The Hollywood Musical Composing Industry is very difficult to access, especially as a female immigrant. To survive in the male-dominated industry, it requires Passion, tenacity, vision, and dedication. "There have been steps in the right direction, but still, it's one industry vocation where women are most under-represented," says Penka Kouneva, a Bulgarian Emmy nominated female composer in Hollywood.Once granted access, then comes the dilemma of finding consistent work. Identity and culture play a pivotal role in the entertainment world. Mexican native, Arthur Marroquin discusses how his Caucasian appearance impacts his experience in Hollywood. "My culture means a lot to me, and I sometimes forget about it because I'm so far away from it," says Arthur.
