Jodi Newland, Executive Director of Daniel’s Grace Charitable Foundation sits with Patricia and Ashley to discuss why she created the foundation, and how it is helping cancer patients. After being diagnosed with terminal colon cancer, and receiving help from people around the country,  her husband, Daniel Burns, realized how important it is to help others and not always put yourself first.  This weighed heavily on him, as he knew he would never be able to repay the kindness he’d received. After Daniel passed, Jodi decided to take steps to honor his last wishes, and created Daniel’s Grace Charitable Foundation.Daniel’s Grace Charitable Foundation helps with the financial struggles that families quite often face when dealing with a cancer diagnosis.  Most people don‘t realize that 40% of dread winners lose their entire life’s savings during the first two years of battling cancer. When the family loses their bread winner’s ability to earn, the battles become much more difficult.Through a social worker, or nurse navigator, patients can apply to the foundation.  The foundation  then helps identify the family’s greatest financial needs ie: rent, utilities etc, and aids the family in bridging the gap.Beyond the financial help, Daniel’s Grace Charitable Foundation supports the emotional aspect of this disease.  Through the Little Red Mailbox, people can spread messages of hope and support. This special,  red mailbox is located in Little Island Park in Sandbridge, and is open to anyone wanting to lend  support or needing to receive or positive messages. There is also a journal in the mailbox where people can write about experiences for others to read.Daniel’s Grace Foundation also sponsors events such as the Concert for Cancer and the Annual Roast on the River. For More Information:danielsgrace.orgFacebook: danielsgracevaInstagram: danielsgracefoundationTo watch this week’s entire episode of Living 757, click here! And if you would like to see someone featured on the show, please send a message to Share@Living757.com and you may just see them here soon!

Frank Cubillo was born in Brooklyn, NY, so it is understandable that one of his strongest musical influences would be ‘Ol Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra. After a long (38 years) career in the Marines, Frank Cubillo decided to completely change his career path and become a full-time musician. While his wife may have been surprised at first, she supported him in his wishes and has enjoyed the ride. What is it about Frank Sinatra that captivates everyone? Cubillo explains that the perfectly written music was so well put together that it has become timeless. The romantic lyrics and the beautiful melodies take hold of everyone who listens.Cubillo is not only a fantastic singer, he is quite a dancer as well. During his performances, it is not uncommon to see him pull a lovely lady out of the audience and take a turn with her on the dance floor. But reading about Frank Sings Frank does not do him justice. Check out the segment to see and hear him in action. For More Information:franksingsfrank.com/Facebook: profile.phpInstagram: franksingsfrankTo watch this week’s entire episode of Living 757, click here! And if you would like to see someone featured on the show, please send a message to Share@Living757.com and you may just see them here soon!
Ever hear of “The One That Got Away?”Well, this fish tale just happens to be true, and it happened right here in the 757. Josiah and Zeek VanFleet went out on what would be an “ordinary” fishing trip – or so they thought. They were very excited as they had just become the proud owners of their very own boat, and were ready to test it out in the open water. They were ready to fish and were not disappointed when they felt a strong bite. After a 2 1/2 hour fight, this beast was captured and hauled into the boat. It took 7 men all their strength, along with the help of a big wave, to pull this massive creature into the boat. How massive was it? Well, this bad boy was estimated to weigh about 1,000 pounds – that’s a lot of sandwiches! In an unfortunate twist of fate, the scales at the marina were broken, so the exact weight and whether or not this bluefin tuna broke any fishing record will never be known. What we do know, however is that this whale of a tale has forever made its mark on Zeek and his dad Josiah, and the rest of the VanFleet family. To watch this week’s entire episode of Living 757, and see the photos of the massive tuna, click here! And if you would like to see someone featured on the show, please send a message to Share@Living757.com and you may just see them here soon!

Ashely and Quincy got some great safety tips for working in their yards.Spring if finally here, and if you’re like us, you are ready to hop outside and do some planting. But….safety first!  Before you go digging around in your yard, check out what Natalie Soucie from Virginia 811 had to say. What we don’t know or typically think about is the fact that there is a “highway” of underground utilities in your yard.  As you can imagine, a metal shovel digging into an electrical system, can have “hair raising” consequences. So…before you start on any of your yard projects where digging is involved, Virginia 811 asks you to dig with C.A.R.E.Contact Va811.com -Just go to VA811.com  and submit a dig request.Allow time (3 business days) for them to contact utility members to come out and mark your property. The check to see that they have come out.Respect the markings that are made in your yard.  Your utility is within 2 feet on each side of the mark, so you don’t want heavy machinery or deep digging there..  Green lines are sewer lines, yellow lines are gas lines and red lines are your electric/power line.   Excavate carefully so you don’t disturb underground utilities! Once you finish your work then you can ENJOY finishing your spring planting and beautiful garden.Taking CARE will keep you safe while you’re making your yard look beautiful!  Added bonus -your neighbors won’t get upset because you knocked out the power for the block! For More Information:www.va811.comFacebook: VA811Instagram: 811ofva/Twitter: va_811To watch this week’s entire episode of Living 757, click here! And if you would like to see someone featured on the show, please send a message to Share@Living757.com and you may just see them here soon!
After a year of virtual learning, kids all over the country are excited about heading back to school.  Kim Teixeira, Owner of Sylvan Learning Centers in Chesapeake and Suffolk, joined our crew to discuss how to help our kids prepare fro the transition back to in-person learning. While some kids have excelled at online learning, for many others it has been a struggle filled with frustration and stress. In fact, a new trend termed “the Covid learning loss” shows how many children have lost some of the information skills that they have needed to build on (similar to what happens during the long summer break) in order to be successful in the upcoming standardized tests.Sylvan Learning Centers is a prescriptive learning program which partners with parents in order to identify and help strengthen students’ weaknesses. This helps relieve anxiety, build confidence which aids greatly, especially during the upcoming  SOL tests. If your children are not going back virtually, they can still benefit greatly from working with Sylvan to assess their progress, any issues or difficult areas they may have, and help strengthen any weak areas. So, if you are concerned about how to help your child be more successful in school, relieve anxiety, or you just want to make sure they are on the right track, make sure to give Kim at Sylvan Learning Centers of Chesapeake and Suffolk a call at (757) 447-3690.For More Information:sylvanlearning.com/us/Chesapeake-vahttps://www.facebook.com/SylvanLearningTo watch this week’s entire episode of Living 757, click here! And if you would like to see someone featured on the show, please send a message to Share@Living757.com and you may just see them here soon!
Favorite Local Day Trips or Weekend Getaway? Here’s one…. Cape Charles, Virginia.Only about an hour’s drive from Hampton Roads, you will truly feel like you are “away” from the everyday world.  The drive over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is beautiful, as is the wide-open spaces along Route 13 as you drive north up the Eastern Shore.A perfect day trip for me to Cape Charles involves a few “must have stops” along the way. Typically, I drive to the farthest stop north in the trip and make my way back towards home as the day progresses.Listen for all of the great suggestions!Like we always say, Safety First!  Before you hop in your car – make sure it is road ready.  Our friends at AAA Car Care Center are always ready to help you get safely on the road and off to your new adventure. For More Road Trippin in the 757 check out the following:Road Trippin in the 757 Heads to Currituck CountyRoad Trippin in the 757 Checks Out 6 Sits Commemorating African American History in ChesapeakeTo watch this week’s entire episode of Living 757, click here! And if you would like to see someone featured on the show, please send a message to Share@Living757.com and you may just see them here soon!

We knew we needed some more information about this fantastic at home ionic detox, so we asked Rebekah a few more questions:How often do you recommend doing this sort of detox? We recommend a 60min detox twice a month for a great flush and metabolism booster. Why is this type of detox done through the feet? The ionic foot cleanse is a holistic therapy known as aqua chi foot bath in Traditional Chinese Medicine and it works to balance the energy flow, replenish our cells and promote alkaline health. Our feet have glands that are connected to other parts of our body and are able to detox through secretion. This is similar to our skin, tongue and armpits. How long does the detox take?A detox session can range from minimum 30min or maximum of 90min per day.Do clients need to prepare in any way prior to doing the detox? We highly recommend drinking a lot of water before your cleanse and prepare to get rest afterwards. After the detox, is there anything you need to avoid? You should avoid dehydration, overexertion, fatty or acidic foods as well as alcohol.Should you drink more water prior to or after doing a detox? Yes, you should drink lots of water both before and after your session.Do you think you will continue to provide the home detox as a service once everything opens back up? Yes we anticipate offering it post-Covid.Although our at-home rental has become popular due to safety measures, it’s also favored as a family experience that includes unlimited detox spa treatments during your rental period. A win-win for all!For More information:detoxdandy.comFacebook: detoxdandyInstagram:detoxdandyTikTok: detoxdandyTo watch this week’s entire episode of Living 757, click here! And if you would like to see someone featured on the show, please send a message to Share@Living757.com and you may just see them here soon!
