CHEERS SWEETIE DARLINGS because We’re Having an Episode has gone international! UK-based James of the Instagram account @nocontextabfab joins fellow Absolutely Fabulous lovers Ellie & guest co-host Blake Flayton to talk about Series 2, Episode 5, “Poor!” They discuss the show that really has it all: excellent writing, incredible satire, outrageous fashion, hilarious characters, recurring bits, plenty of cigarettes, and LULU. They also discuss Ellie and Blake’s overuse of the word “iconic,” James’ role as The UK’s Ambassador for TV Comedy, and how Greta Thunberg definitely would wear LaCroix. Worry not, PLENTY of lines are repeated verbatim, too.Dedicated to: The “Absolutely Fabulous Quotes” Facebook group, James’ Northern Irish friends, and Diane AtkinsonFollow @nocontextabfab on Instagram!Follow us!@werehavinganepisode on Instagramtwitter.com/werehavinganepfacebook.com/werehavinganepisode
This week, Blake Flayton disrespects the theme of the podcast both by not rewatching the episode before recording and by bringing an episode that isn’t his favorite. And yet… he was able to do a perfect, verbatim act out of a scene from the episode that “has the most to talk about,” the GOT Pilot! Blake joins Ellie and guest host Heather Schnakenberg (from first GOT episode) to discuss the intricacies of the word “bastard,” a conspiracy theory behind the Stark’s religion, and the book series 13 year-old Blake wrote that was going to be better than GOT.Episode dedicated to Maddy Felder, The Smart Merchants of Dubrovnik, and Catherine Tate.Thank you to this episode’s sponsor, jimo, the app that re-envisions the recommendation. Gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss…  Matt Shaw! (Just kidding) (but this week’s esteemed guest is Matt Shaw). Matt brings on Rick and Morty’s “Interdimensional Cable 2,” the writers’ least favorite episode. But Matt’s #NotLikeAllGuys. Guest host Reagan Anthony joins and accidentally EPICALLY spoils a plot point in The West Wing for Ellie. We all discuss talk our most quotable shows, Parks and Rec and improv are brought up (naturally), and Ellie finds a brilliant way to combine our podcast concepts: We’re Having Bad Advice from TV.Episode dedicated to Dan Harmon, Ellie & Reagan’s irrelevant Emmy takes, and 3rd amendment humor. Thank you to our sponsor, jimo, the app that re-envisions the recommendation. Recently, Ellie finished a wee Hulu series called This Way Up and was so deeply obsessed with it, she just HAD to talk about it. So she posted on her Insta story asking if any of her followers had seen the show and wanted to come on the podcast to talk about it. One incredible woman swiped up and said “Yes.” That woman? The incomparable Kathy Hoffman, Ellie’s mom. And voila. Kathy humors Ellie by agreeing to do this, resulting in: Ellie defying the rules and choosing the episode, revealing that she forced her therapist to watch it over FaceTime, crying, speculating, and more. This episode is dedicated to Aisling Bea, Sharon Horgan, and anyone out there with a “Fleabag-sized hole” in their heart. WATCH THIS SHOW.
Hey Adele (Wiebke, not the singer — common mistake), can I interview you for my spacecast? This week, a lonesome Ellie is joined by the wonderful Adele Wiebke to talk about Midnight Gospel, a very trippy, pretty hippy, animated podcast on Netflix. We discuss love & loss, a meditation tip that may actually help someone who hypothetically sucks at meditation (cough, cough, Ellie), and jumping mediums.
