Steve Phillip has used his lived experience from losing his son to suicide to prevent other families from that trauma through setting up the Jordan Legacy CIC.Our guest on this week's podcast is Steve Phillips for over 20 years he has been a successful consultant, trainer and keynote speaker in the world of sales and marketing, when on December 4th 2019, he received a call that would change his life – his son Jordan had taken his own life.Faced with the choice of either sitting on a sofa with a bottle or creating something to prevent other families from having to experience the trauma of losing a loved one to suicide, Steve chose the latter.   With a LinkedIn following of more than 21,000 people, his articles and posts have engaged a global audience of millions. In Episode 7, Tom Riordan, CEO of Leeds City Counsil, talks about the importance of transparent leadership, breaking down barriers and learning from others with lived experience.Tom has been Chief Executive of Leeds City Council since 2010 and during this time has overseen £300m of efficiencies across the organisation and a significant transformation of the city, which is halfway through a £10bn investment pipeline. Plans are set to double the size and economic impact of the city centre through regeneration of the South Bank, one of the largest city centre regeneration and growth initiatives in Europe. Tom’s top priority is for the city’s growth to be inclusive with a key ambition of reducing health inequalities and improving the health of the poorest the fastest.  In 2018, Tom led the regional bid that secured the new Channel 4 headquarters in Leeds bringing over 300 new jobs and unlocking growth in Yorkshire and the North East. Tom is leading the city’s participation in the Boston MIT global programme which will drive innovation and enterprise across the region, and played a key role in securing and running the 2014 Grand Depart of the Tour de France in Yorkshire. Tom has come full-circle from a North Yorkshire state education, via Oxford University, a Civil Service fast-stream career in international environmental policy and then leading the Regional Development Agency Yorkshire Forward.  Leeds City Council won the MJ’s Council of the Year award in 2016 and was named Digital Council of the Year in the 2019 Digital Leaders 100 awards. For his commitment to the region, Tom was awarded Yorkshire Man of the Year 2017 and most recently CBE for services to local government in the 2020 New Year’s Honours. He is also a trustee on the Centre for Cities Board, and the Council's mental health champion. Tom is a Trustee of the Centre for Cities, chairs the Leeds Academic Health Partnership and has held various roles promoting local and central government engagement, including devising the local COVID contain framework during the pandemic.
Chris Sutton is a Leadership Partnerships Manager within Children and Families Directorate at Leeds City Council.  Chris led the council’s peer to peer support group, Healthy Minds, for 3 ½ years, exponentially increasing the membership of the group along with the Corporate Leadership Team’s focus on mental wellbeing. Outside of work, Chris has started his own podcast called Mental Conversations, where he takes a light hearted look at some of the challenges of trying to make ourselves mentally healthy.Phoebe is on the Leeds City Council Graduate Programme and currently works in the Child Friendly Leeds Team within the Children and Families Directorate. Phoebe is very passionate about mental health, due to her personal experience with her Bipolar and PTSD diagnoses. Consequently, she founded and was President of an award winning mental health campaigning society at university, called UKC Student Minds. After joining the council, Phoebe became a member of the Healthy Minds Steering Group, before becoming one of the Vice Chairs. She has since become a certified mental health first aider. 
Oli attended the first ever ANDYSMANCLUB meeting in 2016, and since then his life have gone from strength to strength. Today, Oli is a Project Development Worker for  ANDYSMANCLUB. He has a vision of making their services available to every man, in every town and city accross the UK.  The changes he has seen in himself, he has seen in others that have come to the club, and wants every man who needs this support to be able to experience it. 
The second episode in our series, Claire talks to Beverley Peace, Group Compliance Director of Bradford based HB Projects. Beverley Peace is Group Compliance Director at national construction company HB Projects, serving on its board of Directors. She has worked in Health & Safety for over 25 years and is constantly exploring opportunities for business, employees’ or her own self-development. Beverley’s core professional belief is trust and she truly cares about work and the people she works with.  This belief, and her passion for people, has led her to work tirelessly to ensure that health and wellbeing is a key focus area within the business.
