Description

It's no secret that diversity is the spice of life, yet only 5% of companies are minority-led, despite making up 15% of the UK's population. Often the only Asian woman in the room at conferences and classrooms, I decided to share insights so that others can glimpse at the world through a different lens. Covering a wide range of subjects such as art, business, mental health and race, A Journey Shared implores listeners to learn with an open mind, whilst aiding in my journey of healing from c-PTSD.New episodes are released every second Wednesday of the month. Naomi Hoang is a Tattoo Artist and founder of NAOHOA Luxury Bespoke Tattoos, with experience in the gaming industry as an Illustrator and Concept Artist.

I've decided to split the podcast into two, so my personal story and journey of healing from c-PTSD is in Season 01, then everything else is in Season 02+. I'm looking forward to discussing important topics and interviewing people to learn more about their culture and upbringing. 03: Depression

2021-01-0814:00

This episode explores the turbulent, relentless rollercoaster of living with Depression. Mine went on for the best part of a decade, with particularly bad spells lasting months on end. Everyone's experience is different, though I hope my story brings some comfort to those going through this, and understanding to the lucky ones who aren't.I sought professional aid after a bout of Labrynthitis tipped me over the edge, resulting in months of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), which helped immensely.Warning: Refers to self harm and suicidal thoughts.——————Helpful Content: Keeping a Calm Mind Mind Over Matter Mental Health Awareness Week 2020(NHK) Medical Frontiers: Understanding Depression (28min documentary)SuperbetterHosted and edited by Naomi Hoang.Music by Yaiza Varona. If you find value in this podcast, please consider sharing with others, leaving a review and/or make a donation (page also includes affiliate links).Thank you for your support,NaomiSupport the show
02: Teen Years

02: Teen Years

2020-11-1045:24

This episode highlights the struggles and pressures of adhering to multiple, opposing cultures and how lapses in logic - teamed with mob mentality - condenses already difficult challenges, such as racism. ---------Mentioned:The Bottom Line: In psychology, the Bottom Line describes the core - if not simplified - belief that is normally formed during childhood, based on their experiences and surroundings. This 'core belief' sticks with us throughout our lives, influencing our actions and decisions. If it's negative, then it can lead to unhealthy or unhelpful behaviour that further perpetuate this belief (e.g., "I'm not good enough"), thus becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. Unless identified and challenged, negative Bottom Line(s) continue to affect one's life - for better or for worse. This is explained clearly and with many examples by Dr. Melanie Fennell, in her book, "Overcoming Low Self-Esteem" (contains affiliate link. I think adults often underestimate what can affect a child and their world view. In this episode, I share my childhood experiences regarding race and privilege, whilst exploring how growing up with two different cultures affected how I saw myself.Mentioned:5 Love Languages, Dr. Gary Chapman https://www.5lovelanguages.com/Hosted and edited by Naomi Hoang.Music by Yaiza Varona. If you find value in this podcast, please consider sharing with others, leaving a review and/or make a donation.Thank you for your support,NaomiSupport the show
