Join Sydney and Tatum as they sit down with community advocate and researcher, Jazmyne McNeese, and DJ, a member of the OC-based mutual aid organization, The People's Coalition, to discuss the importance of grassroots organizations within the Black community. 

(TW: Sexual Assault and Childhood Trauma) What is Black love? What is it determined by? What are some of the stigmas that plague Black couples? For this episode, we wanted to explore the intricacies of romantic relationships within the Black community, what Black love means today, the complexities within our own experiences with love, and how to navigate healthy relationships during this difficult time.

In this episode of Black Fam 2.5, Sydney and Tatum discuss the importance of voting, the stakes of this election and audience-requested propositions with their expert panel, including: Sylvia Albert, the Director of Voting and Elections for Common Cause, Susan Smith, the chief executive officer for the Center for Public Integrity and a panel of Black Fam listeners and 2020 voters!

The question of whether African-Americans have been able to be represented accurately throughout history has been one that has been pondered for centuries. For this episode, Black Fam 2.5 will honor of the passing of the great Chadwick Boseman and examine the entertainment and media industries along with the importance of accurate POC representation.

In this episode, Sydney and Tatum discuss the history behind and implications of the recent rise of AAPI hate as well as the historical ties between Asian and Black power movements. To do so accurately and respectfully, Sydney and Tatum discuss these topics with members of the AAPI community; Edward T. Chang , a Professor of Ethnic Studies and founding Director of the Young Oak Kim Center for Korean American Studies at the University of California at Riverside, Dhanika Pineda, a Filipina-American second year Literary Journalism Major and International Studies Minor at the University of California, Irvine, and Yến Lê Espiritu, a distinguished Professor of Ethnic Studies and an award-winning author who has published extensively on Asian American panethnicity, gender and migration, and U.S. colonialism and wars in Asia.
