Built to Serve talks to acclaimed social entrepreneur Abby Falik about entrepreneurship, leadership, and Global Citizen Year, the nonprofit she founded, which she refers to as “the culmination of her life’s work.” Abby has been profiled by the New York Times, Washington Post, and the Chronicle of Philanthropy, Goldman Sachs named her one of 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs, and Fast Company named her one of the 100 Most Creative People.
Our discussion today is with Jerry Hawkins, the Executive Director of Dallas Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation. DTRHT’s mission is to create a radically inclusive city by addressing race and racism through narrative change, relationship building and equitable policies and practices. Our conversation takes us to Jerry’s early years in Chicago and his start in the non-profit space. It weaves in how his artistic, scholarly and historical interests intersect with his experience of being a black leader in the non profit space to influence how he leads and supports his organization today.  Brian Joseph, the Founder of RevJen joins our conversation as well.

Gerald Chertavian, the Founder and CEO of Year Up joins us to talk about his organization and his twenty-year leadership journey in the nonprofit sector.  Year Up's mission is to close the Opportunity Divide by ensuring that young adults gain the skills, experiences, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through careers and higher education. In Gerald’s own words: “Our goal isn’t to just build bridges, it’s to close divides. We don’t want young people to have to walk over bridges because of inequity and social injustice”. Brian Joseph, the Founder of RevJen joins our conversation as well.   
Joining us today is Alejandro Gibes de Gac, the Founder and CEO of Springboard Collaborative. Springboard Collaborative is a nonprofit that helps address the summer learning loss through parent engagement. Alejandro talks about his own experience as the son of immigrants for whom education was a significant priority and how he had to fall in love with the problem to create a scalable solution.  Also joining the conversation today is Brian Joseph, the Founder of RevJen.
