Sam Wilson didn't know anything as a child about the neuroplasticity or resilience of the brain but she did know that spending time with friends laughing and being out in nature created safe spaces in which to recover and process the challenges she faced at home due to family addiction.Inspired to attend college by friends with a more conventional childhood, Sam realized that she had a fascination with how the brain works - not just with addiction, but in all aspects. Over time her deepening interest led to multiple degrees in psychology and neuropsychology, along with earning her board certification in clinical social work.Sam jumped into a career of service, working at first in various intense situations including Child Welfare Services and the prison system. When another person close to her began to struggle with addiction, Sam found herself again in the grip of overwhelm and despair. It's a real dilemma for a lot of female business owners.Catherine Watkin recognized this situation and understood that, with her background & experience, she could teach women to develop a real comfort with sales.  As a U.K. expert in Heart-Centered Sales, she teaches heart-centered business owners worldwide how to get more clients saying, "Yes!" by showing them how to have conversations that feel authentic and congruent.Catherine has built an amazing & highly successful membership program where she helps heart-centered businesses make, in her words, 'the difference they are here to make, by helping them become comfortable in sales.'In today's interview we dig deep into how Catherine developed her expertise. Moms feel frustrated at times by the invisible emotional labor of motherhood; weighed down by a heaviness that comes with managing the emotions of other people in their family along with performing hundreds of tiny tasks and chores that keep the household running. This kind of repetitive, under-acknowledged labor can be as simple as noticing when the dishwasher needs emptying or remembering to buy your child's favorite kind of peanut butter because you saw the jar was nearly empty. It can be recognizing that your child is exhausted or had a hard day, and needs to talk about it on the drive home from school. It might look like breaking up an argument between two siblings and mediating between them; but then needing to manage your own emotions later in the evening because you're exhausted after dealing with their big emotions all day.In this week's podcast episode, host and certified life coach Andrea Morton digs into this important topic and then provides several concrete, actionable strategies to help parents lift & balance the weight of their emotional labor.Need some coaching feedback about your own life?
