Description

Most people don’t peel the curtain back to share the messy progress, we only see the sexy, shiny outcome and frankly, I’m over it.   It’s not real life.

Hi! I’m Adrienne Smith, the queen and the host of Messy Progress.  I am a wellness coach, world record holder, mother, entrepreneur, business owner, wife, friend, sister, Messy Progress podcast host, trip sitter and a whole lot of other labels on any given day depending on who you are asking, but most of all, I’m human.  Every Thursday I’ll shine a light on what lives behind the highlight reel and dive into how making a mess leads to success.

I constantly find myself asking questions like, “Is this really what life is suppose to look like?”  “Is this it?”  “Is there more?” I live for reigniting your passion and supporting you in getting unstuck. If you crave inspiration and need a swift kick in the pants - I’ve got you.  We’re going to go from indecisive to determined, from confined to full on liberated through shockingly relatable conversations, eye-opening interviews and stories.

You will get tips and tools necessary to take the next right steps towards living into your unwavering confidence in the boardroom, the bedroom and in all of your relationships - especially the one with yourself.

It’s time to get messy, uncage ourselves and set ourselves free. Welcome to messy progress.

Because we’ve identified with who we have been for so long, we don’t always let ourselves shift and change with nature - this can cause us to feel more stuck than we actually are, unable to accept change and sometimes reliving old trauma. In this episode with somatic therapist, Teagan Rose, we talk about it all. My rowing team and I had the pleasure of working with Teagan to enhance our non-verbal communication and I’ve also brought her into to help my teaching team and I get more connected in body and spirit. She is an incredible healer and artist.--Links & resources:Follow along for more information about me and the podcast on Instagram: @theadriennesmithCheck out the Yoga Studio: Power of Your OmLearn more about my coaching programs and offerings: Aligned Living NowThis Podcast is brought to you by Upstarter Podcast Network
In this episode we get some sage advice from entrepreneur, life-long open water swimmer and coach, Gerry Rodrigues.  Gerry grew up in the country of Trinidad where work ethic trumped sunbathing on the beach.  That ethos landed him at the start line of open water swim races at the young age of 12, where he completed in a 3-mile open water swim (fast as hell), and swam 10,000 meters in two hours that year. And later topped it off by graduating with a Business Degree from Pepperdine. Gerry is a legend in the sport of swimming and triathlon, not only in Southern California where he birthed the famous Tower 26 open water swim and triathlon training program, but also globally with customers in 31 countries, and a 100+ episode podcast surpassing two million downloads.  He co-founded WOWSA (World Open Water Swimming Association), has both owned and published several swimming magazines, is the author of the book “Triathlon Swimming” and has received the well-deserved honor of: U.S. Masters Swimming coach-of-the-year. Gerry and his wife, Elizabeth, own the Santa Barbara Triathlon & Beach festival.  Grandpa Gerry, as my daughter calls him, is also a dad to two amazing young adults, is a mentor to many athletes and coaches, including my husband and has become a close friend of our family.  In this episode you will learn the magic of:Determining your value in the marketplaceEstablishing your worth as a business ownerFacing your fears in open waterCreating a relationship with your staffAvoiding turnover and attrition in any businessSetting up group workouts so everyone winsCreating a community through consistencyWebsite: https://www.tower26.com Podcast: https://www.tower26.com/podcasts/Book: Triathlon Swimming--Links & resources:Follow along for more information about me and the podcast on Instagram: @theadriennesmithCheck out the Yoga Studio: Power of Your OmLearn more about my coaching programs and offerings: Aligned Living NowThis Podcast is brought to you by Upstarter Podcast Network
Being on a team is a powerful experience that creates a connection that transcends our understanding.  In this episode with my rowing teammate, Brooke Downes, we share about our experience on a team together, our biggest fears, how we learned to work together, how we listened to each other in big and small ways and how that listening created trust so that when and if our life was going to be on the line at some point, we had each other’s backs.About Brooke Downes: Brooke a 26 year old New Jersey native who goes wherever rowing takes her, whether that’s across the country or across an ocean. She’s an Olympic hopeful, and coastal rower, who is fueled by Dunkin iced coffee and Taylor Swift. Brooke is a full time athlete but when she’s not training she’s working with clients all over the country to develop key leadership skills with Latitude35. Brooke’s curious and adventurous lifestyle has taken her to great heights and her goal is to continue to lead a life fueled by what makes her energized and happy even if it’s unconventional.  You can find Brooke on Instagram @_brookedownes--Links & resources:Follow along for more information about me and the podcast on Instagram: @theadriennesmithCheck out the Yoga Studio: Power of Your OmLearn more about my coaching programs and offerings: Aligned Living NowThis Podcast is brought to you by Upstarter Podcast Network
Loosen your pants cause you are going to need some extra space to laugh as we jump right into one of the most common questions people ask us from this row…“where did you go to the bathroom” and in this conversation we get straight into what it was like to go to the bathroom in a bucket for a month with 3 of your closest friends. All three of us now World Record holders, were amateur ocean rowers when we said yes to this.  We recognize that this adventure was possible because someone, somewhere taught us something we didn’t know - from surviving at sea, navigating a passage plan, turning a big boat to how to train to row across an ocean.  If there was anything you take away from this episode is that the preparation of this adventure took a lot of individual grit but it was a team mission.  You will learn our tactics for: Believing you are enough How to practice sharing and expressing your needsHow to build confidence by relaxingHow to create “activation energy” to get your clothes on for workouts And so much more! -- Links & resources:Follow along for more information about me and the podcast on Instagram: @theadriennesmithCheck out the Yoga Studio: Power of Your OmLearn more about my coaching programs and offerings: Aligned Living NowThis Podcast is brought to you by Upstarter Podcast Network
This is the first of three conversations that I have with my World Record Rowing Team. In this episode with Sophia Denison Johnston we unpack a lot of what made our team successful. Sophia shares the truth about uncovering trauma both physically and emotionally that surfaced as a result of our adventure and how taking on challenges can be uncomfortable but it doesn’t have to be horrible.  In this episode you will learn how: Honesty and transparency creates trust. To make things fun and lighthearted even when they are hard.Distraction can be a powerful tool to move through challenges and while you think you can outsmart your body, it will inevitably tell you what it needs. Celebrating the differences in our operating system creates freedom for all of us.Sophia's Instagram: @sophiasadjLinks & resources:Follow along for more information about me and the podcast on Instagram: @theadriennesmithCheck out the Yoga Studio: Power of Your OmLearn more about my coaching programs and offerings: Aligned Living NowThis Podcast is brought to you by Upstarter Podcast Network
What If You Play More?

What If You Play More?

2023-07-2710:49

We don’t get to a point of determining how much play is too much or how much work is too much by listening to anyone else’s advice on life - because we’re not living the same lives. I got there by experiencing decades of extreme productivity and burnout and then swinging the pendulum to significantly more play and then reflecting on that. What about you? In this episode I share what I think messy progress is, how to tap into it as an experiment and give you a few tips on how to determine if you need to swing the pendulum in the direction of more play right now.Links & resources:Follow along for more information about me and the podcast on Instagram: @theadriennesmithCheck out the Yoga Studio: Power of Your OmLearn more about my coaching programs and offerings: Aligned Living NowThis Podcast is brought to you by Upstarter Podcast Network

Meditation can seem scary... but trust me, it's not.  It does take some getting used to, especially if you live in the world of GO-GO-GO, DO-DO-DO!   Give this 5 minutes a try.  Then come back tomorrow, and try the next one.
A few moments to ourselves is often all we get unless we carve out time for it intentionally... In this episode I share a story about how figuring out what we need usually comes in moments of aggravation.   What do you need?  What are you passionate about?  Carve out the time to sort it out and share it.
It’s time we don’t just put up a support beam for our body and hope for the best.  Hope is not a strategy.   But honesty is. And it’s the first step of rebuilding.  We have to wake up enough to see where we are right now.  This takes a whole lot of courage.  Take the first step with me in this episode and be where you are.  Let's keep waking up together!
