitness. We can take the lessons from Olympians and incorporate them into our busy lives. We know that regular exercise mitigates the effects of many chronic diseases, but to do so, requires “doses” of exercise that many find impossible to do on a regular basis. Alas, there are a million reasons why we don’t incorporate regular exercise into our busy lives. BFR Training is well suited to providing “doable”, safe and effective, robust exercise in a short period of time (15 to 20 minutes), anywhere, anytime for all age groups. Regular BFR Training, with safe and effective equipment and protocols, is the solution for many of the chronic health problems of the nation. Leading BFR expert, Jim Stray-Gundersen, MD calls BFR “anti-aging” medicine. Over the past decade, Jim Stray-Gundersen, MD, has helped pioneer the use of, define the mechanisms of, and implement blood flow restriction training in the US and Europe. Stray-Gundersen saw first hand, the impact of the BFR Modality on the Olympians and the normal population he was training, for increasing power, strength, healing and recovery, improving bone density, improving lean body mass and a number of additional intricate physiologic improvements. Stray-Gundersen has done thousands of applications of BFR on various populations and is considered the leading medical doctor expert on BFR. He is co-founder and co-developer of B Strong Blood Flow Restriction Training Systems - a comprehensive BFR prodcut and training platform, that is based on Stray-Gundersen’s background and knowledge, designed for safety and efficacy for all populations to use to benefit from BFR mechanisms. Stray-Gundersen lectures and teaches/certifies Blood Flow Restriction Training Theory and Application to Physical Therapists, Medical Doctors, Chiropractors, Personal Trainers, Occupational Therapists, Professional Strength and Conditioning Coaches, members of the military and Special Forces, as well as the consumer. Stray-Gundersen has also dedicated his career to anti-doping, being the first to do invasive blood testing at the World Championships in Lahti, Finland, in 1989. He has worked with WADA, USADA and has developed the anti doping test called SAFE - SAFE and Fair Events iimplemented in 2002 Olympic Games, considered by some the most aggressive test to detect and deter doping in sport. Stray-Gundersen has served on international medical committees that include the International Olympic Committee, FIFA, International Biathlon Committee, International Ski Federation, the International Skating Union, and the International Cycling Federation Stray-Gundersen. He works with Special Forces, Marines, Army, Navy SEALs and currently serves as the sports science advisor for the US Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), and is the founder of the SG Performance Medicine Center in Park City, Utah.  B-Strong BFR Training Systems20% off at checkout with code: COACHU20 Coach U's InformationCoach U PodcastGolf Mobility AcademyBrand UCatch me on Instagram
About our guest!Today’s guest is Will Waterman, who is the Head of performance and sports science for Proteus Motion.  He has been in the training industry for over 10 years in some capacity, including as a physical therapist and a strength coach.  Will is also a former athlete, where he competed at a national level for olympic weightlifting, as well as cycling and triathlons. What is Proteus?TECHNOLOGY HAS REVOLUTIONIZED THE HEALTH & FITNESS INDUSTRY, BUT STRENGTH & POWER STILL CAN’T BE MEASURED EFFECTIVELY. WHY?Because to measure strength and power for movements you perform in real life, you need forces in 3 dimensions. Equipment like free weights and cable machines can only provide forces in 1 or 2 dimensions. To unlock the next revolution in human performance and fitness technology requires a total reinvention of resistance training.Click to find out more --> Proteus MotionWill WatermanPT, DPT, OCS, PRC, COMT, CSCSWill Waterman is currently the Head of Performance and Sports Science at Proteus Motion.  Today’s episode features an awesome conversation I had with Dr. Craig Liebenson.  As you will come to find out, Dr. Liebenson is the director of LA sport and spine and he is the co-founder of first principles of movement.  Dr. Liebenson has a very curious mind, which is why I had to have him on for an interview. Our conversation revolves around human movement and health.  In this interview, we discuss how people get caught up in defending their biases or methods, why hurt doesn’t always equal harm, why coaches, doctors and trainers need to be agile, and why you need to gamify your training.  Dr. Liebenson has a very curious mind and follows a set of principles in order to help every client/patient, or student.  I love the way he approaches movement and overall human health.  Here are some big bullet points from our conversation- we don’t have all the answers, but we have the principles- finding the safe starting place- finding things they have trouble with = goals- wear and repair: bioplasticity- you need some stress- flares are part of the game- it’s easy to give people what they want but my job is to give them what they needDr. Liebenson's InformationInstagramFirst Principles of MovementLA Sport & Spinelinktr.eeCoach U's InformationCatch me on InstagramCoach U PodcastGolf Mobility AcademyBrand UFree Content on YouTube!#psychology #philosophy #life #uplifting #coaching #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mental #communication #communicate #love #learn #learning

Flip the script from a negative thought process to see the positives.  This is a science and just like working out, you need to push your limits and your capacity to train.  Start by being aware of your thoughts and then see which ones are negative.  See how many of those you can pull a positive from.  Remember, we can always learn something from every situation.Coach UCoach U's InformationGolf Mobility AcademyBrand UCatch me on InstagramFree Content on YouTube!
S2 E9: Honor U

S2 E9: Honor U

2021-08-1002:15

Honor U  We all have dreams and imaginations.  It’s part of the human experience.  We often associate dreams with fantasy and not often reality.  But we can bring our dreams to life.  If we shut down our dreams, we shut down who we are and what we have to give back to the world.   So why do we let our dreams wash away?  Why do we not take the limited amount of time on this planet and push towards what speaks to us internally?  What stops us?  We do.  Every single one of us is guilty of this. The problem I ran into is I was not doing things that fully aligned with me.  I would start a project with excitement, then I just quit.  I was constantly focused on things I was good at, but not what drove me. The act of starting and stopping kept me feeling stuck and unsure of who I was, and even more so clouded my own self image.  It’s amazing how we let the external world dictate our decisions.  We get so caught up in the worry of what others think, what others will say.  The truth is, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks or says.  It really means nothing.    No one will ever know or understand our own experience.  That is why it is crucial that no matter what you do in life, you honor U.I define honoring U by firstly taking a look at what matters to U.  What do you love to do?  You  love to write?  You love to go fishing?  You love to paint?  Whatever it is, make it part of your life.  Getting away from who we are and what we love can be easy when we are taught to follow the herd.  Do not dim your light.  Shine that light brighter than ever.    Pull over for a second and look at your roadmap.  If you have felt lost or like you took a wrong turn, you don’t need to turn around, because that is the past.  You can take a look back to see what worked, but ultimately you need to focus on the now and what drives U because if you don’t, that piece of you will always be lost.  How do you know what drives you?  Write about it.  Think about your common things in life.  What comes up a lot?  What do you often think about?  What makes you smile inside and outside?  What gives you natural energy?  What adds value to your life? If we do not honor ourselves, no one else will be able to share in what we have to offer to this world and we all have something to give.  Coach U's InformationGolf Mobility AcademyBrand UCatch me on InstagramFree Content on YouTube!
Creativity runs through all of us but the problem is that we often are the first ones to shut down our ideas before they even get out into the world.  So my conversation today is with one of the most creative and talented people I know.  Jason Lautenschleger, the VP of Development for Adam Levine’s 222 Productions and Founder of Barry & Jason Games and Entertainment and he tells his story about what it's like to be an entrepreneur and the trials he faced while building multiple businesses.   We take a dive into multiple topics including: how to deal with the overwhelm, what do to when you feel stuck, making your default setting a positive mindset vs jumping straight to negativity, how to take ownership and many more topics to help you find peace in your process.  You do not want to miss this episode.  Jason is an entertainer by heart and loves to share his wisdom.  You will walk away with something learned!  Jason's Contact InfoBarry and Jason Games and Ent.InstagramBOOKSThe Happiness AdvantageYou Are a Badass at Making MoneyThe Power of HabitCoach U's InformationGolf Mobility AcademyBrand UCatch me on InstagramFree Content on YouTube!
This interview is with Jarrett Johnson who has been a friend for 10 years now.  He is a grammy nominated singer/arranger.  Above all else, he is one of the kindest and wisest people I have had the pleasure of meeting.  We dive into how to find your light because we all have one, but far too often we have been told to dim it, keep it shut off and never attempt to try to light it.  That's not the life of fulfillment.  The life of fulfillment starts from within and getting to know U is the number one thing to do.  Listen in as we talk about how and why Jarrett became a singer and what he has learned along the way.  Ever felt stuck in your career?  Or maybe you are looking around and noticing other people "doing more" than you?  We discuss how comparison to another persons life doesn't lead you anywhere.  You will leave this episode ready to take on whatever life throws your way because U know you are in charge and U have a light, U just have to find it and use it!Coach UP.S. There is no such thing as a dumb question, but why do we constantly hold ourselves back from asking questions?  From my experience, it was because I felt DUMB.  Listen in as I break down how we can see our patterns and experiences as learning tools to help us understand that asking questions actually gives us value. The more curious we are about everything we do, the better we get to know ourselves and the better plan we can make to help ourselves evolve into who we are.  Tune in to hear my experience about a conversation about trying new things and how that sparked this whole episode.Brand UCatch me on InstagramFree Content on YouTube! If you are interested in the Golf Mobility Program, please email me directly at Coachu@coachustrong.com
