This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is letting listeners know the tips and tricks to looking good on Zoom. Her guest is Marsha Redmon, a communications expert and CEO of LexTrack Directories Software. Marsha works with lawyers and executives on communication, business development training, and marketing. In this week’s episode, Marsha shares her story, and insights for High Wire Women on improving their virtual presence.  You’ll hear Rosanna and Marsha talk about: The most important thing about virtual presence and communication is that you need to be good at it, Marsha claims. She firmly believes that the workplace will never go back to being 100% in-person, so it’s necessary for people to master their skills in virtual communication going forward. Looking into the camera makes your audience feel like they’re having a one-on-one conversation with you, which builds your relationship with them. Overhead lighting is ideal - underhead lighting casts shadows around your face and makes you look old. Furthermore, it’s better to have light shining toward your face rather than behind you; the latter shrouds your face in darkness, and your audience will be unable to read your expressions. Sometimes, you don’t have a lot of options when it comes to places to have a virtual call in. In these cases, it’s best to try to minimize your audience’s view of your background as much as possible. You can also try unconventional places like a closet. Virtual backgrounds are, more often than not, more distracting than a messy one. Great lighting and a clean background are the most necessary components for a professional virtual presence.  Resources Rosanna Berardi | LinkedIn Rosanna Berardi | Berardi Immigration Law High Wire Woman Marsha Redmon | LinkedIn - Twitter Marsha Redmon | On the Web
This week The High Wire Woman is pleased to offer you a replay of one of our popular episodes from last year: How Much Stuff Do You Truly Need. As many of us are considering the post-winter spring clean, it's the time of year to consider what we want taking up space in our lives. Please enjoy this replay, and we'll be back with a new episode next week Rosanna Berardi is talking about material things versus interpersonal relationships. In this era of consumerism, it’s easy to get swept away focusing on the gifting part of Christmas instead of what it’s truly about: spending time with your loved ones and sharing experiences together. You’ll hear Rosanna talk about: How we remember and cherish experiences more than material things. She talks about the trips her family has been on together, and how fond those memories are. The instant gratification we’re familiar with. We no longer have to wait for anything, so the holidays and gift giving aren’t as meaningful as they once were. Rosanna emphasizes the importance of gratitude. Rosanna’s craving for deep and meaningful relationships over material things. She urges listeners to remember the spirit of the holidays and identify what Christmas means to them. Resources Rosanna Berardi | LinkedIn Rosanna Berardi | Berardi Immigration Law
This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is exploring healthy and sustainable weight loss. Her guest is Amber Sandberg, a certified weight loss coach. Amber is passionate about helping mothers lose weight - for the last time - by tuning into the body’s hunger and fullness without feeling deprived. She is also the host of the Mom Inspired Show podcast, where she creates lasting conversations among moms. In this week’s episode, Amber shares the challenges that prevent women from sustaining weight gain, and what High Wire Women can do to overcome them. You’ll hear Rosanna and Amber talk about: A major factor that influences someone’s ability to sustain weight gain is their mindset, Amber claims. Sometimes, your weight is a symptom of other things that are happening in your life. Women, in general, are prone to eating for comfort - hence the term ‘comfort food’ - because it’s easily available and an enjoyable way to unwind. Cutting certain foods out of your life completely may not necessarily help, but at the same time, there may be foods you should avoid due to the state of your health. Having a balanced diet is one of the best and safest ways to lose weight.  Amber recommends that listeners drink half their body weight in water each day. If this isn’t feasible, then drink 64 ounces. Applying the all-or-nothing mentality to weight loss hinders more than helps - people are so paralyzed by perfection that they would rather do nothing if they can’t achieve ‘plus’ work on the first try. Allowing yourself to do ‘B minus work’ gives you the grace to make mistakes while actually doing what you committed to do. Snacking during meals can sabotage your weight loss.  Resources Rosanna Berardi | LinkedIn Rosanna Berardi | Berardi Immigration Law High Wire Woman Amber Sandberg | LinkedIn Amber Sandberg | Mom Inspired Show
This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is educating listeners about the importance of sufficient and quality sleep. Her guest is Soda Kuczkowski, a certified sleep coach. Soda is the founder of Start With Sleep, an organization that advocates for sleep health and provides resources for health professionals, school systems, and corporate wellness initiatives. In this week’s episode, Soda shares insights about the sleep challenges unique to women and how High Wire Women can push through them. You’ll hear Rosanna and Soda talk about: Women have a higher threshold for sleep deprivation due to the numerous roles they play, Soda says. Though they sleep more than their male counterparts, they are twice as likely to have issues like insomnia and sleep-related tiredness.  Exposure to natural light is important when you wake up in the morning. It’s the start cue to several physiological processes, including the production of serotonin. To improve the quality of your sleep, limit your exposure to artificial light from things like your phone and the TV after the sun sets. To manage your energy levels, you need to be able to understand your body. Soda recommends that listeners wear blue blocker glasses at night when using digital devices. It helps prevent overstimulation. Taking supplements isn’t a bad thing, but if you aren’t hydrating enough then you could be depriving your body of magnesium. Sleep affects all areas of your health, from physical to mental. It can be challenging, but there are many ways you can improve both your quality and quantity of sleep. This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is encouraging listeners to get smart with their finances. Her guest, Caroline Yuki, is an award-winning female entrepreneur; she is also a former chemical engineer who helps women build their money and investment platforms. In this week’s episode, Caroline shares money tips all working women need to know, as well as insight on investment and why women should engage in it.    You'll hear Rosanna and Caroline talk about: You should never let anyone else take control of your finances. Invest confidence in your own decisions, and never leave it up to someone else.  It's important to know and understand the basics of finance.  Caroline talks about creating Cash Flow Queen to help educate other women about finance, and help them build confidence in their decisions. Cash Flow Queen is about building a holistic view of wealth building.  Wealth building is not just about being frugal. It's about making more money, spending less than you earn, and investing smartly. All these aspects have to work together.  Caroline talks about the importance of having multiple streams of income.  The goal of making your money work for you is so that you can lessen your hours of work. As working women, you can't ignore your finances. Finance is confusing and a lot to take in at first, but there are tools to help you and those tools can help make your money work for you.  Resources Rosanna Berardi | LinkedIn Rosanna Berardi | Berardi Immigration Law High Wire Woman Caroline Yuki | LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram Cash Flow Queen
This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is talking about improving your sex life. Her guest, Dr. Lori Lawrenz, is a sex therapist who counsels women and helps them address issues of trauma, grief, shame, and mental health in regard to their sexuality. In this week’s episode, Dr. Lawrenz shares insights on improving your sexual health, increasing connections with your partner, and owning your sexuality.   You'll hear Rosanna and Lori talk about: Sex therapy is a way of engaging people in regard to their sexual health and is different from traditional talk therapy. Desire discrepancy is a frequent issue that comes up among couples. It is when you have desires different from your partner. Many partners feel shame because of this discrepancy. It's also easier for a person to simply cut off sexual interaction with their partner because of this shame.  Sensate focus is a recommended method for couples to engage in mutual non-sexual touch; it builds intimacy between both partners.  Emotionally focused therapy helps couples get down to the why of their reduced sexual desire. "A lot of times it's not about the what of the sexual relationship, it's about the why," Lori says. Talking out your feelings and doing deep introspection with your partner and the therapist can go a long way.  Sex, whether it's with a partner or it's solo, should be something to look forward to and something that's enjoyable. Sex therapy is important for many people, and they welcome the opportunity to talk about and get in touch with their sexuality. It also gives them the opportunity to talk about any past sexual traumas.  It's never too late to seek therapy, and it's never too late to heal from whatever has hurt you in the sexual sphere.  The more you can learn about yourself and your own sexuality, the more you can show up for somebody else. Your sexual health is just as important as your physical health. It's something precious, and something to be nurtured. Take care of it.  Resources Rosanna Berardi | LinkedIn Rosanna Berardi | Berardi Immigration Law High Wire Woman Dr. Lori Lawrenz Hawaii Center for Sexual and Relationship Health
This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is talking about improving your life. Her guest, Lia Garvin, is an author, a TEDX Speaker, and a leadership coach. Lia is also the Senior Team Operations & Inclusion Leader at Google. In this week’s episode, Lia shares insights on how to get out of the cycle of negative thoughts, how to get 'unstuck', and what you need to do to improve your life.   You'll hear Rosanna and Lia talk about: A place women can get stuck is when they're figuring out their next move. "I think a lot of times we feel like, 'Well I've been successful in this one area, and I've invested a lot of time', so it can feel like there's a sunk cost in pursuing another route," Lia says. What Lia suggests to her clients is to look at their passions, their strengths, and what makes them excited to go to work.   Many of your skills are transferable. When you get stuck, you may downplay your potential, but it's quite the opposite. "It's about reframing that story," Lia remarks.  Rosanna asks Lia what compelled her to write Unstuck. It was her way of culminating challenges she and other women were going through, and breaking free of them, she responds.  Feedback is important and needs to be acknowledged. Feedback breeds growth and keeps you from falling into dangerous behavioral traps and patterns.  There is magic in failure. Failure is where you learn. Women often shun failure because of the way society conditioned them, but failure is actually a good thing. "Differentiate between a failure which is something bigger we want to learn from than just a simple mistake," Lia says. Own up to failure, correct it, and it will allow you to self-reflect.  As managers, business owners, and entrepreneurs, you have to build psychological safety for people to share mistakes. You have to make it safe for people to fail, and help one another when they do.  Change your why questions to what questions. This will help you understand why you're feeling stuck and help you address the issue. Feeling stuck often feels like failure, but failure isn't catastrophic. Failure is where you learn and where you self-reflect.  Resources Rosanna Berardi | LinkedIn Rosanna Berardi | Berardi Immigration Law High Wire Woman Lia Garvin | LinkedIn | Instagram  Unstuck
This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is emphasizing taking charge of your health. Her guest, Dr. Melissa Wenrich, is a women's healthcare practitioner based in Nashville, Tennessee. Melissa is a certified chiropractic neurologist, and she has been a diplomat with the American Board of Chiropractic Neurology since 2016. In this week’s episode, Melissa shares insights on the health issues working women encounter, as well as tips on how to improve your health to live a fulfilled life.   You'll hear Rosanna and Melissa talk about: How Melissa started in chiropractic. Patients nowadays want immediate reprieve of their ailments. "We're in this mentality of ‘I don't have time to get to the root cause of this’," Melissa says.  Medical companies fund research on medical issues, and as research increases, treatments for patients improve. Getting to the root cause means healing you, Melissa remarks. She advocated looking at the complete picture of patients’ medical history and taking a layered approach to better understand the type of care they need.  Gut health helps combat hormonal issues, so you need to have the proper nutrients to make the hormones in your body. Your hormones are your body signals.  Regulating your blood sugar and improving your gut health is vital.  When all your body systems are functioning in harmony, good health is the result, and you have a higher chance of achieving your goals.  Melissa tells Rosanna where High Wire Women can access her services.  Taking care of your body is taking care of your life. Treat yourself with the same care and love you do your tasks and you will be able to accomplish them better, and you will be healthier for it too.  Resources Rosanna Berardi | LinkedIn Rosanna Berardi | Berardi Immigration Law High Wire Woman Dr. Melissa Wenrich | Instagram   Nashville Brain and Body
This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is talking about Disney's impact on her family’s lives. Disney World has been home to many experiences for many people. It is a place of magic, wonder and excitement. Rosanna shares her experiences with the franchise and theme park through a brief anecdote, and remarks on how much has changed in her life between then and now.  You'll hear Rosanna talk about: The various times she, her husband, and her son traveled to Disney World, and his favorite rides. Rosanna remarks on going back to Disney World two years after COVID and how emotional it was for her. "I looked over at my son, and it became apparent to me that he was no longer a baby," she comments.  The importance of traveling. If you and your family have the opportunity to travel, take advantage of it. "[Travel] puts us in a different space both physically and mentally," Rosanna expresses.  As working women, it is important to go out and do activities with your family. They don't have to be expensive activities. They can be as simple as going for a walk in the park.  Plan a trip, do something fun. Even though you have to work, and make money, plan something with your family. The memories of those experiences are so important and they will stay with you forever.  Resources Rosanna Berardi | LinkedIn Rosanna Berardi | Berardi Immigration Law High Wire Woman
This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is talking about finances. Her guest, Eunicia Peret, is a financial mentor, educator, and consultant. She is the CEO of The Empowered Financial Planner and has over 15 years of experience in financial services. Eunicia shares tips on how to become financially literate, investments, and making your money work for you.  You'll hear Rosanna and Eunicia talk about: In business, having financial experts tell you about the markets and your own finances, is not the way to go. You need to understand them for yourself. Eunicia advises having those experts sit with you and help you understand your finances, so you can make better decisions.  Automate your investments, but don't forget about them. What you focus on, especially when it comes to money, is what's going to end up growing in the future.  A 401k plan must be designed to make sense for the client. Eunicia encourages clients to understand that they have other options. "Money in a situation where it's not truly optimized is not going to be the same as money put in a situation where it can truly grow to the benefit of the client," she says.  You can’t control the financial industry. However, you do have control over the ability to ask questions and that is something, Eunicia says, that individuals often don't do.  A lot of failed financial planning is due to a lack of education, and a lack of desire to gain that education. Eunicia talks about how and where High Wire Women can access her services. Finance is scary but it's not impossible. Talking with experts, doing your research, and asking questions all can help to ease the anxiety and uncertainty about managing your money, and making it work for you.  Resources Rosanna Berardi | LinkedIn Rosanna Berardi | Berardi Immigration Law High Wire Woman Eunicia Peret | LinkedIn | Twitter | Facebook  The Empowered Financial Planner
This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is talking about the reality of parenthood. Her guest, Christy Keating, is a parenting coach, a child sexual abuse prevention expert, and the founder of the Heartful Parent. Over the years she has taught many parents and professionals how to keep children safe, and how to identify problematic behaviors both in-person and online. In this episode, Christy shares insights on becoming balanced parents, especially in the midst of a crisis like a pandemic.  You'll hear Rosanna and Christy talk about: Parenting is not an easy job, and it doesn't come with a manual. Parenting for teenagers especially in the midst of a pandemic, as well as with rising rates of suicidal thoughts, depression and anxiety, is even harder. You have to be willing to show up for them every day, and reinforce that you care and that you're there for them no matter what.  The only person whose feelings, thoughts and actions you can control is yourself. Accepting that as a parent is so important.  Give your kids expectations and responsibilities instead of threats. They will respond better.  Have family meetings that are collaborative instead of lectures. Your kids are more likely to listen if they feel heard.  It's important to set boundaries with your children. However, boundaries won't have any effect if there is no connection, respect or listening between you and your children. Christy talks about the importance of understanding that all social media is public and permanent. She also cautions against giving children smartphones before they're mentally and socially developed for them.  Parenting is a challenge, but it's a challenge that can be undertaken with the right amount of patience, care and love. Achieving the right balance will help you in the long run and build a stronger family foundation for you and your children.  Resources Rosanna Berardi | LinkedIn Rosanna Berardi | Berardi Immigration Law High Wire Woman Christy Keating | LinkedIn | Instagram  The Heartful Parent
This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is talking about fair play. Her guest, Elise Buie, is an author and a practicing family lawyer. In this episode, Elise shares insights on what people can do to prevent divorce and strengthen their marriage, as well as how to reclaim your time and prioritize your mental health.  You'll hear Rosanna and Elise talk about: The three main concepts from the book Fair Play: conceptualizing, planning, and executing.  Resentment and desire cannot coexist in your heart, whilst you're in a relationship. "While one is holding resentment, one really cannot feel desire for their spouse," Elise says. So many women are living in inequitable relationships to the point where there's no emotional connection with their spouse anymore. Rosanna comments on how resentment can turn to numbness, and that it makes for many toxic situations, eventually leading to divorce.  If your partner does not respect you enough to listen to any suggestions on how you can improve your relationship, ask yourself if it's a relationship worth keeping. Find your unicorn space. Don't get lost in your role as a parent, a partner, or in your profession.  Take time for yourself and don't feel apologetic about it.  Don't get lost in your role as a parent, a partner, or in your profession. You'll hear Rosanna and Christine talk about: Rosanna's and Christine's previous diagnoses of breast cancer, as well as the importance of women getting both mammograms and ultrasounds done often.  Prioritize your health and don't overwork yourself. When Christine found out about her diagnosis, she stepped back from the grueling day-to-day and started taking it slow. This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is talking about taking control. Her guest, Heather Steinker, is an efficiency expert, and the founder of Chaos 'N Cookies. Heather shares her menu for survival, tips on how High Wire Women can take control of the chaos around them, and how to take charge of their time. You'll hear Rosanna and Heather talk about: Heather created Chaos 'N Cookies to help working moms find time for themselves to do the things they wanted to do. The Chaos Control System is the family playbook. It has all the detailed information about its owner and their family so that if one member of the household is unavailable, the running of the household doesn't fall by the wayside.  The Chaos Control System has helped Heather's clients become more organized and aware of the tasks that they need to do.  You need to be prepared for anything. Writing down the operations of your household, such as finances or how to repair items, gives you the information you need to leave bad situations such as abusive households. You can be self-sufficient with the knowledge you possess.  You don't have to be organized all at once, you can do little things one at a time during the week. By doing this, you are buying yourself peace of mind.  When you start off reactive as opposed to proactive, it sets the tone for the rest of your day. Be proactive.  Be proactive instead of reactive. If you can get all of the pieces you can control in place, it makes for a much better life. This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is talking about image. Many women think they need to look perfect all the time; they compare themselves to others, and build up insecurities. Rosanna shares some brief advice on how to overcome this tendency. You'll hear Rosanna talk about: Everyone you think looks perfect wishes they could change something about themselves.  If you can't love all of yourself yet, love part of yourself first.  You are perfect, even if you don't believe you are. Outsiders are admiring you. Give yourself grace. You are doing the best you can, and even though you may think that you aren't, someone on the outside is admiring you.  Resources Rosanna Berardi | LinkedIn Rosanna Berardi | Berardi Immigration Law High Wire Woman
This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is talking about getting things done. Her guest, Agnese Rudzate, is a productivity specialist and time management expert based in Switzerland. Agnese shares tips on how High Wire Women can maximize productivity in order to get the most important stuff  done. You'll hear Rosanna and Agnese talk about: Good time management comes from your mindset and inner world.  Distraction comes from a need to avoid discomfort. Analyzing yourself, and digging deeper to understand what discomfort or pain is under a particular task, can help you understand how to overcome it and no longer seek distraction. If an important task is not in your calendar or planner, you won't find time to do it because you don't respect the task enough to find time to do it.  Putting too many tasks on your to-do lists can overwhelm you. Remove some of the tasks and put them in your schedule so you can find time to do them, and ease some of your stress.  Plan ahead, so you can be focused on your tasks the next day. Limit your social media intake and spend that time doing things that are actually important.  You are in control of time. Time is not in control of you. Take charge, organize, strategize. This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is talking about being comfortable in your own skin. Her guest, Katie Crenshaw, is a blogger and the author of Her Body Can. Katie talks about body positivity and learning to embrace your authentic self, and rejecting the beauty standards society has set out for you. You'll hear Rosanna and Katie talk about: How Katie started her blog.  Seeing the variety of 'mom' bodies be portrayed authentically through social media has had a positive impact on the mental health of new moms. It has allowed them to know that nothing is wrong with the way they look, and that there is nothing to feel ashamed of.  The importance of representation of different body types in children's media.  The positive feedback that Katie's book received from moms and the mass media.  Your body can do anything. This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is talking about the importance of telling stories. Her guest, Parul Agrawal, is an expert at this. Parul is a Business Growth Strategist, engineer, TEDx Speaker, and bestselling author. She joins Rosanna to help High Wire Women tell the stories of their lives, and take up space without feeling guilty for doing so. You'll hear Rosanna and Parul talk about: What made Parul diverge from her career in engineering. It's ingrained in women to be humble when talking about their achievements. This is due to societal expectations and media. Women have power and need to start embracing that power and empowering each other.  Just by telling your story, you can impact someone else in ways you won't even realize. Your story can be the motivation and empowerment someone else needs.  Parul talks about the mind map and the book map when writing your story. Start with the central idea then 'branch out' from there with subsections and sub-stories. Another way to get your story out is to record it, then transcribe it.  Writing is powerful, therapeutic, and can change your life. Your story is inspirational even if you never share it with anyone.  Parul talks about her book, The Growth Hacking Book.  Everyone has a story burning inside of them. This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is getting happy. Her guest, Kim Strobel, is a happiness expert and coach. Kim has spent her career helping business leaders prioritize their health and well-being so they can reach new heights in both their personal and professional lives. Kim joins Rosanna to share her insight on happiness and what it means, and what High Wire Women can do to ensure their own well-being.  You'll hear Rosanna and Kim talk about: Women tend to end up in 'the gutter' because they want to function in a space of high energy, but also feel guilty about doing so because of their other responsibilities.  Pass off the things in your life that allow you the time to do the things you actually want to do.  Break the cycle of trying to fit into the box society expects you to fit into.  Take time every day to do something that makes you happy.  Everyone has a set happiness baseline and level, and they are different for everyone. Happiness levels can change by percentages due to circumstances but eventually revert to the baseline. "Every human being has the ability to increase their happiness levels by up to 40% and that has to do with your actions, your thoughts, and your behaviors," Kim says.
