The National Theatre of Scotland is a theatre without walls set up 15 years ago to make exceptional, audacious, collaborative theatre that represents the complexity of modern Scotland, and to take that theatre to communities and to the world.Jackie has been its Artistic Director since 2016. Before that she founded Take Me Somewhere, a Glasgow wide international performance festival based at the Tramway. In this episode writer and producer David Micklem talks to Tania El Khoury. Tania is a live artist based in London and Beirut. Over 15 years she has created a body of  interactive installations and performances in which the audience is an active collaborator. Her solo work has been translated into multiple languages and shown in 32 countries. She is the recipient of the International Live Art Prize, the Total Theatre Innovation Award and the Arches Brick Award. She has recently been announced as Distinguished Artist in Residence of Theater and Performance at Bard College in upstate New York.In this episode Tania talks about how she seeks revenge through her art – for the corruption and crises in Lebanese politics, and for the huge blast on 4th August that destroyed much of the capital, Beirut. She describes her experience of this tragedy and how the trauma of being born and growing up in a civil war has made her who she is. Through a 20 year collaboration, Farooq has built a company that has provided the optimum conditions for Akram’s development as an artist. He’s built a complex web of relationships and partnerships right across the world, blurring boundaries between cultures, artforms and styles of presentation. He’s also the founder of Skye Blue Productions which nurtures younger artists of colour, and he’s the CEO and Creative Director for China House Arts in London.Last year he was awarded an OBE for his services to Dance and Dance Production and was appointed a Tate Artist Trustee. In his 60th year, we find him contemplating possible futures for arts and culture in the UK.
