Description

Since 2002, Taxi Studio has helped brands embrace a philosophy of ‘Fearless Creativity’. But. Fearlessness in today's world needs to be more than just being brave, as bravery can be reckless and overwhelming. Fear doesn’t always need to be the bad guy, and if we understand it a little more, we can work out how we can manage it and get the very best out of it. The BeMore.FearLess.™ Open Up. Podcast Series takes a deeper look into this innate human mechanism we call fear, by exploring first-hand experiences through the five stages of fear we go through when faced with a threat; imagination, fear, paralysis, acceleration, and memories. Hosted by Taxi Studio’s Creative Partner & Founder Alex Bane, he talks to Writer, Actor & Comedian Steve Furst, Kelly Oakley; NHS Ward Sister, Steven Crompton; Ultra-Athlete & Philanthropist, Bestselling Author & Entrepreneur Ollie Ollerton, & Spiros Margaris; VC, Ranked Global No. 1 Fintech, AI, Blockchain & No. 2 InsurTech Influencer by Onalytica.

Fear Stage 5: Memories. Fear is our inbuilt survival mechanism. If we did not experience fear, we would not live very long. It stops us picking up snakes that might bite us, walking down a dodgy looking street or, from making the same mistakes that have hurt us in the past. We curate a brain bank of inherent memories to protect us from situations that could cause us trouble in the future. Spiros Margaris is a venture capitalist, futurist and keynote speaker and senior advisor. He is founder of Margaris Ventures and is the first international influencer to achieve ‘The Triple Crown’ ranking  Global No. 1 Fintech, AI, Blockchain & No. 2 InsurTech Influencer by Onalytica. He regularly appears in the top three positions of established local industry influencer rankings.
Fear Stage 4: Acceleration. Acceleration occurs when we harness our fears rather than become debilitated by them. For some, the best outcome is to run, but for others, they must overcome. We try to wrestle back some sense of control and allow our reasoning, logic, and creativity to take the lead. We turn negatives into positives, using the energy that once stopped us to propel us forward. Ollie Ollerton is a former UK Special Forces Solider and directing staff from Chanel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins and is a cornerstone of the team that brought the Special Forces into the public eye. Ollie is committed to talking about his personal experiences and turning them into a force for good. As well as publishing two best-selling books, he is also CEO of BREAK-POINT, an organisation for both public and corporate that focuses on changing peoples limiting beliefs and performance.
Stage 3: Paralysis. For many, facing your fear can bring on physical and mental paralysis. Even if it’s fleeting, it’s immobilising. The brain shuts down, and the body can’t shift. The fear is so consuming you can’t think your way out of it and must wait for the moment to pass. Then we can determine how we need to respond; to fight or flight. Overcoming extreme adversity as a child and young adult has given Steven Crompton a passion for business and philanthropy. A passion for running start-ups that improve lives to running 6,500 miles across Africa to raise money for those start-ups. Steven epitomises someone who has achieved, through exceptional hard-work, both physical and mental strength. Flight was almost the path he took, but he stayed for the fight. Fighting for those who cannot fight for themselves, doing everything in his power to stop his history, repeating itself for others.
Stage 2: Fear. This is when we confront (either self-initiated or when forced on us) our fear head-on. Our System 1 part of our brain kicks in; where experience, speed, and intuition take precedence. Fear moves beyond the brain into the body; our hands might sweat, our heart beats faster, we might shake - our subconscious autopilot is in control.Kelly Oakley is a Sister on a busy Acute Stroke Unit. She has nearly twenty years’ experience working for the NHS – with the last six months being during a global pandemic and the added complexities that this has brought. After graduating from University with a degree in Adult Nursing she initially worked in Medical Admissions, caring for patients with a broad range of conditions before moving into the more specialist area of Neurology. Her current role involves providing care to Stroke patients and their families as well as mentoring the team of Nurses and Healthcare Assistants that she works alongside.
Stage 1: Imagination. When we first experience fear, we imagine all the possibilities of what could go wrong. We get wrapped up in exaggerated expectations of future consequences. Irrational thought and imagination replace logic. We analyse every part of what surrounds the fear, potentially working it up to be a greater threat in our minds than it is in reality - trying to convince us that avoidance could be the best tactic. In this weeks episode we will be talking to Steve Furst; Writer, Actor and Comedian. Steve has been well known to British screens and radio over the past 20 years, including his character Lenny Beige on BBC’s Variety Pack and a regular feature in the series of Little Britain. He is also a seasoned West End star, playing Mr Wormwood in Matilda for over 600 shows, part of the original cast of Made in Dagenham and last year played the titular role in Mr Gum and the Dancing Bar at the National Theatre.
