When leaders encourage their team to “switch off” they don’t always realise it can be demotivating and inaccessible. For many, the idea of switching off is actually daunting. Like a void of space and time that could be used to be making a difference.  Also, you’re not a lightbulb. You don’t have an on and off switch. It’s not that black and white. The best thing you can do is learn to go from “on” to “recharge.”This is what we discussed in the episode with Dr Cassandra Goldie, CEO of the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS). Role clarity. It seems so simple it’d be easy to miss. Leaders are often looked to as experts. But they’re not. The strongest leaders surround themselves with experts, which means, you don’t know the answer a lot of the time. When leaders feel like they should know, they miss the opportunity to invite their team to step into their strengths, rally around you, draw out their skills and talents to solve the problem in ways you couldn’t imagine. This is what vulnerability looks like practically, at the highest levels of leadership. This is what we discussed with Alex Badenoch, Telstra’s former Group Executive – Transformation, Communication and People on our Leading Generous Teams podcast this week.Known for her change management skills and ability to deliver strong commercial outcomes across various executive positions, Alex has designed and implemented key initiatives to drive successful change across multiple organisations. In this episode, we discuss:How Alex fuels and engages teams and amplifies performance and outcomesWhat vulnerability looks like practically, at the highest levels of leadershipInsights into techniques for resetting + recharging leadershipLinks: If you'd like to talk about how our programs can support your team's resilience, fuel their confidence or help them get unstuck, book some time in my diary and let’s chat. Inherited a team that is stuck in old ways of thinking + working? The ol’ “Hire for attitude, train for skill,” doesn’t cut it anymore. We’ve all heard the saying “Hire for attitude, train for skill,” and that’s nice, but how often do you get to build a team from scratch? More often than not, our teams are a patchwork of other people’s decisions and history. So when you inherit a team, the “hiring for attitude” ship has sailed. In this episode we discuss:Why this happensWhy it’s important to train for attitude? How to get some complimentary resources + invite to help you with this Links: If you'd like to talk about how our programs can support your team's resilience, fuel their confidence or help them get unstuck, book some time in my diary and let’s chat. Hope. It’s usually reserved for 11th hour miracles and when you’ve surrendered to exhausting all options.Broad hopeful thinking doesn’t create change however, used strategically, hope can supercharge your bigger picture and your energy on a daily basis. That’s what I discussed with Dermot O'Gorman, CEO of World Wildlife Fund on our Leading Generous Teams podcast this week. Dermot is a global sustainable development leader with 25 years’ experience in envisioning, ideating, and implementing solutions to protect wildlife and the environment. He has worked with WWF for more than two decades, serving as the CEO of WWF-Australia, WWF-Pacific, and WWF-China  and several board positions, including the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID).  Following the devastating bushfires of 2019-20, he oversaw the launch of the largest wildlife and landscape regeneration program in the nation’s history, Regenerate Australia.  In this episode, we discuss: How Dermot O'Gorman fuels and engages his team, even during changeInsights into techniques for resetting + recharging leadershipHow he circuit breaks to bring more hope to his leadershipNever miss an episode…Hit subscribe now to never miss an interview or bonus episode. One of the biggest lessons for people working in leadership and for-purpose roles is the need to be able to navigate uncertainty and work within ambiguity. The stock standard advice is to learn how to get comfortable during change. But that’s outdated thinking. The landscape has shifted and we’re living in a constant state of change. Rather than wanting to get comfortable, it’s time to get confident during change. That’s what I discussed with Sasha Courville, Chief Impact Officer of Bank Australia on our Leading Generous Teams podcast this week. Sasha has spent decades working on international social justice and environmental sustainability issues as an academic, consultant, director, corporate executive and in many more roles as you’ll hear.Sasha was deeply involved in setting up the Fairtrade labeling system in Australia and New Zealand and was a post director for theUN Global Compact Network Australia.
