Kezia M Williams, social media influencer and CEO My Black Receipt of was experience an intruder who tried to break into her home.Though the suspect never made it inside he was seen on camera  with gloves, zips ties, and allegedly armed. Kezia's social media following help her identify the intruder however Maryland Police said he never committed a crime and this matter must be settled in court.  In 2020 nearly 40% of missing persons were people of color however African Americans only take up 13 % of the population. DaBaby recently went viral after reverse hustling some kids who tried to sell him candy. After the kids tried to sell him their entire box of candy for $200, DaBaby opted to buy only $4.00 worth of candy. The internet is torn between did DaBaby teach the kids a  valuable lesson or was he wrong for not spending more money with them?In addition to Dababy, I discuss reasons to support black owned businesses like closing the racial wealth gap and strengthen local black communities with new resources and services. A 2017 study by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition found that banks were 2x times as likely to provide business loans to white applicants than black applicants and 3x times likely to have follow up meetings with white applicants than black applicants.
Sha'Carri Richardson, quickly became a household name after winning the 100-meter dash at the 2021 Olympic trials with a time of 10.86 seconds. After gaining publicity for her record setting run at the Olympic trials, she tested positive for marijuana. May is Mental Health Awareness month! On this episode I mention some alarming statistics of how black americans struggle with mental health issues. In 2018, 58% of Black American young adults 18-25 and 50% of adults 26-49 with serious mental illness did not recieve treatment. These statistics are closely associated with the common stigma among black culture that mental health is taboo. We wear a mask because we have to be strong even when we don't want to. It is important to find a healthy space to let it all out. It is ok to cry but it is bad to hold it in.  The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announces that athletes will be banned from wearing Black Lives Matter apparel at games and during ceremonies. This comes after the IOC conducted a poll among Olympic athetes where majority of the poll are in favor of strict rules against demonstrations.  As the pandemic begins to wind down across the U.S. a new problem affecting black americans.  According to the Center for Disease and Control, 4 in 10 African Americans are currently are diagnosed with obesity and nearly 48% of Black Americans are clinically obese compared to 32.6%  of White Americans.
